I've owned a CZ-75 since 1985. It has a high polished blue finish and was made in 1981. Purchased new in the box in Norwich, England, I brought it back to the States when I returned in 1987. They are one of the finest handguns made IMO.

After several months of going back and forth between the standard CZ 75B and the Omega convertible version, I took the plunge yesterday and ordered the Omega version. I probably watched more reviews on these firearms than any other I have been considering, but your review helped put me over the top. I am really looking forward to getting it out on the range and putting a bunch of ammo through it. Thanks, HR!

I always do things bass ackward. I buy the gun, then look for a video to tell me about it. I'm glad I found this one. I had wondered what that little plastic bag with the extra "safety" was for. Turns out I got a "convertable" like the one you've got. I just got it yesterday, so I haven't gotten it to the range yet, but I hope to this weekend. Oh, by the way. Good review as always. @@hrfunk I forgot all about getting back to you. I have fired the CZ-75-B mentioned above, and the experience was eye opening. I consider myself to be somewhere between a "poor" to "downright lousy" pistol shot. A "good day at the range" is any day the staff smiles and says "Come back again soon." But this gun made me look like I knew what I was doing. I had to check to make sure someone else wasn't shooting my target by mistake. I was so impressed I went back and bought a CZ-75-D, PCR compact to use as a carry gun. Keep up the good work.

Great review! I was looking at buying my first handgun, and the store brought out three "beginner" pistols - one was a Glock (of course), the C75, and the third was a Barretta - I went with the C75 over the Barretta because the CZ just felt more comfortable - the recoil was just as you said - foiirst three shots out of it were right on target, so I didn't even have to adjust the sights. I see many years of enjoyment ahead!

Saw the video from the CZ forum. Great review so I'm subscribed. I'm 64 and as much as I enjoy my polymer pistols, the various CZ75 models are fast replacing them. I don't carry so all my pistols are "range" guns. You're right about the rubber grips. Some of my CZ's have come with plastic or aluminum grips and I've put the CZ rubber ones on all of them.
@hrfunk

Bought a used one. 100% stock. First shot, bullseye. Second shot, touched the first. Third shot, touched the other two. Woah! Never happened to me, with any gun I fired, or any other after. CZ factory and town have a long history way before the 20th century and recognized a good thing in the Browning designs. Always been among the frontrunners and learned good stuff along the way, like the Makarov safety design that the Walther PPK missed.

Probably my favorite handgun of all time. I put a cajun kit in a p-01 omega and it turned out pretty good. I do still prefer the older triggers tho. The thin profile of the omega trigger kinda bothers my finger while firing for some reason. But for a defensive firearm it's still very nice.

Love the CZ 75 variants. Check out the P-01 Omega. Basically a 75 with a shorter barrel, aluminum frame with a rail, and convertible decocker/safety. They also make it in the Urban Gray finish with 2 16 round magazines and a threaded barrel. The only drawback I find with that one is that the barrel thread protector tends to work its way off after several shots. Also, removal of the slide stop for disassembly can be more difficult than desired. An easier way to remove it is to line up the witness marks, then smack the back side of the slide stop with the floor plate of a magazine. Hopefully that helps you.

I've owned some pistols that cost twice as much as my 75 (SP-01 Tac) and yet I keep coming back to the CZ as the gun that instinctively feels the best in my hand and that I shoot the best. I also own a P-07 (Cajunized) and between the two of them, I feel like I spent a lot of unnecessary money on other pistols over the years. If you want to do just a few simple things to greatly improve what is already a great pistol, I replaced the stock hammer spring and firing pin spring with a #15 hammer spring and reduced power firing pin spring from Cajun Gun Works, which brought the DA trigger pull down to a nice and consistent 8lbs and shaved about a 1/2 lb off the SA pull. LOK grips also makes an excellent G-10 grip for the 75 series that perfectly imitates the palm swell of the stock grip, but with enhanced grippiness and a variety of textures to choose from.

The late Col Cooper was a great American and favored CZ75 at the time because it was condition 1 / cocked & locked capable. The double action feature did not impress him so much as he considered that a solution in search of a question. But everything else about the pistol was praiseworthy as you pointed out. The only caveats are about the cross roll pin retaining the firing pin (3/21mm) and light side recoil springs requiring attention to replacement to prevent failure and frame battering. Not even Glock is perfect but CZ is close. Used beaters command good prices and new stock always seems scarce. You are fortunate to have one of the best versions.

Yes, we are allowed to own firearms, but on some conditions. There are few ways to do get permission. It is still a little complicated, time consuming and not so cheep. But of course possible to get. Problems start if You want to get permission to have firearm and to be able to carry it with You. As far as know, this is very very complicated to achieve. But a lot of my friends migrated from air rifles, pistols to nitro powered. I will stick to air rifle and pistol, in my little city, we do not have shooting range where I could practise. With air powered and limited energy to 17J I can practise even in my backyard. We also organize a lot of field target competitions outside of cities. It is really nice formula. We are shooting with scopes to targets witch are between 7.5 and 41m. So targets can placed on whole ballistic curve for 16J of enegry. Shooter have to estimate target distance without using scope AO, have to estimate wind factor and have only one shoot for one target, mostly we put 30 targets on track. I think were will be some nice video from those championships. I will send You a link.

Hey hrfunk, just found your channel with this review today, well done! I have several CZ's and am looking at a CZ75 B Omega now. I have to say nice job with the video, I especially appreciate the indoor part, have an appreciation for good lighting and how important that is after working as an A/V technician for 20+ years! I also appreciate your smooth delivery, and the fact that you went a bit into the history of these 75's. My local gun store is not that familiar with CZ's, am sending your video to him to check out... CZECH out? Just subscribed, will have to check out your other videos as well! Again, good job, thanks for doing it!

Im looking for a full sized CZ and this just might be the one I get next. Still deciding between this or a IWI Jericho Steel frame, which bases its design off the CZ 75. People often complain about the weight of steel frame handguns. I really don't see why. I conceal carry a CZ 75 P-01 which weighs 28.1 OZ's and a CZ 75 D Compact which weighs 27.5 OZ's. But not simultaneously of course. I've never once had a problem with any gun being heavy. I really dont even notice them much. I can even run with it on inclined slopes without issue. I am baffled why anyone would complain about these guns being too heavy as if they've never lifted a gallon of milk in their life. Now as for hiding any printing with these handguns, I usually wear a button up. That's been my style since before carrying and it just so happens to be the perfect wardrobe. Just find the position on your body you feel most comfortable with. To the uploader, thank you so much for your review. You have a really nice character and the way you explain things is extremely easy to understand. God bless you.

If you didn't know, the first DA/SA pistol was an Austrian pistol called "Little Tom". The FB Vis Radom pistol already got their decocker decades before SIG got theirs. The SIG P220 pistol already got that trigger guard contour before Beretta got theirs. If you're talking about copying features of other guns and the originality of a design, you should take a look at the original CZ 75 to see how original it is.

Interesting presentation. Wonder if Omega design trigger which is less expensive to manufacture affects reliability or durability. Seems natural to ask if user should see any impact on reliability or durability. My guess w CZ is that there is no impact. Further, would police be willing to use a CZ 75B Omega as a duty pistol? Very clear presentation 👌

I haven’t had any issues with reliability or durability with either of my omega equipped CZ’s (75B/P01). I I don’t recall ever seeing a police officer in the US carrying a CZ, but certainly there are officers in other countries who do. A couple of weeks ago when I was in Mexico, I saw an officer in an Airport carrying a P09.

I bought one exactly like that a year or so ago mine has the lighter grey G10 Snake Scale grips. I hate to admit it but I prefer it with the safety because I have stubby fingers and the trigger is a reach and is slippery (no grooves like a 1911) so I prefer cocked and locked. The sights don't glow very long.

Aw jeez. I've been trying to talk myself out of one of these for months now. You are right, if there is a more ergonomic pistol around - I dunno what it is!What is the potential on this gun for formal target work HR?
@hrfunk
@hrfunk 7 жыл бұрын
John Smith Well, I’m not sure, because i don’t know precisely what you mean by “formal competition’. I doubt it will replace a tuned 1911 in bullseye match use any time soon. Likewise, I don’t see it supplanting the various race guns used fro IPSC. On the other hand, you could do a whole lot worse in IDPA. Same thing goes for the stock categories of the various bowling pin/steel matches. All in all, if you match it to the right game, it should do very well.

There are no front serrations, but I don't notice any difficulty when it comes to cycling the slide. There is no creep, so to speak, in the double action and only a trace in the single action. The trigger overall is quite good.

Good choice! I have a 75B that doesn't have the decocker, which has to be done manually. It's got a half cock that works well for carry, and really helps with that first da pull. I wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference vs. the hammer all the way down, but you can sure feel it in the pull. Does the new trigger system also have a half cock?
@82luft49
@82luft49 7 жыл бұрын
ZBread, it's iffy carrying the gun half cocked. I wouldn't recommend it. Why not carry fully cocked and locked? When the manual safety is engaged, the gun goes right into Single Action and stays in SA with each subsequent shot.
@82luft49
@82luft49 7 жыл бұрын
ZBeard, Correction. I must have been thinking of my 1911's ability to carry cocked and locked. As you know, the Omaga Convertible has a decocker and not a safety. But CZ does provide a thumb safety in the box just in case you want to switch back which I intend on doing with mine.
@dpbeardslee
@dpbeardslee 7 жыл бұрын
What's iffy about it? That's what the half cock is for. When the hammer is all the way down it rests against the back of the firing pin - which isn't really an issue with the firing pin block on the "B" models - but on the originals there was a possibility of a discharge if dropped on the hammer. Half cock gets the hammer off the firing pin so that can't happen. It also shortens the pull a little bit - just enough to be noticeable. Personally I don't care for thumb safeties and would rather deal with the long pull on the first shot. My main carry is a Glock, and on the rare occasions that I carry the CZ, if the need arose, I may or may not remember to thumb the safety. I'd just rather not have to remember it. I'm getting to that age where, before I can learn something new, I have to forget something first. :-)
@dpbeardslee
@dpbeardslee 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, a 1911 is a different story. My CZ is a 75B, which didn't have the decocker option. I kind of like that option, though. What I REALLY liked was what the trigger gauge had to say - 3.5 lbs SA out-of-the-box is pretty sweet. And 10 pounds on a DA pull isn't bad either. Mine has the old trigger, and it was TERRIBLE when I first got it. I had to change hammer and recoil springs, as well as adjusting the angle on the sear before it was acceptable. I like the straighter trigger too. Looks like a pretty sweet rig.

I’ve handled them but never shot one. In general I think they lack some of the ergos and pointing characteristics of the 75 and it’s descendants. The triggers also don’t feel quite as good (at least on the ones I’ve handled). Beyond that, I’ll have to shoot one before I can comment further.

@Werner Horn Hi Werner, thanks for watching! The CZ75 is a full-size handgun and it weighs more than 1 Kg. If you are going to carry it concealed it's going to be kind of big and heavy. It is not impossible to carry, but it is not as easy as some smaller/lighter options. If you are not worried about concealing it, and you are planning to carry it in a good holster on a sturdy belt, it should not present any real problem for you. The recoil of the .40 S&W is not really all that bad in my opinion. Especially in a pistol that weighs as much as the CZ75. That said, the 9mm does recoil less than the .40 and it's usually more plentiful. In the end, it will come down to your own personal preferences. Best of luck!
@hrfunk

@Werner Horn That being the case, you might want to look at a CZ75 P01 a PCR. They are smaller, lighter, and easier to carry.

@Werner Horn The Hi Power is one of my favorite pistols. It's a classic design that still holds up today. I don't think you will have any problems with reliability, but you will have to practice to acquaint yourself with the safety. Since the Hi Power is a single-action semiautomatic pistol, you have to disengage the safety as you draw the pistol (assuming you carry it cocked and locked). Learning to do that properly takes a lot of practice.

Give us an update video on your 75B after about 1000 rounds, as CZ triggers are known to smooth out after initial use. I have the first run on the 75B Omega system and it's been very accurate and reliable. I just added a P-09 to my collection, which is suppressor ready in Urban Grey with raised night sights. They're the brightest night sights I've ever seen. Awesome looking and very accurate pistol.
