Never played Canlander but I always watch these videos. Excellent presentation and tantalizing gameplay might just get me to proxy a few decks to play with friends.
@Raymaniak2 ай бұрын
As someone else who loves those and has never played Canlander, I now wonder if there's more people watching them than actual Canlander players, or maybe even people who ever played it. They get tens of thousands of views, and while some of those are definitely repeats, it sounds like it could be close for a niche format that uses Power.
@thomasgaillard67132 ай бұрын
I really encourage you to try canlander! We play it with my friends, and that's a really funny hard to master format
@flint97592 ай бұрын
I know this was said as a joke because Canadian Highlander doesn't have sideboards, but Opposition Agent does not allow you to view your opponent's side board. 720.4 specifically prohibits viewing information about cards outside the game that only the person being controlled can see (i.e. sideboard cards). This also means that you can't control a player to grab sideboard cards with wish effects. You basically 'fail to find'.

Names now: this is called Jund because it's named after the colour combination refering to one of the shards of Alara which is a well loved set from 16 years ago Names then: this is called Czech Pile because it's a pile of cards some Czech players played
@richterhammockslam9882 ай бұрын
funny enough, Czech Pile is a much newer name than Jund - it came around in 2016 in the late stages of Deathrite Shaman in legacy

A neat line: in the attack at 41:00, if Serge exiled one of his own cards from his own graveyard with the trespasser's attack trigger, it would grow the Laelia to 4/4 so it would trade instead of dying cleanly. He could also use deathrite to grow it further as well.
@bunnyyote2 ай бұрын
I spotted that too!! Even better though by growing Laelia to a 4/4 with deathrite shaman exiling from his graveyard it trades with the first 4/4, shrinking the other construct to a 3/3 with 3 damaged marked on it, killing it too.
@Jedicake2 ай бұрын
Hah. I was just gonna comment that
@Atom1c11412 ай бұрын
Serge also could have just swung with one construct the next turn because of the exalted trigger. He would have always had a bigger construct than wheeler in that case which means he doesn’t have to trade both in on that attack.
@Drayvax2 ай бұрын
I think the reason he didn't do that was because of the Nihil Spellbomb, but that also creates an interesting line. By forcing the Nihil spellbomb, it shrinks the 2 karnstructs on Wheeler's side and makes them trade into Laelia and Graveyard Trespasser.
@Raymaniak2 ай бұрын
@@Drayvax I thought that at first too, but Wheeler using Nihil Spellbomb would also grow Laelia there, so it would eat the Construct XD

Serge was far too scared not blocking the dreadhorde arcanist in that last game, specifically to dodge a deal 3. The snowball it provided: additional card draw, which flips Tamiyo, which makes the Ragavan not deal trample damage with shadow spear. Also that turn the delighted halfling really didn’t need to be tapped if he is concerned about blocking with questing beast.

at 55:50 Serge suggests that The One Ring would win Wheeler the game, in this case however it would not, because Questing Beast's Damage can't be Prevented ability allows you to get through protection. Experiencing this in gladiator was the first time I stopped thinking of Questing Beast purely as a Villain.

7:04 Niche rules thing: you do get to see your opponent's hand while you control them, but you can never see there sideboard. This is because it the sideboard is "outside the game," and obviously you don't control a player outside the game.
@eirh2 ай бұрын
Worth noting that this is a ruling that has been changed, it used to allow you looking at the sideboard. It also now means that wish spells don't function when controlling the opponent, since you can't search their sideboard for a card if you can't look at it.

Only watched the first game so far, but if Oppo Agent is worth playing around, is there a reason to not just crack the fetch main phase when your opponent is tapped out?
@Raymaniak2 ай бұрын
That is, in my opinion, the correct play. The reason not to do it is to have options to fetch different things depending on what your opponent does on their turn. It's sometimes very relevant and I imagine that's why people who play Eternal formats a lot have a very strong habit to fetch as late as possible. That being said, here it wasn't relevant at all - it was pretty clear the play was Bowmasters, and even if it wasn't, playing around Oppo was more important. Later in the video they talk about how players tend to overvalue hidden information.

The triple mox spread limits choices of other cards on the points list and also interacts differently for decks with fewer colors. Doesn't mean it isn't an interesting suggestion, but I think it lacks some context.

@Raymaniak2 ай бұрын
I think of those at least Blood is a more specific archetype rather than a general name for a 4c deck. My pick for 4c archetype names would be "Whiteless", "Blackless" etc. "I'm playing a greenless control deck". "Four color no green" is such a mouthful, I can't believe that's what most people go for.
