In this episode we will take a look at the Czechoslovak Tiger 808 vacuum cleaner, which was an export version of the almost identical Standard vacuum cleaner, intended mainly for the Czechoslovak domestic market. Both of these vacuum cleaners had the same designation, type V 401, and differed only in the inscription on the casing. These devices have been manufactured since 1955 at the Elektro Praga Hlinsko factory, which changed its name to ETA in 1960. According to the information I found, these vacuum cleaners were made until the mid-1960s. The Tiger 808 vacuum cleaner presented here was probably made in the early 1960s, because its nameplate and motor bear the characteristic logo of devices manufactured under the ETA brand.
Tiger 808 - as mentioned - was intended mainly for export, including to the German Democratic Republic.
The vacuum cleaner has an electric motor also produced in the ETA plant, with a power of 300 watts and a speed of 14,000 revolutions per minute.
The author of the design of the Standard and Tiger 808 vacuum cleaners is Stanislav Lachman, one of the leading Czechoslovak designers, who gave form to countless products present in all Czechoslovak households (irons, hair dryers, mixers, and vacuum cleaners). One of the features of the devices designed by Stanislav Lachman is the concealment of mounting elements - there are no screws visible on the outer part of the housing of the Tiger 808 and Standard vacuum cleaners.

Great video! I’m glad I found your channel. I love your videos. The inscription these standard ETA cloth bags had was “Prosím zbav mě dobře prachu.” or in english “please, clean me thoroughly.” As far as I can tell the production of the Standard ended in 1965 but the production of the Tiger continued until 1968 for export only. And your observation about the switch is correct: the round switch that appears on your 401 Standard is the older variant, also the late production V300 would’ve had the same accessories as your Standard. Their export market was quite wide and included both Eastern and Western bloc. I have even had a chance to see an English written owner’s manual for it. Also, I can clear up the information about the older V300 model, these cleaners were in fact not just copies of the old AEG Vampyr. AEG had a factory in Dečín and made the models V200 and V300 there. After the war their production continued under the Elektro-Praga name switching between several factories later on before finally in 1952 their production began in Hlinsko where their production continued until 1954 when the 401 Standard replaced the V300. The V200 had to wait until the 400 Pluto entered production. As far as I know the dates on the wikipedia page aren’t accurate as the official ETA literature gives the production run of the Pluto as 1959-1962. And the Jupiter definitely appears in model listings even during the early 60s Your version with the detachable cable is probably from the period between 1948-1952 as I suspect that the earliest models made between 1945-1948 were still made in the old AEG factory and had wheels (I have seen such examples) and not the skids as seen on your version. and the models made in Hlinsko between 1952-1954 already had permanently attached cables (I actually own one of those). I’m glad you seem to like our Czech machines. Your Jupiter appears to be a later production model as the early ones actually had for their time a very modern all-plastic body!

Thank you very, very much for all this valuable information, which greatly adds to and explains my assumptions about the history of these Czechoslovak models! I don't have many of them (just this Tiger 808, Standard, Jupiter and the V300), but I hope to slowly add to my small collection. Sometimes I pass through the Czech Republic on my way to Austria (through Ostrava, Olomouc, Brno and beautiful Mikulov on the border) and maybe one day I will visit some flea market there and find something interesting. Besides, I also like other Czech devices. I regret that I did not go to the exhibition of equipment designed by Stanislav Lachman, which I read about on the Internet recently. But I would like my videos to at least familiarize viewers in Poland with interesting Czech (Czechoslovak) devices and their history. Tigers 808 are available for sale here from time to time, Standard as well, Jupiters are not very common. Poland had a lot of its own different models produced in Rzeszow, and many were also imported from the USSR, for example Rakieta, which are still very common today. As to the V300: I assumed that Vampyr vacuum cleaners must have been manufactured in Czechoslovakia, but I wasn't sure. I've seen photos of older V300 models on wheels, they're beautiful. In Poland, these V300 vacuum cleaners are very rare, I found actually only this one In Pruszkow near Warsaw, but I don't think they were imported to Poland. Of course, I also invite you to watch other videos about Czech (and not only) devices. I will soon make a video about my Standard vacuum cleaner, which was recently shown at a vacuum cleaner exhibition in Olsztyn. And I will always be very happy to receive additional information in the comments!
