So comforting to know that d', t' or n' sounds (like most other consonants) exist in Czech (I believe in Slovak too) not just in Hungarian.😌😌😌 The letters are a bit different (d'=gy, t'=ty, n'=ny) but they mark pretty much the same sound. That "Ř" sound however demands some practicing. We don't have that sound😮🧐 The most "difficult" sound in Hungarian is d' (or "gy"). Western Europeans still tend to struggle with the latter one as it doesn't really exist in their language (nor anything similar).

It is strange, the for Hungarians is very easy to pronounce almost all the special Czech letters (maybe except ř), even though we don't much in common with any Slavic language.
@CzechWithKaterina3 жыл бұрын
Wow cool! I am not familiar with Hungarian, but maybe the sounds that are in your language can be pretty similar... do you have all the soft sounds except for Ř? Or do you think it might be that Hungarian is so rich on sounds that it is simply easy for you guys to learn any other language..? :)))
@TiredToastTwT3 жыл бұрын
one of my friends who speaks czech reccomended for ř to basically say the word "rush" until you make it ř

O souhlásky v... sorry, I'll have to shift to English... my Czech is not good enough 😪. In many recordings I can swear I hear V pronounced as B! I hear Báclav, or rozbod, instead of Václav or rozvod. I know v will devoice to f (Václaf) and d to t (rozvot). But I can't find anyone to explain why I hear B instead of V - and this is not the devoicing of the consonant. On the other hand, when you pronounce your Vs I don't hear B... can you help, please? Maybe I'm wrong and just can't hear the sounds well...

I recognize the description "Ď is D but softer" from other languages, but it never made sense to me. To me, it sounds like "DJ". Why is it not described that way, is the sound actually different?
@CzechWithKaterina3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, yes, that's exactly the reason - DJ would be actually pronounced differently in Czech than Ď.
