I think the fire is a natural sound along with a water or river gushing. We see one example where the kids knock over the later but yet the monster doesn’t com running in. I think the monster perceives it at a natural sound.

The aliens don't seem to be attracted to naturally occurring noises (wind, trees, running water). The only things they seem attracted to are anomalies ( crashes, chatter, etc. ). As well very light sounds don't garner attention, such as the pitter patter of feet or breathing.

They actually seem to be able to distinguish natural sounds from sounds created by animals or humans. There's a scene towards the beginning where a raccoon is walking around making raccoon noises, not very loud at all, and it gets smashed by one of them

As for methods of reducing noise, notice that when they eat meals they do not use hard plates or utensils. They were eating food off of soft cloth and using their hands. One thing my wife noticed was at the beginning in the store, lots of the shelves were wiped out and empty, but one thing that was not wiped out was the potato chips. Chips are noisy to open and eat.

I may disagree with your hearing aid feedback explanation. I think the feedback comes from the electromagnetic waves that the monsters naturally emit. If you look, when the monsters came close to the outdoor lights, they began to flicker, I think it was because of their natural EM light emission. I think this same EM interference is what caused the hearing aids to make the white noise. Also, when the monster died at the end, all of its buddies came rushing. Yes, the shotgun blast was loud, but that's not what seemed to call their attention. I think the monster used electromagnetic telepathy to call his comrades.

The fire: I assumed that the creatures are smart enough to tell the difference between human sounds and other sounds. The creatures weren't constantly trying to attack the waterfall, for example. The know that leaves rustling aren't worth getting excited about. Or babbling brooks, or crickets, or thunder. They're listening for people and animals. Fire is a natural sound. On the other hand, if these creatures are sentient, they should be suspicious of the sound of fires springing up every night in the same locations. Which should suggest that they're just dumb animals. They're instinctual, not intelligent. Fire is a natural sound, so they ignore it, even though anything with half a brain would quickly realize the fires were controlled fires being set by humans.

The red lights were to let everyone know that the creatures are in the area/ that she was in labour. how else would the dad have known to send the kid, to set the fireworks off, to distract the creatures. The fireworks were set up as a distraction for when the birth happened, as she would need to screem. I mean there is a chance that the birth was planned to happen at the waterfall but the fireworks seem like a smarter option. As it draws the creatures away from the area.

So the dad decided to send the kid to light the fireworks so it was a distraction to get her out , but when he went to get her discovered that she was also in labour and had the baby

I like the theory that the waterfall is probably where she planned on giving birth! I wasn’t paying too much attention to how many days past after we get a glimpse of the calendar, but I am pretty sure the baby came early. The fireworks were probably a plan B However, having given birth, I know it’s not pleasant to walk immediately afterwards. So maybe the waterfall would have been impractical in that sense? I still like the idea the beat though

Good theory. But I doubt they’re herbivores because of their teeth. From what we see they have sharp teeth to eat flesh with. Herbivores usually have flat teeth to eat plants with. Still we don’t get to know what their eating habits are in the movie and why they do attack sound. But I like thinking of them as animal behavioural alien creatures more than intelligent lifefroms similar to humans. And that they might just indeed be very protective territorial creatures. But of course we can’t know for sure

But they do not eat meat, not of any kind, ever. Sure wouldn't assume that based on their dentition, which has "killer" written all over it! Still, the kind of teeth these creatures have do not suggest even the idea of a plant-based diet. Who knows what they ate on their home planet? Maybe they had very aggressive plants!

I think they might be amphibious. During the scene where the basement floods, it immediately goes underwater, as if by instinct. It also has fins on its arms, which may help it swim. It might be a dumb theory because I’m not sure how that would work with the hearing.

I don’t think that the red lights are meant as a defence system, they’re more of a warning to passers by or their family that there may be monsters around. The monsters in the movie don’t seem to be affected at all by the red lights hung up at the farm. Because the traffic light is knocked down, I don’t think it was purposeful, as you can see, later on in the film (if you’ve watched it) she sets off the timer as a distraction for the monster in her basement so she can run. The monster juts seems to swipe everything in its path, not just go directly for the noise. The monsters seem to be quite inaccurate to where they aim and just move everything’s in their path. This is probably just a coincidence that they’re both red lights, but good thinking.

The red lights are a silent alarm. It means a creature is inside their territory. It means to be on high alert. She killed one creature at the end, and you see two running on the monitor. The father was right, there is three in the area. My guess is the other two came and the mother and daughter used their gun and hearing aid to kill the remaining two in the area. They then reached out to other survivors to tell them what the creatures weakness was. I imagine a good ending beyond the ending we seen.

Eddie Cardwell no the lights were not a monster warning. They were a warning for her family that she was going into labor. Once her family saw the red lights, they knew that they needed to make as much noise as possible. The rockets were set up as a one time thing made for when she gave birth. Plus, she went down to the office place to turn on the red lights before she attracted the monsters.

Great movie, but your idea of them breeding here has no basis at all. But more importantly an Alien race without vision simply cannot travel through space. It's just a movie. But I would lean towards it's a genetically modified predator. Obviously alien, most likely used as a pre-invasion force by a higher function Alien race. Why risk your own species when you can use an effective predator. Think about it, makes sense to me.

A Quiet Place: This movie was, "Awesome." Also, I believe the "Lighting System," represented the Traffic Light. Red (Stop or Danger), Yellow (Slow or Caution) Green (Which wasn't seen. So, wasn't needed/or yet/plus safe). Plus, although they burly spoke the Family knew the Baby was due, any day. So the Switch to Red, was coincidental to danger, & labor pains. A good example would be at night when it's not so loud you can hear more clearly try this in your own home when you go to bed no mater where you live when you go to lay down just lay there and listen you'll hear your sounds you didn't hear during the day. I don’t typically comment negatively on videos but this movie has so many other interesting points to explore and you are somehow primarily challenging things that the movie clarifies. Red lights? There was no evidence to prove they were bothered by it and it was an obvious warning sign to the rest of the family. “So many more in the area?” Krasinski’s character stated there were 3. They killed 1 and 2 came running. 3. “Sound is not an issue for them in space” Sound is not an ISSUE for them- it’s their most well developed sense because it’s integral to their survival. If we’re talking plot holes, why not mention the ease of living next to a waterfall? Or lining the walls with mattresses? Or even TESTING the sound proof room before it was necessary? How did the daughter know the rocket toy wasn’t making noise when she placed it at her brothers grave? And why didn’t she follow her own advice of remaining still in the silo?

I don’t think there’s more than three creatures in the immediate “threatening” area to their farmhouse and here’s why: 1. The board says there are 3 in the area. Of course, people can be wrong. But the board was clearly an important exposition tool for the film. Considering that the filmmaking was done very carefully to avoid unimportant information and/or continuity errors, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that everything shown in this movie is shown because it is important. Meaning that they wouldn’t bring repeated focus to this “3 in the area” thing if it were leading untrue. That’s just bad filmmaking. Also, in the final scene, only 2 more run by the security cams, after the one was killed. The mother and daughter appear newly confident in their ability to kill them. And I doubt they would exhibit this same confidence if they saw much more than 2 left in the area, especially not if they saw “‘many, many more”. They’re obviously very powerful creatures. This is not to say that there aren’t more in the less-immediate area, such as the woods and the bridge area. I just don’t believe that there are more than 3 total on the farm. That would make a lot of the information the movie gives us pointless, and I believe it’s a better made movie than one that would give out pointless information.

Judy Ayala I’m not buying that. This movie took a lot of time to focus on important plot points with its direction. There was A LOT of focus on the “3 creatures in area” thing. A lot. I saw in one of the other trailers that there’s a newspaper article stating there was 158 landings, I don’t think this is them arriving in a ship so to speak because of there primitive nature but maybe it was a meteor shower of some sorts and they were simply inhabiting said meteors, this would explain why there armour is so tough and why it goes underwater and when it comes up, we don’t see it taking a breath, that makes me believe that they could be an interstellar virus of some sorts, personally I don’t think it was a gradual invasion as if these creatures multiplied slowly, then why would the army have such a problem fighting back if we see one get taken out with a single shotgun blast, I don’t think these creatures were set out for invasion in the sense that they care to invade more like they just stumbled onto our planet like they probably did many others, though I must say I don’t think they communicate telepathically like said in the pinned comment, great video though left a lot to think and discuss about. The whole joke of the movie is that if it hears something at a distance itd hear very low noises, to where in the cornfield it would easily hear their breathing and heartbeat. Sit in an absolutely silent room and you can very clearly hear your own organs working. The creatures hear something so quiet that we could only hear it from around 20-30 feet but they are hundreds of feet away. Decibels are exponential so itd be all but inaudible at that range but they hear it.

Thats the whole deal. Ambient noise would be louder than dropping a plate at 50 yards. Your breathing from a few feet away from the monster would be louder than someone talking 100 feet away. So them coming running because a raccoon was wandering outside would mean it had to be really close to the building thus would hear them moving, breathing, heartbeat. Even electricity has ambient noise so of they just listened to electricity they could find the family. (Yes we humans can clearly hear power lines, lights, etc even through wind and storms to where if power goes out we can detect that) so super hearing monster should hear everything. They just filmed it this way to try to be tense. Previously monsters attacked as soon as it heard something whereas in close proximity to the family the monster just stood around a while. When the son died the dad had been running on the sand which definitely isn't quiet so the monster presumably would have killed them both. I like how this movie was filmed but it was very poorly thought out.

when is it said that they don't eat meat? that said, a creature having teeth for defense is not impossible, we have herbivores on earth that have defensive parts like horns, tusks, and claws.

This question may be considered a spoiler to some... Close to the end of the movie, when the kids light the fire on the silo, should we just assume that everyone around them is dead or are they hiding? No one ever responded to them with their own fire and I’m not sure why the kids did it in the first place. I also find it kind of weird that all these other groups would die on the same couple of days.

Max The Cute Cat I’m pretty sure the kids were trying to use the fire as a signal to there dad and not really a way to communicate with the other communities. At the start we also see that the dad lit the fire at a specific time, so I would probably say that the other people would probably be hiding or just didn’t see the fire

Liam Urbas alright I get that, but when the kids lit the fire, weren’t they looking around for their fires? I remember the camera panning towards where the fires were lit initially and kids looked disappointed. Idk, maybe I just don’t remember it that well.

Max The Cute Cat yeah you do have a point, but I just don’t see the point of look for the other survivors when there still in a crisis with the aliens. Idk maybe they were looking for the other survivors but I just see it as way to highlight there position to the father, especially afterwards when the fire goes out and they start arguing if he’s coming to get them or not.

Great observation, I notice that as well, it signified to me the others are gone, because wouldn't their lights still burn at that time of night ....I believe this movie overall will tie into the Cloverfield universe

I think it was because they didn't manage to get the fire high enough. It was a pretty small fire. And the girl kept squeezing fuel on it desperately before it went out. And it lasted not even a minute before it went out. I think its safe to say the other just didn't see it because the kids just didn't manage to light a big enough fire. Not even the Dad saw it on the ground close to the shilo.
