I was in Tokyo last month and Shinjuku was full of these groups from Okinawa performing, it was amazing💛 Is it for some kind of religious festivity or for something else? (I asked there, but nobody could answer😅)

This is a traditional Okinawan festival called Eisa, held during the Obon season to express gratitude to ancestors and celebrate prosperity. Every year, in the summer months of July and August, Eisa festivals and dancers appear all across Okinawa! Be sure to come and experience the authentic Eisa for yourself!
