I've been using XL9s since the mid 80s. All of sets are excellent, but XLs are my go-to set. What I like about them is they have a perfect balance of warmth and brightness/presence. They also hold up very well. I've had the same set on one of my guitars for three months and they still sound great. They also feel fantastic. I find that they hold their tune better than most brands. My backup strings, if I can't find D'Addarios, are Ernie Ball Cobalt 9s. Good strings too, but I prefer D'Addario. I've also used Dean Markley Blue Steels but I find them but be a big jangly on the wound strings.

The NYXL pack you are holdig looks like the 10-46 Balanced Tension pack. If you wanted the same feel as the regular XL's you should have just got the regular 10-46.

Gracias, Tony!

I finally picked up a pack of NYXL's now that the price dropped a bit. I think I bought them late last year and put them on not too long before the pandemic. Now fast forward a few months, I only recently picked up new strings since stores are open again, but I couldn't believe how great the NYXLs hold up. On my '81 LP Custom, all strings feel a gauge or two lighter so I haven't really noticed a difference in tension. I picked up some for my strat but haven't put them on yet, and that will be a good test. One thing I will note, I'm fairly sure the XT's are essentially NYXLs with a very thin coating added to them, but they have the same hard steel core so I would expect them to feel the same.

11 month update: I have since tried NYXL 10s on my strat and they tried to murder with my fingers. I put 9s on the strat, and they felt right where regular 9s did not. I still buy NYXLs if I'm buying 9s.

@@lukec1471 Yeah no problem. I didn't even realize the 9s were stiffer, but when I put the 10s on my strat, it was basically money wasted because I could barely play the thing. However NYXL 9s did feel pretty good on my strat where regular 9s felt too thin for that guitar.

I used XL strings for years. I then switched to NYXL. Now I’m an XT user. Strings last forever. And a little less bright than NYXL. Daddarios hold intonation very well. Plus have some bend.

I literally have had XL 10/46 on a guitar for 2.5years and they still sound great.

Hola estimado. Saludos! Buen video.

Thr diff. Between the nyxl and thr Xt's might be the diff. In the length from thr neck to the bridge. i. e. Tension(?)

Hi, after several months playing XT, how does it last? And tension-wise, what do you think about it now? Thanks
@TonyMartinez4 жыл бұрын
Latest Latest i prefer XTs over NYXL, cant notice a feel or tension difference. Still regular XLs are my go to

@@TonyMartinez hi..thx for replying fast..but I don't get what u mean..do you mean that XT has the same tension as NYXL or with regular XL? And how about the longevity of the XT? Thank u
@TonyMartinez4 жыл бұрын
Latest Latest I mean, XTs are closer in tension and tone to my regular XLs. NYXL have more tension ( to my feel ) and more ... high frequencies. XTs last way more than regular XLs

@TonyMartinez5 жыл бұрын

That’s not the correct way to change strings. You are messing up your neck by releasing all the tension. Replace 1 string at a time to keep tension on the neck. The main difference between NYXL and XL is the core. Hex vs round. That’s a major tone difference you didn’t mention or even notice. Hex core is brighter and sharper. Round is more mellow and smooth.

That doesn’t make a difference, people have been changing all strings at once for decades without ill effects. Also how do you clean fretboard and frets if not? You’re wrong

6ascon 6ascon yo no giro ninguna tortilla.
