I understand most ppl view semiHB's as "blues and jazz" machines. But , for me I just love the tone of a slightly/moderately overdriven semiHB w/good HB's. there's no other tone like it for rock n' roll. one of my favorites.

Well-played, Darrell, on a gorgeous instrument. I've admired D'Angelico guitars for years, and especially like the Art Deco vibe of the headstock details (tuning machine knobs, truss rod cover, etc.) and the stairstep trapeze tail. Just beautiful, and - to my ear - excellent tone, as well.

I've been looking at buying this for some while, it's simply lovely, and your playing really brings out the best in it. However the model that's about three times the cost of this, with their amazing six way toggle pickup switch, and the split coil option, is making me think that that's the one I really want. Leo Ryan good for you man ☺My girlfriend bought a secondhand Harley benton version of this guitar for 120euro. The earlier ones were more Gibson like. At the time I was working on a real Gibson 335 and the only difference between them was nicer looking piece of rosewood and nicer fret ends on the Gibson. Nothing wrong with the Harley Benton though. And the other difference was the Gibson worth 2500 - 3000 euro. The build quality was practically the same. What a great guitar for 120 euros ☺

Thanks for this review - I've always wanted a semi-hollow body. Turns out, I recently had some major surgery and found my strat and tele to be too heavy for me to play comfortably. Then I saw where Musician's Friend had the DC Boardwalk on sale..........so Saturday was New Guiitar Day for me! So far, I love it - very comfortable to play as I recover! Thanks again!

As always, great playing and sensible commentary. I love these semi-hollow guitars, although they can be heavy on the old shoulder. I have a pair of Duncan Phatt Katt P90's in my Washburn semi and love the sound of them. My experience is that they have a 'sweeter' quality when cleaned up, especially in the neck position. Would love to hear a comparison of the P90's with humbuckers in one of these or similar semi-hollow. The Phatt Katts come in a form factor to directly replace the humbuckers and are all chrome to maintain the look.

Very nice looking and sounding guitar. Love the versatility of semi-hollow body. I have an Ibanez AS93 that is very comparable. I think, bottom line, is that if people aren't hung up on the name on the headstock there are a lot of really good instruments out there that can be had without paying ridiculous prices.

Gorgeous looks and tones to match. Great budget alternative to a 335. Seemed to handle gain pretty well and it just sings in your hands on the slow blues stuff. Great video as always. I bought an EX-SS on stupid deal of the day about a year ago. For about the same price as this one. I loved it immediately. The body was a bit smaller than a traditional semi-hollow and it was just a work of art. The only thing that it had was a very very small chip on the finish that came from the factory because it had clear coat over it, I only discovered it because I nitpicked every detail of the guitar. I contacted Musicians Friend about and was going to exchange it but after a week.... I didnt I guess I bonded to much with that guitar. It's easy so easy to play it's almost like cheating I swear, and you just feel good playing it.

I got two of these awhile ago. A white one and a black one. Both without F holes and pick guards. And with stop tail bridges. I think I have different pickups because mine don't sound this good. But not even plugged in they ring like a bell and play great! Getting 4 new pickups isn't cheap but I only paid €750 for both of them together so it's worth the upgrade... Love those headstocks!

I’m buying same box, only in gloss black! I’m expanding my chops to include jazz. Their EXL-1 almost got in my cart, but I think if a semi is good enough for Carlton, it’s good enough for me. Back in the ‘60s I had a Gibson ES-150TD Natural, a full hollow with 4” depth. Gibson only made them for a couple of years. Had to sell it and haven’t had a semi or full hollow since.

I ordered the Premier Atlantic last year, but it arrived with a broken head stock and I have not committed to another yet. Really like the look of the new Brighton model.
