This is awesome! I was in the studio during the makingnof this album. I worked for Long time D'Angelo collaborator Raphael Saadiq. The two of them popularized Neo Soul. They put together a concept of "laying it back". Playing very slightly behind the beat. It adds a "slump" to the groove. Try that and you will instantly feel the Grove lock together... keep up the great work!!

That’s interesting! I was thinking while listening that the song had a weird feel, with a perceived “lagging” of the tempo. I had to focus on the percussion to see if Julia was on the beat or not.
