Hi Julia, I am 62 and started playing drums 45 years ago. Played some tours, some demos and CDs. I have also picked up bass and guitar. I have fun, but am deadly serious about music! You are a youngster and have all, and nothing but positive/useful elements. Your timing, syncopation, taste, bass tone, the way you touch the strings etc... You are a pro, and I value your playing and demeanor/bedside manor top notch for any serious pro band. Anyone disagree? Are you a pro? Do you play paying gigs and sessions? Just thought I had to ask. Keep it up Julia, the musicians of the world need quality bass players.

@@juliaplaysgroove you are so good to watch. I used to be in a band playing cover songs over 30 years ago, and we couldnt find a bass player. I was the keyboard player and it was decided that I play bass with my left hand on a Yamaha DX7, which had very realistic sounds back in the day. Ive always followed bass lines more than anything when listening to records so it was an easy and very rewarding thing for me to do. Obviously I wasnt playing like a proper bass player but it was a decent effort I think.
@martinbrandt39073 жыл бұрын
@@oddities-whatnot That's memories - the DX7 was a tricky beast. I did the same as you mentioned - had to improvise the base. I found "snapping" was best done on mini keys - loved the Casio CZ-101 for this function. The warm sounds of a Roland Juno 106 for the right hand. I later switched the latter for a Roland D50, but the DX7 was a consideration.

The reason why I love this is because she is playing this bassline with the exact feel of THE ORIGINAL song! Ive heard many play this line and some are super stiff and robotic or some are too lazy and dragging it. This girl has it. She absorbed the feel of that bassline and perfectly duplicated!! Bravo!! -BLAQNINJA

Wow, FunkTasTic! I just picked up the bass again, not that I'm EQ, when I was a teen I jammed a bit here and there, now in my 50's and have some time, want to at least be clean and decent so I can teach my 6yr old son and almost 3 yr old daughter how to funk jam a bit. You are my inspiration, Thank you!

GOOD ON YOU! Rare to see young - self taught folks, I came up the same way, really digging into the classics!! Thats how its done. You have great feel! I just stumbled across you (as I was looking to see how had done Jamiroquai covers (first funk tune I ever taught myself was Whatever It Is off their first album.... back in 94! (Side bar - I ended up going to music school in my early 30s, after a few years of making money on the bandstand playing in local funk/jazz outfits... and when I did end up going to school - moved to NYC and went to The Bass Collective... I ended up working their for a couple of years, the same time Tal Wilkenfeld came through. I was standing their the minute she met Oteil Burbridge - which changed the trajectory of her career). I hope you are out rocking some bandstand in your area - blowing away all the old cats with your sick grooves. And if you arent .... get out there !!! The best way to grow is with a crew of other musicians pushing and challenging you. Best of luck! Cheers!
