As Bass Player Magazine journalist Chris Jisi put it:
" Pino's part on the melodic hook of One Mo' Gin contrasts the Delta-dirty bass and keyboards on the tune's verses...he uses 10ths and other arpeggio shapes to add interest and color to the sparse track".
In the same BP issue (May 2000) Pino says:
" D comes up with amazing bass parts in his left hand. He would play me about 80 percent of a line, and the remaining 20 percent was open to my interpretation. My approach, which he encouraged, was to constantly develop the line with subtle variations, à la Jamerson "
C#F#BE tuning and 7 years old 105/50 flats

Been telling folks for years that this joint is the unsung masterpiece of Voodoo. Subtle genius. Great work man

Honestly i don't know if i even have a fav track off of this album; Songwriting-wise, some tracks are obviously more sophisticated than others (Send It On, The Root, Untitled, Spanish Joint, Africa or this one) but even the more beat oriented tracks like Playa, Devil's Pie, Chicken Grease, The Line, Great Day... reach me all the same you know. Voodoo is a timeless masterpiece concept album, a cohesive analog sounding musical journey w/a beginning and an ending and a pretty much linear and kinda slow tempo throughout (except for Spanish Joint) i have a vivid memory of the 1st time i heard it (where and with who i was) i must be over 1k listenings since 2000 and i just can't get tired of it, i wouldn't say the same about Brown Sugar or Black Messiah, which i dig a lot too of course but those are albums in which i have favorite tracks, unlike Voodoo. That being said, i'm more than eager to hear the next chapter which could be released sooner or later ;)

I like your way of teaching. First groove the hell out of it then just play it in slow and show hands. No need to talk, no waste of time with self advertising and fluff. You are amazing my dude!

yeah i don't remember cause it's been a while but i must have said to myself "well i might as well break that down while i'm at it" Actually this one ain't as hard as Chicken Grease or Playa Playa off the same album, lotsa variations of course but the groove is almost regular lol What a tune and bass part though, i still can't get over it 20 years after!

Hey Greg, I instantly cranked on the Vodoo album and listened to playa playa after reading your response..Yes, you can definitely hear traces of OC 2 on playa playa..am i righ tin saying though that the settings for OC 2 were mild? i mean if you dont really listen closely you would not notice..can you probably share his settings on playa2 if u dont mind? Also- what compressor did you use on One Mo GIn? can you also share your settings if you dont mind? You are awesome Greg! looking forward..

Which model of Sadowsky bass is this? What kind of electronics does it have? Also, and this is coming from a black man, you're black enough.

Standard '99 JB w/swamp ash body, maple neck and fingerboard, Sadowsky pickups(DiMarzio ultrajazz actually) i pretty much never used the preamp cause i found it too modern and bright sounding... i sold this bass 2 years ago and i'm playing a €350 all stock Squier vintage modified JB which sounds and plays very good imo
