Thank you for showing your process. Journaling and creative writing is the foundation for solo story creation. It really is a worthwhile pastime. Just slow everything down and relax. Hard to do.

In my mind while you were reading Wanderings #24, I envisioned an Abby. A church where multiple acolytes lived and learned. An abby that had been abandoned years before. Druids in D&D are Nature Priests of sorts and are typically not into the stone and mortar of cities and civilization, and could be the reason for the abby being abandoned. The depletion could be a depletion of belief. Making the abby belong to a religious order that revers civilization or the advancement of civilization. Maybe one if the leaders in the abby turned away from their beliefs and began to follow the belief that nature is the way. And the nature they followed was the nature of pestilence and decay, which falls in line with typically evil Druids. I have played D&D for more than 40 years and this thoughtful way of developing the environment is very appealing to me. Thank you for sharing this!

Fantastic video. Your channel is what got me interested in solo rpg years ago, and this video really gets to the essence of what got me excited: it's about the story not the stats! Of course, we want the excitment of rolling, but without purpose it grows boring quickly. Great stuff! And shameless plug for you, Wanderings is a great core generative book. I've used it in my last two campaigns and love the environment it helps create!

The very first solo game I did was indeed 5e with a heathy dose of Scarlet Heroes injected in. Still remember this playthrough fondly.

I can’t understate how happy I am that you made this video! I’ve been wanting to solo play a 5e setting known as Planegea for a while now, since finding actual Players has been hard, but I had no clue if soloing 5e was even a fun experience. People recommended I convert the setting to Scarlet Heroes or 3Deep, but if your tips work out then I don’t think I have to. Thanks!

One reason this is critically important, homebrewer's DO NOT PLAYTEST! In chat's on D&D streams, I have learned that 99.9% of DM's simply make changes without playtesting. WoTC is equally guilty!

Very interesting ideas to start a campaign. I was thinking of a priest trying to find help against a curse, a blight on the land that brought famine. The culprit is an evil drudic cult, and the priest's ex-acolyte is part of it. "Artistic performance" would mean that our heroes are part of a traveling circus, down on their luck, crossing these accursed lands and desperate for food and cash.

Great video 👍 I like 5e for solo play but I like OSE rulesets better. 5e has to much information that it’s just getting in your way as a solo player.

Yes agree. That’s part of the reason behind the series... to help parse thru the basic books and give a map toward selecting material that will help soloists for those interested in soloing d&d.

Very interesting video, I saw that framework role as fitting, since you haven't specified character creation yet, it could have fit in as investiture of a Paladin which goes with your religious outlook as to what & why this quest or event is occurring.

Yes...can't wait to see the adventure underway.. once I understand that I can start branching my story. Just missing that critical piece to solo. I desperately want to do a single solo PC point of view. Multiple characters seems daunting when I can't even tackle one PC.

Agree that running multiple characters is hard-I often don’t! Running one takes tweaks to monster encounters for example but is possible

Which version of D&D do you think is the best for solo play? Assuming not using any other supplements from other versions or publishers, just material from that version, or even just using the "core books"?

Great question. In a way, I think AD&D or even Basic. Fewer rules… to me that makes it easier. I have a vid on soloing Basic D&D as well as a few vids on soloing 5E

@@GeekGamers01 I've played B/X and 3.5 the most and am most comfortable with those systems. I've been trying to decide which version of D&D to solo and wasn't sure what you (and others) found to be the easiest to run.
