I loved the Kobolds but in my version they were tiny dog people , like little brothers to the gnolls. I think my first rules set had them as dog creatures. Our best fight was the nubie group getting dropped on from above. by the growling kobolds cutting at them with axes and knives. and while they attempted to hit t he kobolds and often ended up hitting their own party members.

My players loved this adventure. I had Kurtz ramble on before he died about the face of horror covered with worms and rot. The cannibals were all infected by a Son of Kyuss from a neighboring cave, a nice bit of foreshadowing.

I have a similar encounter based on the movie The Descent, where characters try to take a short-cut through some caves and end up encountering eyeless, slug-like humanoids that use clicking to sense prey etc with echolocation. They are weak but attack in swarms. Near the heart of the caverns the Players find evidence these were once proto-human ancestors who got trapped in ancient mines after some sort of cosmic calamity ( think bunkers after a huge meteorite). Love the fact that you are taking regular old monsters and giving them a new flavour to usurp players expectations and create a sense of unease and unfamiliarity,

My first D&D combat roll ever was against one of those kobolds that jumped down out of the trees. For two action-packed rounds my wizard failed to bonk the kobold with a stick while the kobold missed with his rusty knife. After that, one of the party heavies aerated the kobold’s peritoneal cavity and that was that. Everyone laughed at my wizard insisting that he was tiring the monster out and that he was about to crush his head like an egg with the next swing. Good times.

I’m absolutely astounded by the wealth of information contained within these episodes. The “Creepers” are my new favorite low level monster. Brilliant. Gold Rush - In the wake of a resent earthquake in the area the local duchy hired a survey party to go to the nearby mountain region to see if any new veins of gold, silver, or iron have been exposed. The party members are hired as laborers or specialist if they have an applicable skill. Unfortunately 1 or 2 other noblemen or brigands are attracted to the area as well. This can create a competition between the rivals as they search the area. A cave with multiple entrances will be found with a burned corpse at each one. Inside the cave is a corrupted wizard that sees random creatures as foul beings that must be burned. He has however created several corrupted beasts that will defend him and the caves. He will even set the beasts on fire as they run toward the party causing horror and more damage if they hit. The corrupted wizard would prefer to capture people to cleanse them as he puts it and do experiments on those he catches. This just some random thoughts for the basics of a campaign or session or two. Feel free to use it and expand on it.

Really enjoying your channel, this is one of my favorite episodes. I like the tavern. Good job. The skull and rat room is great. Get some grim and forboding all up in there. I love what uou did with the kobolds. They're over used and not scary monsters. Creepers though. Thats scary. The dungeon map has a lower case "h" shape to it. I would change it to a "b" shape of hallways, the larger chambers off to one side or the other. This gives room for the players to make more decisions. I can see a comical chase scene with the player running round and round. I would also add a chimney access to it. An escape hatch or a space for clever players to sneak in. Maybe the pit trap has a covered shaft 50-60 feet up to trap unwary humanoids and animals into thier lair. "Jacquay" the dungeon a bit.

This is a character I idea I used in one of the 5E D&D games I played. What do you think about his story? Tololok was the choosen son of Balutha and Balok A'Daragon one of the up and coming houses. The Matron of the House Balutha was as ruthless as they come. Tololok had one brother (Duagloth) and sister (T'risstree) both were quite jealous of their younger brother. Tololok's skill with traditional Drow weapons physical prowess as well as his natural awareness of his surroundings made him a clear threat to his siblings survival. They knew that eventually they would be cast aside and he would be given power, as much as a male in the house could have anyway, over them. The only thing keeping them in line for having the honor of serving under their mother was that they were older and more intelligent sister. T'risstree like her mother was ruthless while Duagloth was cunning. After losing yet again to Tololok in a sparing match T'risstree was going to backstab him as he removed his protective gear. Duagloth sensing her intent knew this would not only fail but bring punishment from mother on them both. Especially since Tololok was her loyal skilled favorite. Duagloth grabbed his sister by the hand and said let me help you with your gear. Then when nobody was paying them any attention whispered to her there is a better way to get rid of him let me help you sister. She relaxed her grip on her sparing weapon and went to her chambers with Duagloth to discuss his plan. Duagloth tells his sister in a few days we are to go on survival training. Lead to the Darklake blindfolded and given a map to follow our way back home. I can have a false map made that will lead him to a well known giant spiders nest. A place where filth are sacrificed to Lolth. It will please her get rid of him and when you take mothers place one day I will loyally be by your side. A wry smile forms on her pursed lips in approval of the plan. The next day they set out to complete the plan bribing the right people to carry it out. They travel for several days to the spot they are to find there way home. With only a backpack, bedroll, waterskin, rope, a few days rations, and a Dagger they are then given a map told to start back only after an hour has passed. Tololok looks at his siblings and says I will beat you both back home. Just like I beat you in everything else. His siblings snicker and say fine we will take you up on that bet. We will even give you a head start of an hour. Tololok looks at them feeling something is up but dismisses it as bravado in their mental skill. Tells them that he wants to be fair he will give them a head start of an hour because he wants to keep an eye on them as they leave and not try and follow him. This is when Tololok the chosen one finds out too late that he was set up. After days of travel the landmarks on the map lead him to a cave. One with obvious webs about it. He must follow the map so he move inside and is quickly attacked by a Giant Spider. He fights it to no avail he is quickly paralyzed and webbed up for later consumption. As he lay there all he could think is how did this happen. Lolth had forsaken him so he told himself when he dies today it will not be as a loyal follower of Lolth but of her daughter that rebelled against her. Time passes and he starts to regain movement in his muscles but his body is still restrained. The Giant Spider started pulling his webbed body to the ceiling to feed on him when a young Giant Lizard wandered in. The Giant Spider stuck him to the ceiling and descended on the unsuspecting meal. When two adult Giant Lizards came in and attacked the Giant Spider that was about to pounce on the young one. As the fight proceeded one of the Lizards was killed. However, the fight caused Tololok to fall from the ceiling on the now dead Lizard, cushing his fall. He then managed to use the dead Lizards teeth to cut his way out. The Giant Spider at this point just barely survived the assault had poisoned the other two Lizards. Tololok grabbed a broken tooth of the Giant Lizard and delivered the final blow to the Giant Spider. The Lizards all lay there paralyzed Tololok grateful for the Lizards doesn't gut them as he was trained to do for the meat. Instead he guts the spider taking everything he can from it. Then searches the other bodies for possible supplies. The lizard regain movement and take a liking to Tololok, even allowing him to ride them with his spoils. For years he lived with the Giant Lizards losing touch with his heritage. His siblings were quite proud of what they had done thinking he was dead. Until on a raid to the surface world found an old rusty dagger. One that had their house mark on it. When the human who had it was beaten and questioned he said a strange looking drow dropped it when he ran away after we spotted him snooping around our camp some weeks ago.

Love your spin on campaign, love the mini's, the sets and the narration (best I've seen for D&D subject matter on KZbin) - however, with that said, you should turn off the auto focus feature on your camera. It will remain focused and stable in darker light. Also, you should invest in a cheap camera slider. It will make your shots so much more stable when shooting such small subjects. There are also easy ways in post to pan, tilt and "slide" the shot ( if you are using 4k especially. ) slow motion and 24 fps also makes it look cinematic. Not trying to slam your work - it' awesome - just some advice for epic videos! Can't wait to see more! :)

I have both the original B2 module and the Silver Anniversary "Return to the Keep on the Borderlands". I've always liked the "Keep" but haven't run it. After telling one of my groups of your 0-level PC concept, there has been mild interest, including 3d6 in order of stats. It's now a distinct possibility. I doubt the grittiness will be at your level but it'll certainly be ratcheting things down several notches. It occurs to me that the Creepers might be descendants of cultists and brigands infected with a weird fungus of Cult of Zuggtmoy. The Goblins might be the unwitting agents of this cult starting in the first place.
@DUNGEONCRAFT15 жыл бұрын

Great advice! First time I’ve watched you walk thru a mod’d scenario. I really like the idea of using different names than the books; I actually don’t name them at all - I just describe them. I’ve got 6-8 players & 3 are very good RP & know the rules better than me. So if I’m not sure of a rule, I ask them or show them the stat block. They’re good enough that they hint to me what should be done, & continue to RP their chars as if they didn’t know. How did you achieve the appropriate level of flickering light?? That more than anything really established how difficult it is to see in a cave! Definitely going to use your colored light disks idea!

Professor! I literally just made an encounter where I completely plagiarize the Marlon Brando monologue from Apocalypse Now! I'm gonna chalk this coincidence up to "great minds think alike." Definitely going to borrow your creeper monsters. Seem like real nasty little buggers. As always, thanks for the fantastic videos.

The descent movie monsters are cool.

Thanks! (Although Descent stole those monsters from a Robert E. Howard story--I forget which one).

Cheeseburger Dave Do you post your videos? I do a write up each session, as a summary. Actually, I have the chars write it as a log for their benefactor - No log = less cash!

Professor Dungeon Master, can you please let me know what sort of graph paper you’re using to draw the 3D maps? Many thanks for your time and consideration. Kind regards!
@DUNGEONCRAFT15 жыл бұрын
I went on amazon and searched for 3-d graph paper. I ordered whatever came up.
@watchdog36885 жыл бұрын
Dungeon Craft thank you very much; I believe I found the paper there and have placed an order to try my hand at your style of map making. I really appreciate your quick and kind reply! Best regards!

Top-Channel. One question: In the tavern there is a green hooded human with a xbow and a shield over his belly (timestamp 02:22) - where can I find this one?

What miniatures did you use for the creepers? I love their look and cannot seem to find anything like them anywhere.
@DUNGEONCRAFT15 жыл бұрын
I don't know what they are. I got them at Gencon at a booth that sells painted minis. Check to see if someone identified the in the comments below.

Can you provide us a more in depth look at how you make your dungeon masters copy of the re-imagined version of the keep on the borderlands?

I just sit down and draw it. Is there something specific you want to see?

DUNGEON CRAFT do you just take it one section at a time and redraw the maps? Then repopulate the rooms and make new descriptions? Where did you get the room descriptions? It’s a very interesting style and would make it so much easier to dm without the page flipping
@DUNGEONCRAFT15 жыл бұрын
I'm going to add a section to the next video where I draw out the maps and place the monsters. I'll give you a shout-out!
