I'm such a sucker for the Artwork on the AD&D books. 5E's artwork is very nice as well.

The art from the AD&D-AD&D 2e era was so inspiring for an adventuring party approach to things. I like how they tried to bring in some elements of that 'feel' for 5e, while still keeping more modern stylings. I need to take a look at just the evolution of artwork through the D&D editions some time.

Personally I don't care for 3.5 and especially not 4th edition. but, I am a big fan of 5E! The artwork to this day of AD&D fills my mind with imagination and that drive to go have an epic adventure!

An excellent video from the Master of D&D himself. Nice video dude, i found this very imformative. I never did play any of 1st edition rules, although i did watch a session for nearly 3 hours before i decided to join the club....many many moons ago.... And then the group of guys i was with played AD&D which they all said was far better, so i stuck with that. Don't think i ever played 3rd or 4th edition rules apart from the computer game Icewind Dale 2 which i think used 3rd edition. But from what i have watched these 5th Edition rules seemed to have breathed new life into the game, cos it seems like everyone is playing them, well at least those on you tube i have watched. Keep up the great videos Dude, look forward to more of the same. :)

Thanks for watching and the feedback, and yeah, 5th edition really did recapture a lot of the old feel, while incorporating several modern touches. It's gonna be a few vids before I get to cover it though, because wow there were a lot more than 5 editions lol.

I mean Idk I might start getting into the older editions of dnd instead of 5e

They both have their strong points. 5e is easier to find a group for (and as I usually say, the best version of D&D is the one you actually get to play), but if you have a group, it's easier than ever to get into some of the older school versions due to reprints and commercially available PDFs. I would recommend against starting with the actual white box though, unless you use a better organized retro clone. It's nice and all, but the original rulebooks can be a little ... obtuse.

Tactical Studio Rules? Did I hear you correctly?
@rpgcrawler

My script says Tactical Studies Rules, but I have been known to completely mispronounce things as a similar word as I read them and then fail to catch them in editing. Good catch.

In my RPG Storytime series I have a bookshelf tour. It's a few years old now and lacks some recent additions, but I believe it does cover quite a bit..

I'd be very interested in a similarly thorough take on the OSR systems though I understand that's a very different project. Or have you done such a thing already?
@rpgcrawler
@rpgcrawler 2 жыл бұрын
I have done individual reviews on a few systems in my review series, but it's more the mechanics and layout rather than the history and such.

@@rpgcrawler Ah cool! I'll check those out. A somewhat coherent history of the OSR would be super cool even though there are limitations to the research.

Weren't elves in original D&D effectively multiclass fighter/mages? At least, that's what the memory that 12 year old me filed away for middle aged me says.
@rpgcrawler

Sort of. By the rules they were both fighters and magic users, except they had to choose whether to operate as one or the other before each adventure. In B/X and later they became more akin to true fighter/mages.

LOL - Not at the same session, though. Later notes in various supplements seem to (they don't definitely) point to the notion that we are meant to envision the DM refereeing several different parties of players over a course of weeks or months, comprising a single narrative or region where all of their activities are taking place. In later interviews, players from both Dave's and Gary's groups, including some TSR employees, would point to this being normal, as it allowed the game to progress and be tested by large sized groups even when several regular players were not available. So... four to ten people per group, four to ten groups, rotating out over weeks.
