D&D Terrain: Is This the Best Affordable Option?

Here's a bit of a tip from a DM of mine who used dungeon tiles in the past. Before the game, assemble the dungeon you want and take a picture of it with your phone. That way you'll know how you want it set up ahead of time.

These are magnificent tiles! One obstacle to using these tiles is that they have a tendency to slide. The solution I’ve found to combat this is to use the non-skid shelf liner. Simply roll it out and place your tiles. There is also a set of outdoor tiles by the same company.

Glad you found something you like :D I tend to run premade modules and so I prefer a chessex mat. alot of time there are super narrow areas that are easier to must mark on a big mat. I have like 3 sets of tiles I never use :/

I hear ya, I’m always rotating terrain depending on the encounter 😅🎲🗡️ nothing beats a hand drawn map 🙌🏻 but maybe that’s the best thing is having options 💪🏻

New DM, when setting up a table do you place the tiles down for you PCs to see or place them one by one as they enter those rooms?

I do a mix of both, if the session is starting in a dungeon crawl or anything that makes sense for them to see the layout I’ll get it ready before hand. And other times I like to build as they explore 👍🏻 especially if they are just entering a dungeon. keeps them guessing and kind of acts like a fog of war so they can’t meta game the layout of a dungeon. That works too! I’m personally not a big fan of drawing my maps. I like that I can throw the tiles down as they uncover the dungeon 👍🏻🎲🗡️ but all work just as well, comes down to personal preference 🙌🏻

Yeah if you’re getting all rambunctious with your minis I guess they could move around. But for the cost it’s a good option 🎲🗡️👍🏻
