Good to see one quoting Treasure Planet, loved that movie growing up and even saw it in the cinema. Still love the movie to be fair, Disney did it dirty.

The Spin-the-Axe gave me the WORST high school flashbacks where some dudes thought spraying themselves head to toe in the stuff was a substitute for showering. I was running through the hallways between classes like a WW1 soldier trying to run from mustard gas in the trenches.

That breaking the 4th wall and messing with initiative one... I have some mixed feelings, yeah it can be dramatic and maybe in the right situations, but you gotta be playing with a group that is cool with you doing stuff like that. What's more, I got tired of playing a game where I kept going last cause of bad initiative rolls and so the following campaign I actually put together a character who gets so many bonuses to initiative that even on a bad roll they were probably going middle of the pack, and regularly would go first before everyone and get their assassinate ability off reliably on some enemy.

I could see it working if you made it make sense thematically, like if the party's fighting a trickster god or a reality manipulator.

I like it, of course if the players are ok with it, because it shows the force the players are going against. Having a enemy that can break reality in their favor is scary for roleplay and combat focus players alike and gets everyone one on the same page about how powerful this person is.
