Thanks for the review... made my decision easy and I bought the game mainly to use the minis in the D&D adventure.

I know I'm writing this 2 years after the fact, but; If I bought the painted minis, I would spray them with a matt finish (they're all too shiny) , then use the Citadel washes to get into the crevasses to bring out the details and give the a final coat of matt finish to prevent the minis from chipping.

I love how they are mishmashing old characters from old storylines. Dragonbait comes from the old Azure Bonds storyline that was around in the 80s. Many of the other characters are featured on the current Neverwinter mmo, who also plucks alot of it's npcs from storylines past. Cant wait till they make a set that includes Minsc and his mighty companion the space hamster boo! I think my favorites are the Arakokra and the Tabaxi. In fact I need to get this set just because one of my games player characters is one. Of course I would have to get the unpainted set so I could paint the Arakokra Bald Eagle style! The painted version is not bad though. A bit of a wash would really pop out the detail and give them a finished look. Thanks for doing this video, you guys have your ears open to your fans. My wife and I are power nerds too so it's fun to watch you two interact. We don't feel so alone now. Lol. Subscribed.

Metalpanzerwolf there is a minsc and boo mini. There also is a bald eagle style aaracokra. Minsc n boo are in tomb of annihilation and the aaracokra is in tyranny of dragons and also available in a six pack from attack wing. You're welcome

They already included Mincs in a previous hardcover adventure.

Many of the hero's share a very similar color palette...as well as villains.....a lot of gradations of green. I'm glad you're happy, but imho the pre-paint job is 'meh at best. I'll definitely be painting myself. I really feel they missed opportunities to highlight more details and make aspects pop by the limited color range, few wash aspects and highlight effects. One or more contrasting colors on some of the accessories would have gone a long way.

Nice review, those Velociraptors are just about the proper size compared to a medium fig. Velociraptors were roughly the size of a large turkey, the dinos from Jurassic Park were contrary to what the movie said actually Deinonychus.

They're pretty nice. I'm a fan.

It is embarrassing how bad these models are, compared to what's on the market. Wizards needs to do us a solid and get real about miniatures. FFS FFG is putting out better models than they are.

Check out game workshop if you seek quality. Warhammer makes good proxies for dnd, pathfinder and others. Is expensive though.

I picked this set up when Miniature Market sold it as the Deal of the Day! Great set.

Thanks for the review - really useful. Like some of the other comments, I'm not overly impressed (especially with the ones revealing the join gaps). However, also like others, I have such a backlog of minis to paint that it'd probably be next century before I could get round to these *sighs* hence, these will do!

Could you perhaps use a smaller aperture next time? Would make it easier to see all the details

It seems a lot of players are springing for the premium painted edition. And this is a good look at them. It's nice to have color in these games. otherwise they have chosen some nice plain solid plastic colors throughout the series. The WotC old 3.5 pre-4e D&D RPG era miniatures game (I have a lot) and Dungeon Command minis (I have Curse of Undeath works great with Ravenloft, and Blood of Gruumsh) look better have much more detail in the sculpts and paint overall than these ToA. (Blood of Gruumsh Orcs tend to be a bit too 'cartoony' exagerated though). The DC games come with bonus stat cards for the adventure system. they have more filled in paint detail or the washes of black style to make them pop. the plastic feels better and more solid. these WizKids seem a bit cheap in comparison overall. I prefer the D&D miniatures game pieces overall fwiw The ToA Juggeraunt's Inca/Myan style detail, the colors of Asharra's wings and clear armature, and I'd agree Acererak is my favorite too are nice. The Lich Necromancer is Curse of Undeath is similar. Faces almost identical. I guess it's a requirement for Lich's lol I'd agree you can't go wrong with skeletons. for whatever reason they just work. and can accessorize ; I'd have to say I don't like Bards at all. But this one springs past traps so OK. I'd keep the Hero that I controlled in the game on another tile lol I normally think it's a cop out, uninventive, and boring to make characters or monsters from real life animals. but sometimes they work. Some of the previous adventure system game molds are from the old minis game. some had the same or others had different names. I have so many of the minis game and still not nearly all of them(!) that I need to do adventure system stat cards for them one of these days. I have a Gelatinous Cube you can pop open to put several minis in. The ToA is a 180deg in Hero and Monster types from the norm I didn't like at first but I got to like them. the Jungle theme, town, and dungeon is a nice touch. I'm waiting for Darksun but the'd have to adapt that setting for the 5e D&D RPG to crossover before they'd want to do that imho. I wish they had a Teifling Warlock or Hexblade in the previous games. I'll have to make my own based on 4e D&D RPG powers ; Overall these minis are fine for a splash of color. But a step down from WotC previous minis. still I'd probably recommend springing for the ToA premium edition also. I used the painted minis in Ravenloft recently and it looked more engaging. imho & fwiw

Nice review! Thank you! It seems the best way to get cool looking minis is to save 80$ for painting them yourself (or let good painters do their job).

Hi. You guys should probably manually dial in your camera for these close ups. If this was done on AUTO, the iris is way too open, so the detail is blown out by too much light and the focus is all over the shop. Ditch the AUTO. It will make a much better picture 😊

wow, I have seen better paint jobs done by 2 year old. That being said, it still beats having to paint them, there are a lot of them. My set is unpainted and some are badly warped or bent, so the advantage I have I can reshape them without worry of the paint coming off, just dip them in warm or hot water for a few minutes and let them cool in proper pose, but do not recommend that for painted figures. Also, the detail is really bad on these for the price.. just my 2 cents. For those that are going to paint, a air paint will be faster and a nuln oil will do wonders.
