@NEAR_Photo18 күн бұрын
I don’t know if you realize this, but your process of problem-solving different components of the nuke itself (and its launch system) mirrors, almost one for one, the actual process of nuclear bomb development in the 40s/50s and subsequent ICBM development in the 60s/70s! Everything from developing an electric powered detonator (X Unit), to launcher development beginning with horizontal/pivoting launch platforms (Atlas) and then moving to vertical silos (Titan & Minute Man) for simplicity, cost reduction, and reliability! Even a sort of PAL (Permissive Action Link) with the briefcase. Crazy to watch this unfold!

I love this, but as a 3d designer, i have a suggestion, turn up the resolution on your STL export, it will remove the faceting you are getting on round surfaces. That typically isnt the fault of the 3D printer, unless you have your slicer configured in some weird way. I battled this in solidworks, thinking my printer had low resolution. the setting is usually for arc/segment legth, and overal number of triangles depending on your software
@spartan528018 күн бұрын
Insted of STLs its better to just use STEP files as most modern slicers can use them. Since STEP files are based on math and not triangles they print perfect cerves without any faceting.
@CheshireSwift18 күн бұрын
Alternatively, there's tools like Arc Welder that help turn near-curves back into actual curve instructions (but just preserving the original curve is preferable).
@MumrikDK18 күн бұрын
Yeah, this always confuses me when I download other people's STLs - there's no reason to export at low resolution. I just use the highest custom settings Fusion360 will allow and the files are still very manageable.
@JamesThomas-tl8vy18 күн бұрын
Yeah, noticed too, good advice!
@SOHCHEAD18 күн бұрын
@@spartan5280depends on the STL, I use STEPs for everything going into Orca but there’s still a conversion that happens when generating gcode that can lead to faceting. A higher quality STL is still one of your best options for a print, I just prefer STEP as it has significantly more data and is far easier to export from f360 etc. I’m getting more into blender though which is making that less relevant. The A1 line has a single gear driven extruder that helps with VFA compared to the X/P series. I have both and it is a significant issue with my X1 between the belt tension system and the extruder leading to VFA at lower speeds. Faceting is definitely an issue with any printer on low poly models. If anyone here hasn’t, I HIGHLY recommend trying OrcaSlicer

That last second was perfect xD Your message about challenges is honestly something I need right now. I intentionally challenged myself to go back to college for basically all the things that I struggled with during my first time through (and just decided I'm bad at) - Math and coding. Sometimes it feels like it's not worth it given how AI is growing in those sectors and the fact that my demographics work against me as far as getting a job in cybersecurity (my focus). But proving it to myself that I can do this is why I started and even when it's hard, it feels amazing to persevere and prove my younger self wrong.

Amazing. When it finally worked I yelled out loud involuntarily. What I'd like to see: a lid on the silo that looks more cold-war-silo-ish, maybe two halves that swing open with a riveted steel or industrial concrete look (wouldn't need to be actual steel or concrete). I'd like to hear some radio-chatter sound effects like launch instructions or something that play as the switches/pots are activated - like a checklist for each setting on the way to pressing the button. A shoulder launcher would be pretty cool; there also needs to be some way to stealth the silo (the real ones are buried after all) otherwise who is going to be in the same room with it, and you want that room containing as many enemy as possible. Again, great project.

I am glad you didn't quit. Engineering is often more about persevering through seemingly impossible challenges than anything else.

I really appreciate KZbinrs like you. Thank you for expressing your inner 5 year old through engineering so that we all can be edified 🤓 and it's pretty awesome that you can provide for your family by doing zanny projects like these. Way to go!

loved seeing this finally work, my vote for improvement would defiantly be a shoulder launcher like the ones in the fallout games.

These two videos were so cool. Your design aesthetic for both the bomb and the briefcase are so awesome, with that perfect blue and orange extreme look. As much as I'd love to see a shoulder mounted version, what I really want is just to see this thing be set off "in the field", outside in a park in the middle of a nerf war, with a bunch of people shooting nerf guns at each other. With some dramatic editing showing the turning of the keys and switches etc.

Oh my god. The amount of science and engineering happening in this project is insane. This guy is doing hundreds of thousands of dollars in product development work for youtube videos! Thank you.

@17:30 I bet the problems are due to temperature differences. You tested in a warm indoor environment and the garage here is colder. Thus causing some metal parts to contract.

That inspirational speech at the end was very much needed. I am suffering some pretty significant health issues at this point in my frankly really young life and all I can do is face them. I have decided to neglect to face so many of the other challenges of regular life thrown at me in favour of being not risk adverse. I have been trying to pick my battles when I really do not have a choice. This has inspired me to not only be a better man but a better Christian. Thank you. Also yes pls on 3d printed housing and fallout style mini-nuke launcher
