Magus was a take on D&D 3.5's Class Duskblade. It's a shame they never ported it up to 5e.

I completely agree that it sucks we didn’t see it ported over. I’d have even settled for the 4e spellblade class getting ported over and both the duskblade and hexblade being its subclasses.

The origins of the Magus can be seen in the Duskblade from 3.5e, but you have to hand it Paizo for taking that concept and refining it and making it so much better in PF.

Been playing an Inexorable Iron Magus since last year and it is the most satisfying gish experience I've had after years of trying to accomplish it in 5e. Being able to swing a big sword that cuts through enemies while a lightning bolt shocks through a line all at once is so damn cool. Just don't miss because you're only ever gonna get 1 strike a turn 90% of the time I've found :)

Funnily enough the Magus' origins are in a class from 3.5 - the Duskblade from the PHB2. Both it and the PF1e Magus had the same main gimmick of delivering touch-ranged spells via a weapon strike. Paizo just refined it when adapting it to PF1e and 2e's version got changed further while still retaining that core mechanical concept.

Magus delivering spells with attacks and Summoner being both caster and martial in separate bodies are very interesting interepretations of the gish characters. That said, Paladins are the closest to Magus in PF2e, if you trade their spell list to be more close to the Wizard's list

I only started learning Pathfinder last summer so I haven't had the opportunity to play many characters, but until the official Elementalist releases, my astrologist gnome bow-wielding Magus is 100% the character I'm *most* excited to play. Knowing how you feel about gishes, I'm excited to see what you do with a Magus yourself :)

I’m so ecstatic for this. I LOVE the magus. I’m been a fan of spell blade gishes since my 3.5 days and the duskblade. The magus scratches that itch nicely in PF 1e and 2e.

The fact that the Magus and Arcane Archer have unique actions which operate in a different way to just making a strike, or the castaspella activity goes a long way toward making them feel different from a Fighter with a free archetype in Wizard. I feel like the classes are in some ways more distinct, particularly since you can’t quite blend them with 5e-like multiclassing. Maybe that’s just “the grass is greener” but it’s an impression I have about PF2e right now.

Honestly kinda wish Magus in PF2E had the option for Charisma Spellcasting, and/or Primal/Occult/Divine Spells to fill in remaining gaps for people who want to transfer from 5E. Would kinda help those fantasies of Paladins, Swarmkeeper, or Hexblade at least a little bit. Not one-to-one but at least leaning into that expressive fantasy. Would that be a bit much when also giving a hybrid study? Maybe, but with Psychic and Thaumaturge kinda providing pockets of Classes I can see it there. I can even see an argument of Champion *kinda* getting three facets to express (cause, divine ally, domain). I’d maybe like to see something like the PF2E class archetypes down the road where it swaps out fundamental class progression and features but otherwise treats it as the same class.
@KevinVideo
@KevinVideo Жыл бұрын
I didn’t realize the PF2E doesn’t allow for Charisma yet. The PF1E version of the magus has an archetype that lets you use Cha instead of Int, as well as another that could use druid spells. Hopefully, eventually, PF2E will be able to replicate that. The magus is still a newer class.

I remember in Diablo 2 I had a legendary dagger with four gem slots and I had four legendary emeralds socketed into it, not only did it apply a god tier level of acid damage but it had a 35% chance to emit a 365% radius of acid that puddled on the ground within a 15 foot Square.

So I played a Magus for my first play of pf2e and it is kind of rough honestly it takes up a lot of actions to do the spell strikes you often have to choose between moving and spell striking and if you fight anything higher level you fail or crit fail your spells a lot it can be pretty feel bad, I don't recommend it if you are at all new to the system, maybe save it for your 4th or 5th+ character. (I played the staff variant, I think it would have been better to try a different option since most of the cool stuff came on too late with the staff)
@Jk-zv6tz
@Jk-zv6tz Жыл бұрын
Yeah this video short is of someone who has not played a Magus yet. They are clunky, and the action economy to even spellstrike is so stifled with every other action you need to do to get it going, most of the time you'll finally get to the target, spellstrike once, miss, and that's the entire combat for you.

I love your content, and I have a question for you. With your recent exploration into PF2 due to the shake up over the OGL. It was a community out reach to stand their grounds. Could I suggest expanding your dnd content to 3rd party? That way you could also support 3rd partys for dnd, and still explore pf2. Kobalt press, ghost fire gaming, frog god gaming, and Taldorei to name a few. I know it maybe a tall task to ask, but I feel it could offer you a lot alternative flavors out there that could refresh your mind on multi-classing and optimizing. All the while cross promoting 3rd party creators that would incentivize players and dms to expand their collection and what is allowed at tables. 😅 I appreciate all your hard work, can’t wait for the next video!

I started playing PF first dip into caster I attempted a melee debuffing cleric which was fun. Then I tried witch next campaign after our DM suggested it and man did I love it but I missed being part of the action and really stuck to debuffing from ranged. Then I found the hexcrafter magus and omg it’s the best of both worlds. I’d suggest if you are doing high level longer campaigns taking a few levels of assassin after you pick up fighter feats from magus progression, you can have tons of fun if you have rogue in your party for some awesome twist and turns.

I've always thought that the magus in 2e is a burst damage one hit wonder that needs to crit fish for maximum effect. Crit fishing either requires help from your team or multiple turns. (Crit fishing in Pathfinder second edition involves distributing penalties and bonuses.) This is a lot of fun, but is it optimal?

imo pf2e does this better due to the spellcasting feats scaling your casting dcs and giving you 3 actions to play with. so even without considering the magus, pf2e does this better even with lets say a simple ranger + sorc dedication. without haste, this simple setup allows you to attack 2x (twin takedown/hunted shot) and throw a lightning bolt, fear, illusory creature, etc. and for kicks, their animal companion gets a strike in via mature companion. this is not possible in 5e without haste along with needing to align your attack/cast stat via hexblade/battlesmith.

Playing Pathfinder 2e atm. Each week, honestly the game is boring. Classes, boring, 3 action economy, boring. Oh and I'm playing a Magus. They are boring. Cast spell. Arcane cascade. Run over, one action. Spell strike, attack again, or move. It's VERY boring to play.
