I have all three and you get everything you need in terms of minis for low level adventuring - wolves, spiders, goblins, kobolds, orcs, skeletons, bears, zombies and of course all the PC characters - clerics, fighters, wizards and thieves. Not to mention Ashardalon, the balor, the dracolich and even a mindflayer, Solid investment even if you don't play the actual board game.

Totally agree with you!

We play these with the house rule of ignoring the "draw an encounter if you don't reach a tile edge" rule. Even then, these games can be extremely difficult.

I am looking to expand our gaming collection beyond "common" board games, and these have made the short list. Is it worth getting all 3? Which one would you recommend getting first? I think the minis and tiles would be good for Pathfinder as well, and I'm considering picking up the Pathfinder Beginners Box as part of our collection. Any input on these D&D boxed games would be great! Other games on the list include Carcassonne, Munchkin, Tsuro, Castle Panic, Star Flux, Chez Geek, Dungeon!, Bears, Martian Dice, Ninja Dice (just got Zombie Dice and love it), Pandemic, Star Trek Catan, and a few other of the more common games we don't have yet, but would be easy to find at most department stores. Any other great games I should look into while we whittle down our not-so-short list?

Rod and Tim really like these three games and I am sure would recommend them. The only other game you mentioned that I have experience with is Pandemic, Carcassonne, and Star Trek Catan. I just did a review of Pandemic The Cure (The dice version) and I have a review of Carcassonne South Seas. I recommend them both. Star Trek Catan is good if you like Catan and like Star Trek. I have it in my collection but am not 100% sold on keeping it. Hope that helps!

boardgamecloset Thanks for the reply, I will have to decide which of the D&D games to pick up first, it may depend on what the stores near me have on hand. Carcassonne and Pandemic are both still on the short list, and we don't have Catan, but we like Star Trek. Dungeon! will be for getting new people into dungeon themed games, and for playing with kiddos. The others I mentioned are still on my list, what I've seen of them on KZbin looks good. Let me know if there are any others that I should look at? Thanks again for the reply! Keep shining....

+Isaiah Furrow There's a newer one called Temple of Elemental Evil that I would recommend over any of the others. It uses the new 5th edition rules and some of the mechanics just work better. They definitely improved as they made each game. But each game is good on its own. It really just depends on which bad guys you like to fight. Ravenloft = Vampire, Ashardalon = Dragon, Drizzt = Drow, Elemental Evil = Elementals

I love the D&D boardgames series. I bought all the boardgames and then collected all the D&D Dungeon command series as well. It's all compatible and makes for a huge expandable game-play experience and the minis are great. Combining all the minis from all the D&D boardgames gives you so much to work with when playing D&D. The worst entry into the series is the D&D dungeon command:Tyranny of Goblins. As a standalone faction, they just suck! But that's a different game all together. If there is only one game you get, get the Legend of Drizzit.

Hi there…. What do you do at the end of an adventure? Items and gold? To you keep those for the next?
@bigsarge19822 ай бұрын
In these three versions (4edition) you level during the game by rolling a natural 20 and depending 5 xp.. you don't carry anything over into the next adventure but you do get a treasure at the start of the game. In the newer games you level by spending gold in town after the adventure and you get gold a lot as treasures; but you don't get a treasure at the start. So basically, in the older ones, you just go to the next adventure.

Is Gravestorm missing from your Castle Ravenloft set? I would ask for a refund if that's the case. I've heard of some games missing pieces. Like orc miniatures missing from Wrath of Ashardalon and such...

Don't know if you guys heard, but there is another one of these. WotC licensed the D&D Adventure System to WizKids and they produced Dungeons & Dragons: Temple of Elemental Evil. Haven't played it but my understanding is that it added some cool new additions.
