I *love* gnomes!! I had a rock gnome Battlesmith Artificer, who rode around on his steel defender battle chicken. Despite trying to be a salesman, he usually ended up pissing NPC’s off because he was loud and very direct for such a little guy. He was also low Wisdom and didn’t pay attention to his surroundings. If we had to keep watch during a rest, he never volunteered and would instead put his battle chicken in nest mode and it would open up its belly and squat down on him like a hen on her nest while he slept. The other characters hated but tolerated him, but the players loved him and, when the campaign ended, thanked me for the role playing. That poor gnome got so many curses and debuffs throughout the campaign…lol…It required a lot of rescuing!

I’ve played a gnome and that was mainly because in our dm’s campaign only gnomes can be artificers. I played an artillerist artificer and it was fun blasting creatures. I was even able to go inside of a golem and control it from the inside.

Forest gnome druid is one of my go-to character setups, usually I blow the 4th level optional feat on one of the ways to get a familiar (since the druid temp familiar optional rule is time gated and uses wild shape charges).

I could never put myself into the head-space of a little race. Until high school, I could place my chin easily on top of the next tallest person in my age group's head. At 6'3" I'm still above average, though by no means 'freakishly' tall.

The only reason I would play a Rock Gnome is if Artificer was banned. It's nice that they make toys. But yeah, definitely an Arcane Trickster. Artificer Lore bypasses traditional expertise. You don't need Proficiency in History to have Expertise, which usually requires Proficiency.

My PLAYERS (not the characters) all hate gnomes because I had one screw them over one time lol. Ever since then, it's the genocide urge in every campaign when they even SEE a gnome.

LOL annoying is a word alright many campaigns have all the other races find the presents of a gnome as a pest or an annoying 2 year old since gnomes are topicly carefree individuals with a strong sense of humor as well as being kinda backwards sometimes especially when it comes to gnome magic if you want chaos in your party be a gnome

Vedalken from Ravnica have a stronger version of Gnome cunning. Yuan Ti magic resistance is also stronger than Gnome cunning. There are also other races that can start with cantrips, even those with far more options than just minor illusion. Gnomes are good but their slow movement speed and their weaker versions of abilities other races have makes them not problematic at all in my opinion. +being small is sometimes a weakness. Basically there are other races in DnD far more potent than Gnomes if you dig deep enough.

Oh absolutely correct. It just bothers me that sometimes your pleading to play those species, and though gnome cunning is weaker, there is still not an eyelash bashed in there regard
