Some sound advice. Finding a way to make my world feel alive and part of the players lives is what I keep striving for. I have one of my players that gives me something (anything, tbh) with a backstory to fold into my homebrew campaign. It makes things tougher to have tie ins and plot hooks if you can’t create an occasional link between an npc, or bad guy to any of your players. So, I’m doing my best to create some links and a connected story with the npc’s they encounter. They seem to care about rescuing a lost (captured) druid, and are close to a major plot hook. Hopefully coming soon.
@TheSinisterheroes17 сағат бұрын
In situations where your players don’t give you anything to build upon, what I like to do is make some of the villains a rival to that player. You have a monk let’s say, have a villain personally take An interest in them, and use that to hurt them. Maybe he finds out what tradition or monastery they trained at, and send them the scalp of the person who ran it. Use that to bait and goad them. I find that really really gets them going.

Huzzah! My brother and i are playing a 2-person game where he and i are two grung brothers. We are a moon druid and world tree barbarian, using the gimmick of being a mount and rider. He has the mounted combatant feat and i am using sentinel. Were 5th level currently. We just swapped from being a monk and rogue duo (2014) to the new stuff. We haven't had a session yet with the 2024 builds, but we've got some crazy synergy with the pair. Theoretically, so far. Lol. Let's see how it goes!
@TheSinisterheroesКүн бұрын
I love brother characters! The synergy seems there. Though you gotta be careful with how you maneuver around, cus you gotta move where the mount goes basically, so your strategies have to be in sync. Out side of that it should work
@GrorlКүн бұрын
@TheSinisterheroes indeed. I found that the barbarian having the alert feat synergieses well as it allows me as the druid to go first. One particular tactic for that instance is I change shape and ready my movement for when the brother mounts up and I move into combat. Of course, we don't play in a vacuum, so tactics are indeed a big part of our dynamic. We have other things we can do if they don't pop off immediately. Like the new find familiar is capable of being a medium vulture. So, brother can have a flying mount and protect it with the mounted combatant feat for free, as taking a hit for the mount doesn't cost anything.
@TheSinisterheroes15 сағат бұрын
Be careful when using flying mounts, they have weight issues. If there strength is low they won’t be able to lift you because people forget it’s your weight plus your gear. Also the opportunity to aoe a familiar that’s carrying a playing is too good to be true. I think you guys have a good concept going on. Make sure you discuss it with your dm, especially considering your intention to attack as the mount.

@TheSinisterheroesКүн бұрын
I really like the loxodon. Depending on what you would go for subclass wise would be really interesting. Personally I think fighter is a lot more fun, as there subclasses really have a lot of variety. Where as the Paladin really doesn’t change much between the subclasses.

I enjoy playing my Dex and charisma based air genasi fighter/warlock with a background of dancer, now level 3 fighter battlemaster and level 3 djinni genie warlock with pact of the blade. No armor or weapon needed. Fighting style at first level was superior technique: commanding presence
@TheSinisterheroesКүн бұрын
That is an interesting combination. Why did you go warlock? Have you considered just being an eldritch knight?
@dominicleclerc1343Күн бұрын
@ I seriously considered it but since I probably wont level up anymore as a fighter I preferred the short rest dynamic that battlemaster and warlock give. Booming blade can really combo well with pushing attack, or parry with armor of agathys. Furthermore, warlocks don’t get a lot but do get high level spells. And the genie warlock gives you true flight at level 6, limited wish and wish eventually. Creating weapons as needed is also such fun, her thunderwhip coated with booming energy attacking at 10’ is her fav.

Well, I gave in and played my first barbarian at AL yesterday. A bugbear path of the giant, with a glaive. Once I figured out the math for damage, it was fun. Seriously, until I wrote it all out in my notebook, I was kind of lost. Always forgetting something. So at lvl 14, I can be huge size. (3x3 squares) and have a 25’ reach with a glaive when I attack, and 20’ reaction attack with my glaive. I had no idea the weapons grow and the damage dice increases…

Actually, Rabbit hop doesn't consume movement, Jeremy Crawford confirmed it, it adds to your movement, so no jump rule application in this specifc case, that said, i created a Harengon Barbarian, way of the beast, Got Boots of Stride and Springin and Ring of Jumping, skill expert in Athletism then the battle went as following: I grappled 2 enemies, then i used my bonus action to jump to the sky, 15 fts + 27 (from lvl 6 beast barbarian jump perk) 3x then multiply by 3 again = i slammed two enemies from 378ft high for 37d6 and a whooping Meteor Bunny title, worth lol

Honestly I simply just winged it my first time being a DM if I'm being honest but that's simply because I know that it's impossible to make a session go exactly how you planned it because I myself have unintentionally done that for example my first time playing D&D as a player I played a necromancer wizard high elf named carric who I accidentally made into an unintentional pyromaniac literally every single major location had something on fire there was a bridge in a cave that I unintentionally set on fire with a sphere of fire which was actually a good thing because the goblins would have flooded the cave if I didn't so happy accident, there was also a tavern that my zombies unintentionally set on fire because my dumbass told them to continue their normal routine they had in life there was a mansion that was set on fire but that wasn't even my fault that time that was the Pseudo dragons fault because the fighter I had in my party wanted to burn the place, there was also a wryvern and a tower full of zombies which i intentionally set on fire and finally there was a Fucking fortress i set on fire accidentally because I set a shrine to a goblin god on fire which the fire got out of hand instantly but it did kill a weird worm monster that no one knew about except for the DM of course and my DM gave me the unintentional pyromaniac 7 free fireballs which i promptly used to Kamikaze myself trying to kill a rakshasha which i didn't know was immune to fire damage so i wasted all 7 fire balls trying to nuke the BBEG in one turn and all that happened was I blow up both me and the cleric healer (I was playing both the wizard and the healer cleric at the time) but luckily my brother clutched with the win in the end

I like there being room for non-genie related reasons for them being genasi. For example, they were near a surge of elemental power or something as a child and it transformed them or they were blessed by priests of elemental gods when a baby or something (Kossuth, Amaunator, Horus-Re etc - in Forgotten Realms).
@TheSinisterheroes5 күн бұрын
I can’t see a reason for a dm to not accept that. I personally am very attached to the lore of dungeons and dragons. So I tend to make characters from that point of view, but the purpose of a character is to be someone you want to be in that setting. If it’s not fun for you to follow the lore as tightly as I do, then you owe it to your self not to. In D&D there is magical plane touched entities everywhere. They all break into the material plane for what ever reason they see fit. To say it can’t happen is impossible in my mind. Plus depending of what class you would select that’s a great tie in. Personally I see a lot of cleric warlock, and Paladin maybe. It fits a story for a main character.

Take the noble background and just find some suitable art. Really the art is the hardest part. One thing to keep in mind is depending on your dm and the campaign you’re gonna be in. I think a session zero is a necessary thing to do if you want to tie your party closer together or you want to have players and or DM who are new to each other to get a feel of those individuals so I do think it's very helpful but it's only necessary under specific circumstances because it's a useful tool to prevent a D&D horror story from happening at the table it doesn't always work but it's useful to help prevent or minigate the backlash

I think it dose a good job for creating parties. I think there is a significant betterment of creating characters as a group as opposed to making them before you even know the campaign.
@alexboggs641613 күн бұрын
My Dm and i made a deal. I would never raise more than 6 undead and in return the undead i do raise can be more powerful. For instance i can raise a CR 1/4 pair of zombies or a CR 1/2 undead of another kind. I can also upcast my animate dead and create undead spells to further this effect.

So a 9th level "Animate Dead" can raise an undead of CR 6 or multiple undead of varying CRs

here’s a concept: everyone involved would have to agree to this, but what if the chaotic evil character was “unwillingly” restrained in some way by the other party members, and only let loose to cause havoc like a tasmanian devil when necessary. so YOU can be as feral as you want and the lawful boundaries are being enforced externally. or to incorporate the Joker example, it’s like when Batman asks the (imprisoned) Joker for help solving a clue left by the Riddler, i.e. being a useful villain for the party

Players are always going to do something out of what you expect to happen so if they bypass an encounter you had planned, save it for another part of the campaign. Let your player’s choices affect the world but make sure that npc’s do the same to make your world feel alive. Finally have fun, your enjoyment is just as important as the players.
