I don’t know anyone who’s played this subclass but this feels more like an infiltrator than a pickpocket. If the supreme sneak ability gave you advantage on sleight of hand checks than it would be more of thief.

I agree it dose need something. It’s just how can you compare this to the other two classes from the phb to be fair it dosent stand a chance against anything after.

Im playing as a Yuan Ti 4 rogue thief, 2 druid shepherd in a heist campaign Having a climbing speed is amazing And a thief doesnt just climb at 30 feet a second, they climb at a rate of 30, 60, or 90 feet a second depending on how many actions they dash with Im taking the mobile feat, and will sometimes cast longstrider (1st level spell +10 feet movement, lasts an hour, takes no concentration) So she will climb 40, 80, 120 feet a round With mobile and longstrider thats 50, 100, 150 feet a round Thieves can run up walls much much faster than non rogues can run on the ground And with mobile, difficult terrain doesn't cost extra movement when you dash on your turn, which is just your bonus action And all her wild shapes have a climbing speed, have +10 movement speed, disengage automatically from melee attacks and the wild shapes can dash on a bonus action Thief is amazing if you're playing a heist campaign, and you need to break into a building by climbing into an open window 50 metres up You are a literal anime ninja, and dnd is now a platforming game There are melee enemies swamping you? Just run up the top of a building and shoot your short bow You can always get away, and are very survivable

The biggest issue with this class is mage hand legendermain does everything fast hands does and the rogue isn’t the one doing it so it’s sneakier

Yes I agree it just doesn’t really give you any insensitive.

@@TheSinisterheroesOkay, I'm pretty late to this and while tbf that seems like it's the case, Fast Hands has a lot more; for one, it means you can Rob people in combat. Since Mage Hand is still an action, the AT would have to give up an attack to do so (ignoring metamagic shenanigans, which requires a feat). Plus, the Thief Rogue can also stabilise allies as a bonus action (healer's kit, which is even better with the healer feat), turn a small area of the battlefield into difficult terrain (caltrops, ball bearings), throw pocket sand into the eyes, flip a table for emergency cover, steal the spellcaster's component pouch AND stab them at the same time, etc. plus it doesn't lock you into a specific stat like AT with Int, allowing more room for Feats or grabbing whatever stats and skills for Flavor you want

I'm playing a 4th lvl thief rouge in a short campaign and have got a lot of milage out of "use an object" as a bonus action with caltrops, marbles and a Rope of Entanglement. Access to actual cantrips and magic could be better on paper with an arcane trickster, but I'm having fun and I think my DM likes the concept as well

There’s this comment on this video about a build that uses alchemist fire and acid vials you need to check it out it will blow your mind and give you some serious ideas that’s right along what your doing

Thief rogue suffered from 2 major features: 1: Dms did not know how much gold and items to give out way back when it came out. 2: They suffered from misunderstanding for how the features interact.
@TheSinisterheroes5 ай бұрын
Yes I agree. It seems like this was more so an homage to previous rogues. Especially considering all the items that are based around the features the thief gains.

The thief is probably a classic when considering anti villain archetype characters the first thing that comes to mind for me when talking about a thief rogue anti villain is Catwoman and and easy way of doing that is playing as a tabaxi rogue thief subclass character concept and if you don't want to be n anti villain character but a hero instead then Bilbo bagins and frodo Bagins from lord of the rings and the Hobbit movies are also a great example for a thief rogue and simply a halfling rogue thief subclass will do great with that concept as well

They are that quintessential fantasy class. They are usually a favorite of mine. I am a sucker for duel wielding daggers, and a stealth mechanic. I just feel like 5e has evolved to a point where that traditional thief is just not enough. There should be some sort of additional trick to them.
@douglaspope-gz1eq10 ай бұрын
@@TheSinisterheroes TBH you could say the same for an additional trick thing for most subclasses but this is true for the thief especially

I think some ppl forget that some sub- classes are best for a low magic experience.
@TheSinisterheroes10 ай бұрын
I can see that being the case, but now you are in a head to head with the assassin. Personally I find the assassin better. I have a soft spot for the thief, I do. Though it feels like it just needs something else or it’s missing something.

@TheSinisterheroes one of my fave PCs that I played was a Thief/ Alchemist...doesn't rate well as a Optimized Power Gamer but it was fun as hell. Stealthing around dropping Grease on the floor and setting up snare traps was awesome

Unfortunately, per Sage Advice, the Thief can't use Fast Hands to activate a magic item because that's a separate action: _"Can a thief use the Fast Hands feature to activate a magic item? No. One of the benefits of Fast Hands is being able to take the Use an Object action as a bonus action, but using a magic item doesn’t fall under Use an Object, as explained in the Dungeon Master’s Guide (see "Activating an Item"). In contrast, using a nonmagical item, such as a healer’s kit, is in the domain of Use an Object."_ However, the 2024 version of the Thief coming out later this year will allow both Use an Object and the Magic Action (for magic items) with Fast Hands!

I am aware I kinda planed on doing it that way cus people seeing this may want to check it out once one D&D comes out, also I usually rule of cool it to being ok.

I’ve never played or seen this subclass played, people always say other classes subclasses or spells can replicate all of its abilities

Thieves are awesome because while Arcane Trickster gain Spellcasting, you can cast from any Spellscroll. You can play with this as trying to learn Mage Hand, and failed as Wizard & also Artificer... you still were an Expert in Arcana. Having ditched those paths and even failed an attempt at Arcane Trickster's Mage Hand, descended into petty thievery. Eventually, having some cross magical items in your heists, you knew just enough to use it. P.S. You also make for a great doctor with the Healer Feat with Healing Kits as well as medicines and drugs. Turns out it was easier on the wallet than crafting your own Healing Potion or Experimental Elixirs.
@TheSinisterheroes10 ай бұрын
Oh really? Thats something I never would have thought of. I always tend to neglect the common items. I play with someone who makes great work out of those.

@@TheSinisterheroes Don't forget bombs, alchemist fires, and Acid. You're an item master. That tickles my fancy all day, every day. Caltrops, torches, oil flasks, traps. Yeah. It's fun. Imagine what a bar of soap could do other than keeping clean.
