Going for full effect on this one. Also, a milestone! 200 Videos on this channel. Crazy! On this video I touch upon an upcoming event this weekend in Conneaut, Ohio. That is D-Day Ohio. I give a shout out to all of you and those I have met in person, and then we touch base on an old rant and come swinging in for 2.0, because ONE of you, I know it was you. YES YOU! You, right there! Yes, you decided to be cheeki breeki. It was funny. It was cheeki. It was definitely breeki. But still wrong. ;)
Jacob Scott will be taking Soldbuch pictures and allied paperwork pictures this year. Come see him at the 2nd Panzer camp on the upper pavilion. He does great work and the FJ pictures you saw at the beginning of this video are all his work. He uses original equipment and material and you will be satisfied.

I delayed my arrival until the evening when I saw the line of storms coming through the state. So, I stayed dry. ;) Lol.

HkSniper Me and my CO were coming up from North Carolina. We couldn't delay our arrival lol. I think we got there at around 5:30. So we had time to set up our 8 man zelt. But then the monsoon came. We were in the Heer camp right across from the SDKFZ 222 and right next to the extremely out of place hot dog vendor lol.

Thanks for bringing up the kneeling thing. This hobby is why I wanted to learn German. I agree 100% with your rant on kneeling and learning German. All the photos I've seen, and those you've shown here, only show POWs standing or sitting. All this detail helps us as reenactors. Keep it up!

WARNING for people who want a close up video of the German 88 Anti-Aircraft Fire Cannon in operation, it might blow your speakers. Also please don't run out onto the battle grounds after the battle has ended to collect blank shells until security allows it, there are tanks that need to be cleared off the road and security guards don't want any one to get hurt.

I was at a 1990s spectator event and I started yelling at the Germans in German. The spectators started laughing at their reactions, you could hear the public saying, "The GI understands Germans better than the GERMANS do!"

Not a WW2 reenactor, so I had no idea there was a "knees controversy" but the fact there is, seems silly to me. I guess when I'm at Reenactor Fest this winter, I will have a conversation starter. :) Serious question, aren't the battles scripted? Meaning you know going in the general order of battle and sequence of events along with outcome? Doesn't this make the final disposition of the forces a foregone conclusion, and if so, wouldn't all this stuff be worked out in advance?
@JohnsonTheSecond

From what I have seen it is sort of natural. Like, the Germans decide to be more modest with taking hits, so the Russians win this time. But it depends on each event.
@captainyolowaffle3160
@captainyolowaffle3160 Жыл бұрын
It depends on the re-enactment and who’s organizing it, but I think typically there is a set conclusion, but the in between isn’t scripted. It’s up to the re-enactors to have the flow of battle favor the side that’s supposed to win. I think sometimes squad leaders will tell their squad members when to take hits, but that might just be Napoleonic era re-enacting where they’re much closer to each other

I always hated the way most reenactors handle capturing POW's. Even Germans got it wrong most of the time, wanting to do executions. Shoving POW's around and yelling at them is dumb. You're right, check for intel. FJ, eh?? I used to do that :) 7./FJR.6, but never made it to Conneaut.

I went there this year. I enjoyed it tremendously. However, conneaut drives me crazy with how many Americans survive and the tank battles. They're cool but historically I have beef with it.

The beach area at D-Day Ohio actually looks fairly decent. Sure, we do not have the elaborate defenses or actual bunkers on site. But for a reenactment, it's not too bad. Not everyone has 5K + more to travel out to Europe to do a reenactment. It also is beside the point. The point of a public battle like this, stateside, is to represent the battles to the general public here, educate them, and honor the sacrifices of those who participated in the real deal. This event goes to great lengths to also bring out many WW2 veterans and the often forgotten Korean War veterans. It's more than simply being at the 'actual battlegrounds'. I know that there are reenactments and the likes that span France, but many reenactors here just can not do it. People have jobs, car and home payments, families....it would be difficult to coordinate reenactors from the US to travel to Europe for this sort of thing in any large numbers.

HkSniper I appreciate that but I still think reenactors should do it once in their lifetime and truly relive what it was like as a GI I've done public shows as a truck driver (being a black reenactor ain't easy when trying to be realistic but hey that's history) and I've also done it in Normandy for a week and I can definitely say that the public events don't compare in the slightest. Great content by the way. Your quality is excellent
