With all the different enclosures you use, you should design your own. I had an idea for a locking mechanism for the ones you just used that would be perfect, and inexpensive.

aughhhh this species is so beautiful. Personally mine was way way waaaaay more skittish than my GBBs, especially as a sling, and it literally teleported. It's the only T I've owned that has escaped on me. Not even once but twice! (thankfully caught swiftly though) Mine eventually molted out into a mature male so I ended up selling him to a breeder. I need another d. diamantinensis in my life. They are lunatics.

I love heavy webbing species, super excited for my sling to arrive! Can I ask where you get your bulk corkbark? I have realised that this is not just a phase and this is going to be my foreseeable future lol. That spider is so gorgeous I love the way the legs are teal under the light. Would this species be appropriate in a dram vial? I have a .25" sling coming. Do they web very early on? Thanks so much! - Charlotte

HI, Charlotte! Me too! I have one of these now who has webbed the snot out of her enclosure. She's the right size for it, but I may have to rehouse to give her more room to web! And I started all four of mine in dram vial. They outgrow them pretty fast, but they start so small that I allows me to keep track of them!

Hi Tom. Nice content and thanks for sharing. Those new enclosures you have look pretty good. I'm at the point where a few of my juveniles are ready for a transfer and I've been looking around for a better clear enclosure. These may fit the bill nicely. I generally keep everything on the same substrate as you've previously outlined with fiber, soil and vermiculite. Do you have a mixture recommendation for Ts that burrow, holds it's structure without caving in? Regarding content, I'd love to see how you care for feeders like B. lats or dubias if you do that sort of thing. Any video length is good with me as I always look forward to your postings. FWIW, I'm a metal fan. My 3 old bobs her head to Burzum and this morning on the way to daycare she wanted me to turn up the volume. We were listening to some older Amon Amarth.
@TomsBigSpiders
@TomsBigSpiders 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Eyespeck! I REALLY like those for juveniles and dwarfs. The are crystal clear and look so darned good all stacked up. As for burrowing substrate, I'm currently experimenting with a coco fiber, bentonite clay. I'll post a video as soon as I can. :) Oh, man...LOVE me some Burzum! I just bought Dunkelheit on vinyl recently. We actually saw Amon Amarth in concert a couple years ago. It was EPIC. Thanks again!

Tom maybe you could give us a measurement on those hinged boxes you have for some clarification please. Amazon link states these boxes are " THOUGHTFULLY SIZED: Each Measures 12.75" x 17.25" x 7" high" . Just as a heads up to anyone else, in the product description below on the same link, its actually 12.8 x 7.2 x 14 inches...not 17.25 inches. If we go by LxWxH and thats what Amazon uses to describe these, one dimension says they are 7 inches high, the other claims them 14 inches in height so something doesnt jive. They "appear " to look more like 12x7 x7 "ish". Thanks.
@TomsBigSpiders
@TomsBigSpiders 6 жыл бұрын
That's odd. I pulled that link directly from my order. They are closer to 12 x 7 x 7 or so. I'll have to doublecheck and see what happened there.

Hi Tom, I picked up a Dolichothele exilis last week, but I can't find any info on them here in the UK. For now I have set it up the same as my D diamantinensis and within an hour it had laid down some impressive webbing, so I am happy with that. Is the care for both species the same, or is should I be keeping the D exilis differently?
@TomsBigSpiders
@TomsBigSpiders 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Vanessa! Congrats! I haven't kept that species before, so I'm not familiar with it's care. My thoughts would be yes, but I would research where they come from in comparison to the D. diamantinensis.

My juvenile? Sub adult? dolichothele diamantinensis’ enclosure began to stink, like really realllllly stink. I tried to see what it was without disturbing her but I couldn’t! In the eng I had to take her out and check inside her skull…. She had a huge pile of cricket heads in there, rotting and causing such a bad stench that it had seeped into the very essence of the skull and I had to remove e skull too. I thought she’d be very upset but she just immediately started webbing even as I was trying to take the skull away…. She wedded the ever loving snot out of the enclosure overnight. She’s a weird one. The sling has also webbed the candy jar to the high heavens. It’s… amazing.

My favourite little spider! Got mine as a sling and its a ferocious little spider! Ate everything I fed it! Had a bit of a scare during one of it's moults. After a few days when I dropped a roach nymph in she pounced on it but then let it go. It would pounce and grab it again but then let it go. I then noticed it had a bad moult and it's fangs didn't develop. I managed to crush up and pulp a roach, which it ate, luckily. After that it stopped eating. Had a nervous month before it moulted and all was back to normal. Since then she's comeback with a vengeance destroying and eating everything hahahaha

@tristanberke8759 6 жыл бұрын
@@TomsBigSpiders very well could be. But I have absolutely no idea how it could have died. The only T's I've ever lost were two juvi/sub adult A. Avic's. A MM G. Rosea, the D. Diamantinensis sling and a C. Fimbriatus sling. And to this day I have no idea how any of those deaths happened. I kept all of them at a good temperature and the correct respective enclosures for each with a ton of ventilation for the avics and plenty of humidity for the C. Fimbriatus. The Avics were both from petsmart, so I think changing them into the proper type of enclosure rather than a terestrial critter keeper like petsmart had them in may have been too much for them since they were used to the incorrect conditions. Regardless I have 10 T's now from a 1/2 inch B. Albo all the way up to about a 6" P. Cambridgei. And all of them are doing very well now. So who knows what happened. But all is well in tarantula world now. XD

Tom, I just lost one of my MM D. Diamantinensis yesterday. I am trying to get an idea of the lifespan of the male to the female and can't seem to find ANY info on that subject. I have a couple of publications one of them being Tarantulas Of The World ( Francois Teyssie' ) and another , The Tarantula Keepers guide ( Schultz & Schultz ). Neither has any info on this species. Do you know anything about this ? If so , I would greatly appreciate any info from you. i really enjoy your videos ! Russ

Hey, Tim! Did they change it back to Haplopelma? It was Cyriopagopus for a while. This is one of those "pet hole" species, so it'll need deep and moist substrate. I think that they are also a smaller species, too (4" or so?). I'm thinking that something in the 3-5 gallon range would work fine for one. Congrats! Did it arrive yet?

I realize I’m using this video like a record of my two Dolichothele diamantinensis 😅. The younger of my two just molted with the gangliest legs I’ve seen on any of my spiders,( not counting the water spider) so I’m suspecting a male there. I won’t know till I ask my Spider-Man. Either way it’s a pretty specimen and the the nicer of my two, my female is the most defensive spider I have. I’m just hoping it won’t be as bad as my make Eresus walckenaeri was with not eating and constantly wandering around the enclosure.😅

Hello, Mausami Rai! hahaha That's okay! Yup, it sounds like you have a little male there! Mine was super gangly as well. And your girl is defensive! Wow! @Setsunadiava149
@Setsunadiava149 Жыл бұрын
@@TomsBigSpiders ah, the Eresus walckenaeri in question has long since passed, Lily matured out male and absolutely refused to eat, web or indeed anything but pace about his enclosure tapping away at the walls constantly. I sent him off to be bred but I think truthfully, none of us really knew much about this species, even the dealer was super iffy. My female has made a huge mess of sticky web allll over her little enclosure. My female Dolichothele diamantinensis is defensive despite the cozy, webbing infested enclosure she has. Every time I try to feed her she smacks the living daylights out of the crickets then bites it right on the head every single time then proceeds to decapitate it. She eats infrequently(once every two or three weeks) so I never know if it’s premolt or Neela being in a mood.

@@TomsBigSpiders Thanks for answering Tom. About the soil, that's what figured, that it was treated with something toxic. And if so, why, because even plants would die with toxic soil. Hi Tom, I could really do with your advice please. My D Diamentinensis has just molted and her colours are stunning, however I have a big problem. Four of her legs on her left side are deformed, broken and bent. I haven't touched her as she only molted two days ago, but theres hardly any movement. I'm really concerned, this is the first time this has happened in my collection. Do you have any advice? I understand tarantulas regenerate legs in future molts, however can she survive as all four on one side are broken. I have thought about given her pre killed feeders once she has hardened up. Please help x
@TomsBigSpiders
@TomsBigSpiders 5 жыл бұрын
My apologies for the delay! How is she doing? Is she able to move around at all. Yes, they can regenerate their legs. If your spider's mobility is impacted, she may find it difficult to hunt. Therefore, I would offer prekilled to her until she is able to get going again (just as you said).
