Another great video. After watching hundreds of Wyze "reviews" that were boring and nearly useless, it is great to find someone with some really good ideas. Ideas/hacks that we can use in getting more out of our systems. Water sensor and siren are fantastic ideas.

Great video. I was wondering how hard it would be to interface my house's hardwired security sensors to the Wyse system--perfect method. I just need to connect to existing sensor loops.

Very simple mod to pull off. Extra points for making use of a Wyze contact sensor to do it instead of having to use an Arduino compatible chip and completely DIY the whole process from the ground up.

Will this detect humidity in the air such as a shower running too long? will a condensation even the slightest trigger it?

You mention you're using one for the water heater, will it work submerged in the pan? Thinking of placing housing on side of water heater with sensor in pan.... Thanks for the hack!

Hi, very nice video. The problem I have is that it leaves the sensor OPEN until it gets wet when the water will CLOSE the circuit. Leaving the sensor OPEN all the time drains the battery and probably pollutes the RF. Any idea how to fix this?
@TaylorTech5 жыл бұрын
I don't think leaving the circuit open drains the battery, unless you have proof of this somehow? I've used different contact sensors over the past few years and had a few of them normally open and have had no noticeable difference.
@williamterry31774 жыл бұрын
I agree that the status of the sensor will not drain the battery. If that were the case, leaving your window or door open with the normal reed switch would also drain the battery.
@tjk10094 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I was wondering. Thanks for the comment.

@@tjk1009 installed 3 sensors based on the video, 3 months later all 3 are dead, battery drained on 2, the 3rd.one lost MAC so probably not related

@@TaylorTech Wait a minute. Is the reed switch closed without the magnet and the electronics reports the opposite? If the reed switch was closed all the time would that not drain the battery because the electronics are in a constant active state? If the reed switch is open is that also turning off the electronics as in there is no activity until the reed closes thus turning on the electronics? Or..... is the electronics in sleep mode until the reed switch closes then everything is on full power to transmit?

Thanks for the info. I wonder if this would work with a water sensor from amazon. You just need the sensor end and not the wifi hub. Get the one with a main body "wifi hub" that has a wire run to a sensor. Disgard the main body and cut the wire. Connect the wires to the wyze sensor and use the sensor end to detect water.

Question, when there is no water, the sensor is in an open state, water closes the circuit. if the sensor is for an alarm, doesn't the alarm trigger in an open state and not a closed state?

Very cool use of the contact sensor! Have you ever tried to extend the antenna in a Wyze motion sensor? I'd love to detect when my metal mailbox opens/closes, but to do it I'd have to put the motion sensor inside with the antenna outside the steel box.
@andreac33624 жыл бұрын
Do you even need the water sensor? It appears that water connecting the two wires will set this off. Am I missing something?
@valshaped4 жыл бұрын
Water sensor appears to give a larger surface area for water to contact, and the pads are a consistent distance apart.
@hectorlopez92014 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. Why even get the sensors and why not use just the leads by the sump pump and when they get wet it will set the trigger off. Maybe even use a small paper or cloth rag to soak up water and then put leads on them to get continuity to set trigger? Just curious. Cool idea though.

I’ve been watching these videos, and I love the information that you provide. I just bought a house and in the middle of selling my last. Once that happens, I’m going ham. So these are some questions I would like to ask, because you seem to really know what you are looking at. 1: is there a way to utilize a hdd plugged into your router to store camera footage while also being able to stream to action tiles? I want to stream all the time because I have kids and I’d like to monitor them in the loft and back yard. However, I’d like to record the entry points in my house as well (whether this happens only during motion on or full time, whichever). I’d rather use a hdd because I wouldn’t have to clean it so often, or do those wise cams just continuously delete the old while recording new? 2: could you use a hdd plugged into your router to share music to Alexa? I doubt this one seriously, without some very in depth stuff at least. 3: Wouldn’t a smartthings hub be ideal rather than to connecting to your router? I’ve read a hub is meant to handle oodles of smart devices so that you don’t put strain on your router. I have a $250 router (Netgear x6) and it says it’s limited on the devices you can connect to it, and I understand this to be true regardless of the internet speeds and bandwidth actually available. This is why I was so interested in the mesh network stuff to extend the WiFi, because I’m thinking this integrates the system into the hub, then router, rather than to the router directly. This is new, but I do know I want this to be a sweet setup.

This is great! Think it’s possible to do something similar to create a “smart” pressure pad sensor? I’ve been racking my brain on creating an under mattress sensor to trigger bedtime automations and morning automation when u get out of bed. Thoughts? Love the channel

as small as the circuit board is you could hot glue it to the inside of a flip top pill bottle and have a small magnet glued inside... my wife always forgets IF she took her pill or not... now she'd know. I was thinking of 3D printing a box for the sensor, but could probably just print a lid with the circuit inside if I wanted to hide it.

Sorry man, but with this being as simple as it is, and with plenty of other channels that have already done a video exactly like this... I thought it would be different because you put a drain pipe in the thumbnail. Unfortunately just another of the same. How are you detecting leaky faucets or running toilets?

Hey, for those of us with a 3D printer, I designed an enclosure for this setup. You can download it here www.thingiverse.com/thing:4070779 With that said, I've adapted two sensors with this approach and within a day, they are both reporting low battery in the Wyze app. I just did this yesterday, so I'll see what happens in the next few days. Is anyone else having the same issue?
@mikejoyce71573 жыл бұрын
Some people mentioned that the negative battery contact is weak. They will tweak the tab up a tad to get better contact.
