I’m about to take the plunge on making my own inserts for a new Traveler’s Company passport cover I bought. I’m extremely picky with my paper since I’m into fountain pens, so making my own notebooks is more about having the perfect paper than it is about saving money. Ended up choosing Iroful paper with a dot grid pattern and some nice card stock for the cover. This tutorial is super thorough and I love the idea of not having to cut the paper to size before stapling. Thanks for all the detail! A lot of channels skip steps. I’m excited to get started

So glad I can be helpful. Let me know how it works for you. I’d love to see how you like the paper you chose. That’s what is so great about making your own inserts, you can personalize to your needs.

I've had the same corner rounder since 2014. It still works wonderfully. BTW "kadomaru" means corner and round. That's why many fat cats are named Maru. Thanks for sharing. Edit: Cool tab idea

Thanks for the tutorial. I made some passport size inserts a few months back. I wish I had that monster cutter. When I trimmed the edges using a ruler and packing knife, the ruler kept slipping and the edges look very messy. I tried both stapling and sewing them together. I found it was really hard to line the stapler up on the folded edge....my stapler doesn’t have the ridge and edge, just have to eyeball it. I was more successful with sewing - I used an awl to punch the holes and sewed with waxed dental floss. I didn’t think of rounding the corners. I might dig them out of the cupboard and see if I can improve them by rounding the corners. I’ll definitely be giving it another go now that I’ve watched your expert tutorial.

Aussie Girl I sometimes use a metal ruler that has cork on one side. That helps grip the paper sometimes.

Aussie Girl in these post Covid19 times with shipping prices being so expensive and mail delivery being a little unreliable I wanted to make a tutorial that can help keep everyone journaling and planning.

John Rush Absolutely. I live in Osaka Japan and the post office stopped accepting mail for Australia about a month ago. So I’ve got a stack of parcels (face masks and patterns for making them) for my friends and family that will just have to sit here until the post office lifts the ban. I’m waiting on an order for some books needed for one of my classes which is supposed to start next Tuesday and they haven’t arrived yet. I’m the teacher so I usually order for my whole class. I’ll have to delay the start of the class until next month or even the month after if they still haven’t arrived. At least once I have the books we can do the class online. Also, lots of online shops are not supplying to Japan and if I’m lucky enough to find one that does, it won’t accept my Aussie credit card or PayPal. A minor inconvenience when you take into account the bigger picture but nonetheless annoying.

Do you use any special paper for the inserts. I have heard of tomoe paper, do you use something like that?
@planningwithjohn
@planningwithjohn 3 жыл бұрын
I use a variety of paper Midori MD, Kokuyo, Tomoe Rive, Staples Pastel, Hammermill, Strathmore 25% cotton writing paper, Claire Fontaine and a few others. It is usually what I have one hand and what I feel like using.
