When Sakuya asked why she quietly stayed locked up until now Flandre's answer was: "I wouldn't say I was 'locked up'. The sunlight doesn't reach down here. I get food and everything else brought right to me. It was just comfortable, that's all"

Patchouli said in the extra stage "I don't have time for this... First, the little sister, and now you." which would imply that Flandre was acting up. And again, the manga was written by ZUN. Also I'm not sure what you mean by translation errors.
