@@johannabartz9430 Johanna, my experience of making baroque flutes led me to appreciate the Renessance one-piece flute the solidity of it sounds and its simplicity, produces something overwhelming and unique, which according to my belief got lost from the baroque flute Period and on, due to the need to enlarge the tonality. It would be amazing to hear your recording now I’ll keep my eye open🤗

@@johannabartz9430 No doubt we're related way back. If you want to check out some more Classically inclined musicians named Bartz, punch in BARTZ TRIBE "CLASSICAL" ETC. (I hope you are O.K. with my putting a couple of your videos in the playlist. If not, let me know.) I put the playlist(s) together to feature all my distant "cousins" music in various genres, and it's been a lot of fun and somewhat surprising. My family was originally centered in Minnesota after coming from Germany and eventually spread all over the country. Sometimes the coincidences are a little weird (see my comment under Clara Gerdes Bartz Mephisto Waltz), but good music and coincidences are fun!

I second the acclamations below, that is a superb performance of a marvellous piece on gorgeous instruments. Both are so rare that they would merit two or three words of introduction. Anyway, I gathered the flute is made of plum wood and that is lovely. The pitch could be lower for the period, but the harp is so rare (and precious) that you probably don‘t keep half a dozen of them at various pitches between 370 and 470. Still as a compromise standard, why not rather go for 400 which is a frequent and very good sounding pitch of traverse flutes? Another thing I do not quite understand is why the renaissance flute, which was invariably in feminine gender at the time ({flauta} traversa, or la fleutte d‘alleman), has had a sex change recently?

I was stunned by the flutes sound! Thank you! I do have a question, is the renaissance traverso a chromatic instrument? Can it play all the semitones? Thanks!
@johannabartz94302 жыл бұрын
Dear Joseph, thanks a lot! About your question: No, the Renaissance traverso is a diatonic instrument, sounding best in the modal system (one or no flat in the key signature (=transposed or untransposed modes)). It is possible to play some chromaticism on it though.

How old were you two when you started learning period instruments and technique? Wondering if it's too late for me.
@johannabartz94302 жыл бұрын
I started the recorder at age 7, modern flute at age 10, baroque traverso at ager 14 and renaissance at age 26. I think everybody has different rhythms, but it's never too late to start an instrument!
@HenryBertolucci4 жыл бұрын
Nice Instrument and performance. Is this traverso some of the BCV or AFV ones replica? Is the pitch supposed to be something slightly above 415hz?
@johannabartz94304 жыл бұрын
Dear Henry, this is a replica after AFV and supposed to play at a=415 Hz. On the day of this recording it was very warm in the room, so we ended up playing a bit higher than 415. ;)
@HenryBertolucci4 жыл бұрын
I am kinda confused now... I have seen you saying in another comment it's a Bassano replica (probably those "!!" marked ones, right?). However, aren't the Bassano ones from BC (Biblioteca Capitolare) instead of the Academia Filarmonica? The table I have says the AFV ones are Trefoil, not Bassano, however, it may be incomplete as well.
