This pretty much comfirmed what Cornette also said about Batista on his podcast. It's kind of a shame Batista started so late in his life and had a relatively brief career. His run was short, but very memorable.

I mean that was the reason the rev gimmick didn't work. Decon was so green they wouldn't let him do literally anything. So you had this massive monster who never spoke or did anything. He makes I believe more than 4 TV appearances before he even touches another person and he maybe touched a microphone once the entire length of the gimmick. It was badly handled and it was NOT over, which is sad because it had a lot of potential. HHH did the job to try and get Devon and Batista over and it didn't work. Eventually it was scrapped and they put Batista with Flair who had just reached the point where he couldn't work full time anymore. Then they combined that with Orton and HHH for evolution. Devon also needed a better writer oh my god some of the dialogue during that was so bad.
