What do you think were Shawn Michaels intentions in that match with Hogan at SummerSlam? Let us know in the comments below!
@jhmoxl8 ай бұрын
i tend to believe Shawn. I think he was working Hogan much like Terry Funk did. Hogan is a super hero character and so you go over the top and it just weird out of context when clipped and without seeing how Shawn worked as a heel for the last decade of his career. I actually thought Shawn laid out a pretty good match that night that built to a finish where it felt like Shawn is absolutely screwing Hogan out of this one tonight, and then nope Hulk is just too good.
@ad2068 ай бұрын
His intentions were to do what they wanted him to do. This match has become such an internet myth over the years. The match was no different than any Mr. Perfect match (he even did Mr. Perfect's turnbuckle spot), Sgt Slaughter match, anything Hogan did in the late '80s, early '90s.

Brian Danielson even trained under him, but Danielson has always cited William regal as his biggest mentor. back then it gave the impression amongst fans that shawn wasn't that great a teacher (this was perpetuated by whatculture in one of their many lists, not my personal opinion). I just like to view it as more character growth for shawn and he's now connecting with people more than in the 2000's. wish jim cornette would give him a second chance, I think shawns earned it.

I was just going to mention this, that it looks like dude has bigger arms here in retirement than he did when he was active! Shawn was never anything remotely close to a "body guy"; to the contrary he is always mentioned as the very first name, the epitome of the much smaller, more athletic types that was turned to in the wake of the steroid scandal and defined the most beloved era of wrestling ever. Perhaps, indeed, part of his holding up so well is the very fact that he probably took it easy on the PEDs when younger in bodybuilding you see this often that these are the guys who can still look good and don't face health crises when older. This isn't a current video but he still looks quite good today. Especially for a guy who'd gone balls to the wall with something as generally, multiple-ways unhealthy as pro wrestling.
@armysniperman806 ай бұрын
@@salvadorromero9712 He was always soo tiny(and still is) when he wrestled. He was a mid card guy at best, who obviously had some connections that made him a "heavyweight" title contender.

People in the Comments, and HBK Haters overall are exactly what Shawn said. Too damn easy to manipulate. Grow up. Get a Hobby. Stop taking Fake Pro Wrestling so damn seriously.
@jamesr47177 ай бұрын
The fans don't give the wrestlers and bookers enough credit for their ability to manipulate their emotions. Most of the times the fans think they spotted a shoot, they just got worked again. That's how the business needed to evolve with social media, figuring out a way to be a step ahead of the audience
@extremepop3247 ай бұрын
It already is.. been actually. Most of the big "behind the scenes" stories, shoot interviews, etc. is where the kayfabe is stronger than ever. For example, all the Hogan hate is definitely manipulated for us to hate him.. that's the point. If you pay attention you can see how they manipulate our emotions and "guide" our hate or love to whatever or whoever they want

Just to demonstrate how much wrestling has changed, there were 8 matches on that summerslam 05 card, 3 had titles on the line. In summerlam 2024 there were 7 matches, 6 had titles on line. Feels like the art of building feuds not around a title has been lost
