According to current literature records, the reasons for the cracking of porcelain can be divided into two types. One is natural cracking, which is formed after years of baptism. I call it slow cracking. One is artificial opening. Artificial opening is mostly slurry. "Slurry" mainly refers to the preparation of ceramic powder, which is blended into the mud during embryo making, and then made into embryos, and then fired in the kiln. When it comes out of the kiln, it will open out, which I call rapid opening. Artificially cut porcelain has been around since the Song Dynasty. Especially in the Qing Dynasty, during the Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong periods, people were very fond of imitating the cut porcelain from the five famous kilns in the Song Dynasty, such as Ge glaze wares. However, after the baptism of time, the glaze surface of these porcelains that were cracked when they came out of the kiln gradually cracked internally over time, showing ice cracks, caviar patterns, or cow hair patterns, etc., which were only superficially different from the original ones on the glaze. The intersection of opening pieces occurs, while new porcelain does not have this phenomenon. This is the key point for us to distinguish new and old from the cut pieces of porcelain. As long as we observe and compare carefully, it is not difficult to learn to judge new and old from the cut pieces of porcelain.
