D16 VTEC SUPER COOPER SPORT TEST DRIVE

Just testing out Randles car as the finish line nears. This is an important part of our builds, mostly because i get to have fun ripping on other peoples cars but also because it it important to see how it is running in real world environments. Randle lives in Texas and we want to sort out any issues before it heads home to him. Often builds like this take several test drives to get the bugs out. This car we used an MCM subframe and fabricated a custom AC system among other things to it.

Are you guys using Vintage Air for AC components? I have one of the first D16 conversions that BJ and Norman at MiniTec did (Kreacher AKA Red Riley), and the AC frankly sucks. The under-dash part looks OK, but the controls are sloppy, and the compressor is noisy, and I never use it. Wondering if you have any suggestions for upgrading to something better.

Brian Smart we have been using vintage air for a while, you definitely get what you pay for! A lot of the units on the market are produced in China and This unit has been a good option, small enough but still quite powerful. The issues we came across in the first test with the Texas car in this video were easily resolved and we are happy with it. One thing that we do is mount the condenser under the trunk rather than block the radiator as was the previous design. The airflow is adequate with a fan, we recommend spax or the higher quality brands.

@@GildredRacing Yeah, my condenser is under the trunk. I think the main issue is that the controls are super sloppy and I never know exactly where it's set at. There don't seem to be any definite stop points on the knobs. I might give VA a call and see what they might recommend.
