It's 2010 Kyle Dake's freshman year. In order to make the 141 lb NCAA finals he'll need to get by the 2009 NCAA Runner-up at 133 lbs, Reece Humphrey. The two met twice earlier in the year and each wrestler earned a win. Dake shows why its almost impossible to take him down.

Chael Sonnen on that FLR episode is what brought me here. He swore that Dake wrestled Reece in the finals! lol

I was a huge fan of Dake when he was at Cornell. Not so much now. But I do want to say I noticed his progression from his freshmen year to senior year with being more into chain wrestling/technical superiority. Whereas in this video, I believe his freshmen year he would have these moments of build up and then explode which is why they called him “kid dynamite”. I like that the refs are harder with stall calls but I would say stalling is when you are trying nothing and looking for nothing. Dake was clearly looking even tho he’d kind of pause like an old man. Hope I provided enough to plead my case, cheers.

Why didn't Reece chose down ?..when he had choice in 2nd ..He had to know match would be close and 1 pt. could make difference ..someone only does that; if they think they are way superior on their feet , [which I don't think was the case}..or they don't think they can get out ....Did I answer my own question ?

With no context, I’d say that Dake was ultra-defensive and should have been hit with stalling multiple times. However, people need to realize that this was a match of an 18-year-old against a 23-year-old, who was a runner-up in the season prior.

Did you see where Dake backed Humphrey out of bounds about 10 different times during regulation and no stall was called? With the exception of a couple of times toward the end of the match, every time Humphrey tried to push Dake out, Dake circled back in. Humphrey was stalling way worse than Dake in this one.

I don’t feel like dake was the better wrestler here. Stalled the whole time. He’s all defense. Boring.

Yet he managed to win 4 national titles ... he is a defensive wrestler, Ill give you that. This one could have gone either way, but Dake is so hard to score on. Lucky for him Reece didn't get back points and a takedown from the throw in the first period - very close. Being an Indiana native, I like Reece ... however I am a Dake fan.

@@scott729 well as Jordan Leen said, Dake expects to beat everybody no matter what, and he believes he has to win. Is Dake a defensive wrestler? Yes, but a lot of Dake’s actions are based on his will. Pretty much Dake’s entire style is based off of his will, a lot of the things he does shouldn’t work, but because he wants to win so badly he somehow makes them work. Dake isn’t going do any unnecessary offense if he doesn’t have to, but when he needs to score he gets desperate and starts shooting in a lot more. Dake is good in pretty much every position, it’s just his style is basically off of his mindset, we can get matches where he stalls a lot like here, or we could get an incredibly physical Kyle Dake that we got when he wrestled Frank Molinaro, it just depends on how he feels, sadly a lot of times he felt like he had to stall

@@ianshue2890 This reply seems like you are trying to convince me that I should believe in Dake and his style. I am a Dake fan as I said above. I was defending him against the comment that Tucker Oliver made. He absolutely was the best wrestler of the match which is why he went on to win three more national titles. No worries, all good.

@@scott729 sorry, I read the comment wrong. I wasn’t trying to convince anything, I was just trying to tell how Dake wrestled most the time, a lot of it does come from how he feels.
