D2R - How Long Does It Really Take To Hit lvl 99? (For Us Mere Mortals)

Hello Guys and Gals It's Ladder Season 2, and I finally hit lvl 99, so here is a brief Overview of my Final Character, as well as a clip of me finally hitting 99.
All Totaled it took me about 300 hours to hit level 99 This season.

Really awesome accomplishment! I very much appreciated the style of playing alongside one another as a team to clear the terror zones, and was glad to join you through a lot of your level 99 journey in that regard. I hope I can join you at 99, though it looks like it'll happen after the Thanksgiving holiday at this point. My only critique is that a new player would likely (and should expect to) switch between classes along the way since it can be tough to know exactly what build you'll enjoy enough to grind all the way to 99 with if you're new to the game or even just returnig to the game after some years (especially since new or lesser used build possibilities have certainly opened up with the D2R updates) - so, a new player would need to expect taking even more time.

Congratulations! I really like your build! Ice bow amazon is on my bucket list, great to see that it can be really successful. For this season I set my own goals a little bit lower, as a dirty casual my highest char is 92 now and I hope to get to 95 one day so I can gamble amulets. Although I'm playing ladder I don't care about the ranking, it's just for the fun of starting fresh and progressing. "The journey is the reward"

Absolutely. I much prefer playing alongside my friends rather than in a split fashion (split MF included - even if the focus is items and not experience, I find it more fun slaying stuff alongside my friends). In addition, after GGM hit 99 we helped him test whether he (at 99) was still leeching away experience from the group and it turns out level 99 characters DO STEAL EXPERIENCE FROM THE GROUP. This finding is a further detriment to encouraging shoulder-to-shoulder team play in D2R which I think is really unfortunate. When I hit level 99, I'd much prefer to keep playing alongside my friends to help them hit 99 themselves, but as it is now - unless I was significantly increasing the clear speed of the group - I would be hurting more than helping since I'd be leeching experience from the group that would go nowhere.

Made it 96 1/2 hardcore. Got frustrated with the lack of games and people wanting to solo TZ. I have a 97 barb hardcore on single player. The Baal runs are getting old. Really hope they bring TZ to single player. Congratulations to you.

On solo I've got the builds I'm most interested in, most of them, starting Hell. I'm going to come back to it watching all the cinematics, talking to all NPC's, enjoying the full experience at my own pace.

I am trying to get to 99 on hardcore for the trophy on the playstation, but offline mode. I was trying to do it online before but cross progression between pc and playstation glitched my hardcore trophy :( so I had to restart it. It's just nuts how much time it takes. The only advice I can give is do it with your favorite build or a build that you like playing a lot, otherwise you get burned out of it very quickly on the last few levels. Also big congrats to you doing this insane grind without an enigma, this deserves even more respect.

Impossible to play hardcore on PlayStation without someone guard dogging you 24/7. The lag and connection will get you killed every time.

Really excited to make a Plague on my SP account. Haven’t settled on a base yet. That and I’m scared to roll it if I’m being honest. @@debacofzomb9889 since I’m on SP self found Switch, I doubt I’m going to be dropping Cham Runes left and right. So I want to make it useable for melee chars and mercs. So 1-h sword, non-eth(☹️), etc. I’m probably going to end up just putting it in a Phaseblade. Speed and Indestructible are hard to pass up. It basically comes with +20% ias with the -30 w-speed. Plus I won’t have to repair it all the time. But If the ED% rolls over 300%, gonna be kickin myself for not going cryptic, mythical, etc. So I’m kinda putting it off until I know exactly what base I want to use.

Wow you got patience. That was a serious trial back in the day. I remember dueling every time a 99 entered the game everyone said "oh shit." And then when two 99s dueled, it was a rare occasion and like watching a pay per view championship boxing match 🤣

IDK about the others but since the start of season2 i made 92 lvl but thats cause im slacker and every now and then i would take a detour making some 1 day character and i had rougly 2h per day. Also i mostly play alone and doing full game runs

I think a more realistic is play solo to 99 or solo 50% of the time since not many player is able to farm 8p games for 8 hrs everyday.

@@GGMentor I crafted a safety amulet early on with teleport charges :). I don’t loose any minions when I was to tele. Otherwise I would be running harmony. Last piece to work on is beast. I found a Ber rune last week. But I had put it to better use.

Solo? In HC? wow painful, it took me 37 days to hit 99 last season. That was online, in offline you can set the player count to 8 which will speed up your journey a lot but you also need to be able to kill stuff. so probably 37 days or less.

@@GGMentor that was season 1 - I am talking specifically about season 2. Season 1 was different tactics with the lack of terror zones. The position of the likes of Rob and Jymnasium in the ladder show how they helped each other. Teo gave up the chase and rolled a paladin when he realised the assassin didn't have the fire power. He created a smiter and was doing Ubers for the team.

It's of no fault of online play( Well maybe for those who are obsessed with wealth) but the balance between characters is still far too great. Teleport especially. My entire group when paladin or sorc and I went necro. Yeh cool I just get all necro stuff thrown at me, but what use is it when farming without tele? You can efficiently farm with everyone else as they are flying about and just tping to jump in for exp is boring as shit. Level 88 necro and it's been a waste of time, teleport need to become cheaper or forever ladder will be dominated by 2 builds only. Also if you're farming in a group, everyone wants the good item, if you don't get it... over any sorc a necro should get enigma first

I hit level 99 without teleport. I think you're confusing Target magic finding as the only way to Magic find. I have actually proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that walk magic finding is just as effective if not more effective than Target magic finding.

300 hours!!! pfff... i mean... congrats and all.. really! thanks for sharing! but i've been playing like 3000 and haven't even found a Lo rune... this game is so ridiculous. these drop rates are the worst and truly the only real argument why it sucks compared to d3. don't get me wrong, i'm all for d2 and i've been playing d2 already back in the days like crazy but yeah... drops need to be fair for solo online as well. not everybody cares about the scam that is called "online experience"and there is nothing more unfair than preventing people from setting /players themselves for farming. and yes i need to be online because sometimes i will play with some of my friends from back then.

Sounds like you need to adopt the way of the raccoon magic finder. I have found 2 zods, 2 jahs, a ber, Several Ohms, and Vexs, as well as 1 Cham just this season. I do this by clicking on every clickable and killing every monster. It's been proven that certain clickables drop certain runes. And they always will drop that rune. So by not clicking on everything you are more likely to miss High runes, Unique items, and more.

@@GGMentor hi man. i knew you were going to answer. :) sry btw. i didn't want to be rude... game is just frustrating and unrewarding as hell. anyway... the racoon technic. :) - trust me, i know that and i like to play like that as well. for me diablo was always about "clearing" an area and not just the "login, rush and kill one boss"-experience. unfortunately being the big slayer yields still nothing and the later is more effective. me and my friends always talk about how this game could be made more fair and we mostly conclude that one way would be to increase drop chances for exactly that. if a player clears 99% of an area chances to drop something nice should be increased for the last monster. if a player clears 90% of an act, the boss should have increased chances to drop something nice. - that way only players that "enjoy" the game would be rewarded and not the online-party-rush-looters. no... the biggest problem with this game is this mafia-like back-side ecenomy. people trading, chinese bots farming and selling for real life money, etc. i remember when d3 was completely ruined because of that crap in the beginning. blizzard has a hard time to balance the game between normal people with jobs and a life, hardcore players and bot-farmers from china... understandably, but i stand with it: the way it was and is now (at least they didn't change too much), normal people who like to have an online character because at least sometimes, when the time is right, they would like to play with friends, are completely f#+ked up because they will never, and i mean astronomically never, ever find even a level 53 rune! even if their characters are level 90+ and they farm level 85 areas, where contrary to the numbers the game is still crapping out 99,999% of things that you would find in act 1 on normal, with a level 12 character. sry... back on ranting :) don't mean it. you don't have to answer and start up a discussion. basically i anyway wanted to congrats on your 99... even if it turned out differently. :D keep up with your nice videos, i really like to watch your content. - even if it constantly draws me back to d2 and always going farming the "one last time" because there were again no drops. cu man! i will try to drop in your stream once. cheers!
