For speed running it’s 21 (complete normal), 40 (complete nightmare) and 61 (complete hell). A safe time to do them all would be 3 hours per difficulty. This was a great video and definitely saved :)

I see I'm not the only one getting a refresher. Just wanted to comment on your"wondering" on the act 5 experience issue. You Have probably been enlightened by now. But that was when blizzard came out with the first expansion. And they probably didn't rewrite the wheel. I played since the original Diablo and grew through and faded away from D3 back around 2014. Just a quick note for everybody playing D2R its actually not possible to do right of passage at the specific level 24 40 and 60 anymore since teleport wont get you to different towns now

I leveled up from Nightmare act 1 up to 55 just by farming andariel and countess XD when I finally got my first SoJ I realized that I was almost 56 and still in nightmare act I. So my advice is just to farm for loot or runes.

It's been so long since I've played, it's nice to get these refreshers for when D2R comes out. I do remember getting to the top of the ladder back in the day doing thousands of Baal runs for hours on end.

I didn’t know the penalties were quite so dire. Good to know. As for the perfect ExP farming spots, I never worry about that. I enjoy playing this game, so I usually go where the plot tells me to go. And I think farming is less enjoyable than regular play, it’s just a bit more repetetive. Playing through the entire thing gives me a greater variety of monsters and situations. Although, I do spend some extra time farming the countess for runes with most characters. You know, before your character starts advancing through the plot again, you swing by the Black Marsh and see if The Countess drops anything nice today. Yesterday she dropped a Gheeds Fortune treasure hunting charm. And now in Hell I’ve got one char with extra magic find cleaning out some extra nice areas that are accessible in the first acts. And another without magic find trawling Kurast for runes and rune word bases. So with one thing and another I’ve never had the problem of advancing too fast and getting crushing ExP penalties. My attitude is that life might be short, but it isn’t *that* short. It’s okay if it takes a while to finish the game.

mainly if you just play the game without trying to rush you will do fine. The issue is when you get to a zone with other people at the wrong level. For instance you need to be lvl 14 to really get exp in act 2, same goes for act 5 you really need to be lvl 25 for act 5 normal. There are these hard cutoff points where if you advance to fast they penalized you very badly. Like literally to the point where lets say you were lvl 12 with a buncha lvl 14's in act 2 normal. They would end up lvl 18 and you would still be lvl 12 that is how vast the exp difference is.

You can always chug some antidote and thwaing potions before engaging him. They give +50% (I think) Cold/Poison resistance and +10% max Poison/Cold resistance making at least 2 out of his 3 magical attacks a lot less scary... all you'd have to stack is a bit of Lightning resistance. Or Mote-trick him O:)

Completing hell at 61 is kind of nuts tbh, I’m having a hard time with three of my characters getting past act 4 hell and they are between levels 75 and 80

Very interesting guide! I'm a first time player and I've found that I'm consistently outlevelling these levelling guides just by going through areas and completing all the quests.. I think mainly because I tend to kill most monsters as I'm running through areas. I don't really grind or kill everything, but I'll cast nova a few times as I run by big groups on my sorcerer and I haven't had any issues or hit any big difficulty walls yet. I do have 1 question: What happens if I complete right of passage at a higher level? I'm about to fight diablo for the first time on my level 26 sorceress.

You will get the same amount of exp no matter what. Because it's a static amount of exp given for completing the quest. Also yes if you kill everything and don't skip over anything you generally will be at the right level at the right time.

I do this exact same thing on pretty much every playthrough on all my toons. Also... my OCD kicks in the moment I miss out on Waypoints... since you never know when you'd suddenly need your Nightname Halls of the Dead Level 2 waypoint even though you have your Cube already :P I do tend to farm up to level 30 on most toons when I reach Shenk/Eldritch just to make the rest of Normal and the start of Nightmare that much easier. Getting penalized on exp-gained is not that bad when you start out a bit too high a level. Same thing on Hell Countess... do tend to farm her a bit as well and getting some levels in the meantime.

This is if you play solo. But if you group up for chaos and baal runs in hell I'm pretty sure chaos runs become better than baal some points in the 90s. If I'm not mistaken.

It's a lvl 81 zone and it was heavily nerfed a while back and doesn't give anywhere near as much exp as it used to the unfortunately. Still decent for leveling lowbies

It’s 24 to ancients because 25 is the minimum level you start getting good exp from Baal, not because it’s the maximum per level as your guide suggests. Reasoning is to do with clvl vs alvl. I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned at all.

Well more specifically they are counting on the ancients to get you to 25, because 24 gets no exp. Ancients in normal will give you a guaranteed lvl

Single player, it’s better ( more satisfying for at least) to go up in player 8 in normal all the way up to level 50. It happens so fast. Then rush through OPd in NM to act 5 and go do eldritch/shenk/glacial/then WSK going up from 4-8 player all the way to level 70-75.

my frenzy barb took about 2 days (30+ hours i think) to level from 92 to 93, in hell, baal run, no anni. average exp gain per round is 1.4M~2M. i'm thinking about if i should do more, cause i have lots of other hobbies and can't spend all time on d2. but this game is part of my childhood memories. if i can pass lvl.95 i could be done.

Leveling to 99 was made much more difficult in one of the patches a while back. You might remember getting to a higher level before and don't take it hard. lvl 99 then is the equivalent of lvl 93 now. Don't stress yourself out about it too much, lvl 93 is a very good level and will do you well on most characters.

Regardless of what any guide says don't bother with something you struggle with. I found the Tal Rasha tombs to be useless for my bwazon due to physical immune ghosts and unravelers that keep ressurect them. Yes I can clear thease tombs but it is very, very slow going.

Lvl 24 Is more so the bare minimum. Most of the time you will be higher than that and that's fine too

I think there was a little detail missing when calculating the difference between getting 93% and 95% exp, it's not 2% lost, it's actually around 28.5% less/more exp you would gain, since you're already only getting 93% the increase/decrease can be judged off the remaining 5-7%.

I wonder why people focus on Tristram when I seemed to level faster starting from the outer cloister waypoint and going towards Andariel. Towards the end when you see spiders anytime I killed one my exp bar made huge leaps and bounds. So, why focus there ?

@@tomackwilliams2526 in many ways countess is the superior choice especially for a fresh character on a fresh server because you farm runes as well. But tristram is one zone that is not large enough to have exp loss due to distance. It has a nice heavy concentration of monsters and it's easy to find. Countess is harder to find, the zones are much larger and people get spread out making the exp less effective. And people are more likely going to spread out due to the nature of the zone. I think it really depends on your group. If it's a buncha random people tristram is gonna be the superior choice. If it's a group of friends or a static group/ladder group countess makes more sense.

Hey brother i’m a bit confused. If i go into my buddys game and rush him, does he still get experience? In other words js there a penalty for having like a level 85 player in with a level 10? How close do you need to be to eachother if i’m wiping out groups for him to get the exp?

There is no mismatched group penalty. The only penalties that exist are the act penalties. The ones I outlined in the video. If you take a lvl 1 character to act 5 hell he will be penalized 95% of all exp. But because low level characters require so little exp to level even 5% is a lot to him. If you take a lvl 20 character to his max exp zone and kill everything for him he will get max exp as long as he is near you for those kills. About the distance of two screens away. If he is too far away he gets nothing. You won't get any exp in his max exp zones Because of the penalties. At lvl 25 most of his exp penalties get removed and he can level easier it more places. Until lvl. 25 it's very strict follow my list.

It is designed to be hard to get to 99, what your are experiencing is how the development team intended it. They wanted 99 to be a grand accomplishment not something you do on a weekend bender. 96 to 97 is nothing compared to 98 to 99. What I can tell you is it is possible it's just gonna take you a while. I spent a long time in the video talking about these penalties and how it gets progressively worse as you get closer to lvl 99. Realistically you are looking at 4-6 weeks to get to lvl 99. I am not telling you this to discourage you. I want you to know that you are not failing at it, or doing it wrong. It's just deliberately meant to be difficult. Instead of thinking of it as a race, think of it as a marathon. Try not to die either because every death is a big setback.

@@fungiferous404 I disagree, you can complete all content far below lvl 90. Lvl 95 is easily obtainable. They are not withholding anything from a player who gets to 95 and stops. And the reward for lvl 99 over lvl 95 is minimal. Not everything needs to be so easy even a cave man can do it. You also don't have to get lvl 99, it's not required for anything. In the same exact way that you do not have to climb Mount Everest. But it is there and it is a challenge. If you want to meet the challenge you can but you don't have to.

@@GGMentor its not hard to hit lvl 99. The only reason its "hard" is because the exp gain is borked and its excessive grinding and super boring. They could have made it take a lot less grind and it would be fine. But nope, thats the ladder objective (which is also a poor idea). If something is hard simply through tedious means, thats bad design. Which this is.

When I go into nightmare all my characters are around 57-59... My necro got to 60. I keep doing baal over and over again for his exp and I increase the difficulty or player difficulty

How do cow levels impact exp earned at particular levels and difficulty? Is mentioned in video is there time stamp?

Cow levels used to be the best exp bar none for a long time until they nerfed it. Now they don't work well for exp anymore. Still great for items and white/socketed runeword bases. And you do still get exp but it's a shadow of what it once was.

Generally if you can't continue to the next zone it is usually a good time to go back to a zone you can handle and farm for equipment. If you tell me what class you are what kinda of build you have chosen I can maybe give you some advice.

Somehow the Den of Evil is a level 79 area while the Blood More is only level 66... Had the same problem on my level 65 Barbarian where I would have a tough time on the Elites in the Blood More but would get decimated by random mobs in the Den of Evil... Farmed some level on Nightmare - Baal and then retried Hell... still tough though.

Necromancers use wands, look for a wand in the shop that has the specific skills you are using.

I don't see how this leveling suggestion is even possible. My necro is 28 and I can't even remotely come close to killing Diablo in normal Act IV but somehow this diagram says I should be doing this Rite of Passage quest at the end of Act V when I'm level 24?? That seems impossible. I must be missing something.

@@GGMentor This is my first time ever playing Diablo 2. I have no idea WTF I'm doing. I am playing solo offline. I have tried to follow some guides but they don't seem to be helping. Yes, I was trying to do a summoner. Diablo just one shots all my pets immediately. I try using Iron Maiden on my Golem but he dies so fast it doesn't seem to do much dmg to him and I'm also nearly getting one shot in the process. It's a mess.

I really enjoyed this video, I learned many things I did not know about the game. Now my question, I am not a piano player, I played D1 when it was first released, I finished D2 and was so intimidated I waited 5 years to play D3 I love the numlock in D3 so I only have to march forward and smash mouse keys and one or two keys. What build do you suggest to help me with this. I have patience, but not typing skills.

Diablo II was actually the game that taught me to type believe it or not, though I don't think anyone needs to be a piano player to play diablo II. There is no auto run in diablo II so that will be an adjustment you mainly move by using the mouse not the keyboard. you also mainly attack by using the mouse not the keyboard. They keyboard is mainly only used for switching skills via hotkeys, and opening menus. I think the most used button on the keyboard is probably the Shift Key which holds your character still. It is important for many characters the amazon among them as stopping your characters movement allows you to use skills without advancing. I don't think you will be able to just run forward and smash buttons though perhaps a game controller might work better for what you are trying to achieve?

You could try a Frenzy Barbarian... You would from time-to-time have to recast Battle Order/Shout/Battle Command, but apart from that you can mostly put your Frenzy on your right-mouse (Berserk on left click for Physical Immunes) and just right-click your way through the game. Doing end-game stuff obviously requires some more precise clicking ;)

The ancient's quest gives exactly 1 level's worth of xp no matter what level you are. You do it at those levels because it's optimal for speed. Baal runs don't give good xp until level 25, so doing rite of passage at level 24 is optimal because it gets you to running baal runs faster. If you wait til a later level you'll get more xp from completing the quest, but it will take longer to get there because you did it without baal runs. If you do it sooner (say 20) you'll spend more time leveling from 24-25 than you would have spent doing 20-21. Also I follow that list except do cows from 20-24 because p8 cows is relatively easy to come by.

That's because the higher you get the less exp is given to you in lower zones. I believe the highest you can get in nightmare Baal runs is like lvl 71ish. And its a long boring run.

#1 you could ask someone to rush you. #2 the hard way walk there. #3 join a group and get there as a team. Not everyone is gonna get to the same objective points at the same times. Sorceresses have teleport for instance and tend to get there faster. While a melee Character might take longer and end up a higher level by the time they get there. But the sorceress isn't going to get as much exp because she is skipping content and will get there at a lower level.

I have heard of this but never done it I believe the answer is yes. But I think you wouldn't be allowed to do Baal runs, so you'd have to get all your exp from chaos and other sources. I remember seeing a video though of a guy do ancients at lvl 98 and get an instant lvl up.

If I remember right, the answer is no. The ancient quest gives a chunk of exp, so much you lvl up, but when ur high lvl… it just gives u the chunk of exp, but not the lvl… I did this back in D2 patch 1.09, way back in the days… might have changed but I highly doubt it… D2 has remain close to its original game despite the 20+ years. So I would suggest use it when ur ready for hell Baal run… don’t forget to abuse the chaos runs before then

I don't understand... You're in Act2 till 24 doing tal rashas tomb... so you're supposed to get to 24, then finish act 2, go all the way through act 3, 4 and most of 5 without gaining a lavel?

I was just exping in act 2 tal Tasha's tomb I was already in act 5 waiting for the ancients quest. The speed at which some people progress content is faster then others as well as you can be rushed.

I don't get it. How do you go from doing baal runs to get to 40 and then jumping all the way to act 5 nm to do more baal runs. By the time you get through nm act 5 you'll already be level 60 or higher just trying to clear the acts to get there. Am I the only one that sees the disconnect here?

Same. Also, there is no way you can do rite of passage at lvl24.... you'll be way higher simply by going through the acts.

Really depends on how you get there. How many people you are with. Wether you teleport or not ect. People who walk and kill everything don't tend to need a leveling guide. Which is why I went over two separate lists. Also some of these levels are determined by the ancients quest or exp penalties.

Diablo is part of chaos sanctuary, but yes Chaos sanctuary -> Baal People don't say diablo Because a lot of the exp comes from chaos. So you run the entire chaos sanctuary diablo included and then Baal.

If you are having trouble in nightmare you can ride out normal Baal runs until around 45.

Not really sure what you mean. This is just a general guide of where to be for the most part. There is also a optimal exp leveling guide but the two are separate. If you haven't beaten the game try to follow the Guide that shows you generally where you should be at a given level. If you kill most everything on the way you will Generally be the right level in the right places and not have penalties. However if you are rushing, bypassing areas, or someone is rushing you, you may find yourself too low level for the zones yoyur in Or even too high level. The are level guide can help you get back on track to the correct areas for your level.

That's why there are two charts, one is the correct place for your character based on level, the other is optimal exp farming locations. If you are under geared the general idea is to hang back in the previous area where you can kill and kill for loot not exp. Unfortunately there is no way to level if you can't kill the monsters appropriate to your level. Unless someone else is killing them for you(rushing/plvling)

Power leveling or G rushing as it's been called is the process by which you clear all the quests for the person and get them to baal runs. Generally if you can get them to act five and do bail runs they will level up quickly. You just have to do the quests for them. The ancients quests becomes limiters because you need to be lvl 20 to do normal ancients, 40 to do nightmare ancients, and 60 to do hell ancients. You can bump a player by having a correctly leveled player with the quest open in the group at the time of completion. You could also just create a new character and play with him just a thought

Punished? How so? If you are playing single player and you run players 8 you are getting 450% more exp per kill. But monsters are 450% more difficult. Your character will be a higher lvl at the same points as a single person running players 1 because you will be getting far more exp per monster. The challenge of players 8 on single player is pretty fun as well.

@@mariusscheijgrond9061 as far as I know for single player yes you can transfer characters to d2R. Plugly gives you an unlimited stash though and this will likely not make the transfer. So I would load whatever item you want to keep onto the characters themselves. That way when they transfer they will transfer with the equipment you want. The transfer process is very easy it is essentially just copying the save files to the diablo II Resurrected save directory. As for being lvl 60 in normal difficulty it's fine you will just be absurdly strong for your zone. The exp will all balance out in hell difficulty anyway around lvl 90. The 450% exp you get from players 8 is mitigating some of the penalties anyway. As for lack of resistances in nightmare yes it is a hurtle you have to conquer. There are many items that work well to help with this. Irathas set has great resistances, ancients pledge rune word is a good low resistance shield. You can also make a rhyme shield, or a smoke armor. I have videos up on all of these on my channel. Search around and feel free to ask questions. I have a video up for just about everything.
