And this is why Venom, if applied via a fast-paced attack, can dish out really good damage. This is also the reason why Ghost and Spider builds is making use of Whirlwind (from Chaos runeword) to apply ridiculous amounts of venom damage because Whirlwind applies is quick succession.

Keep in mind it only does 75% on blade fury like anything else,rather nullifying the already unimpressive damage. If it compressed instead of dividing outside poison damage it would be amazing.

Attacking once per 0.4s isn't that tough. That amounts to 10 FPA pretty generous, even with normal attack: assassins, amazons, barbarians, and paladins reach that even with badly rolled Grief PB or Plague PB alone or Plague Runic Talons, for assassin shenanigans. (I picked Grief as example, because among other fantasticness it also sports - enemy poison resist, and Plague for the Lower Resist CtC). You have to hit first, ofc, but that's the case for a lot of attacks: if you miss, you don't do/maintain damage :) Also, multiple applications of poison damage do not stack. That's the sad news, for assassins in particular as they tend to attack very fast, thanks to dual claws, Burst of Speed, Dragon Talon (or Whirlwind) and similar stuff. Once you beat 10 FPA, big chunk of Venom damage will go to waste.

my basic thoughts on using it are for that additional element, usually once i got the main damage maxed out i can put a few points in and let the skills buff it up to do a small increase

Imo the skill is nice to have for anyone who can get it as a borrowed skill from items but for an assassin it's not really that great to invest 20 hard points into it. Not even for a kicksin, who can get the same from small poison charms, who will be able to stack up way more poison over a longer time having both higher chances to stop regen and deal probably the same, maybe even higher damage over time. Ofc open wounds does the same but is harder to come by in larger numbers.

The on hit of the javelin yes, the additional poison damage from the cloud no Also, since poison damage from different sources do not stack, This means that venom would not work because the higher poison damage would take over.

I feel like venom is one of the most overrated skill the in the game. 400 poison damage per 0.4 second (or 10 frames) is like less than 200 elemental damage per attack. It's just 4 lightning small charm without -res... it's really bad... yet so many guides online put 20 point in venom.

Can't say you're really wrong here it's in addition damage, not main damage. I don't think any build primarily depends on venom for dogs output.

I believe there is a mistake in the charms damage calculation. I believe Antrax charms are 3 slots.

I wonder if it could be good on a Rabies druid now that the duration aint so long and the damage is still nice. And also if it works, would it have enough time to spread/infect surrounding mobs. If so, it could be good for Cows?

Pretty sure venom doesn't effect rabies. Rabies is poison but it competes with other poison effects instead of cooperating.

It doesn't show on the character screen. It does work though =} Many people refer to the character screen as the Lion character screen because more often than not it doesn't tell you the truth.

I think those calculations are wrong. First off all You have to consider for example 300dmg per 0.4 sec means 900dmg over 1.2 second. If it force to do all damage per 0.4 seconds it also force flat damage from charms in the same period of time. 150dmg per 10sec charm will do its damage over 0.4sec which is 450dmg per 1.2 seconds. Correct me if I am wrong, because for me if its how You describe, its just worthless and stacking poison damage charms has nearly zero benefit for venom sin.

Hopeful thinking but not how it works. You are looking at it as a nerf to the poison damage but it's just represents the same poison damage over a shorter duration. From the fandom wiki. diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Venom "Venom caps the poisoning duration at 0.4 seconds, thus preventing long term poisoning. Consequently, all other items will only inflict poison damage for 0.4 seconds. Example: Though 700 damage over 10 seconds might seem impressive, only 28 damage will be inflicted due to the 0.4 seconds cap." It's not nerfing the poison damage it's exactly the same amount of poison damage that would be done in .4 seconds.
