One thing I forgot to state which I'm very embarrassed is that your defense and your block chance remain while you are in the whirlwind effect.

Excellent video as always. Another thing you forgot to address is the relationship between faster walk and whirlwind. In fact, there's not a lot of information out there in that regard. Basically, you want to be quick but not too much. If you run too fast (like during frenzy) you will go through monsters too quickly and hit them less. BUT! if you are slow then there's this extremely annoying pause between whirlwinds which really messes up your rythm and dps, and also puts you in danger. I noticed it the first time I tried enigma on a barb. It felt so much better, and that was mainly because of the 45% frw in that armor. There's a sweet spot at around 100-110% frw, and reaching it should be one of your main priorities when building barbs. I usually get there with 75-ish% frw from gear combined with the increased speed mastery. Funny that you don't like the barb very much, since you look a bit like one.

late to the party, but would the slow effect of holy freeze aura work in whirlwind. If so you can stack up a decent aura here by running Doom on two axes.

Man what a difference it makes when you know how it works. Simply spinning on the edges of the monster pack made clearing so much more efficient. Things are actually dying now. Great video, thank you!

Lol yeah Because you don't actually die until the ww ends. Often times it was very dramatic as the barb would whirlwind off into the distance, then die as soon as it ends.

Regarding the confusion some players get because of the "Damage goes to mana" attribute: Perhaps they should have worded it differently, "goes to mana"->"replenishes mana".

I had the same confusion, because it literally says that “damage goes to mana”, not “damage replenishes mana”. Diablo II is the most confusing game for me when it comes down to item/skill description and how those interact with each other. I have easier time calculating an optimal Tetrahedron position of my satellites in KSP than how much damage I will do if I invest into my character skill in D2 😂

As a kid I used to enjoy BK's Sacred Charge with a Shael in it because the knockback served to cc them and also keep them in my whirlwind path.

Whirlwind used to start at -50 damage and it scaled to being positive. The fact it starts at 50* damage is really good now imo

Man I'm so glad you dropped this! Just built my ultra expensive memewhirler and I've been wanting your breakdown. Even if 2h is fd more than it had already been,I'm standing by it. Edeath glorious axe,with a metal grid beast golem buffed up w bloatmaxxxed Bo,only requires 45 ias to hit max frames-so with double upped deaths gloves and belt,the 40-15 in my gface is all I need-and that combo provides cbf which allows me to wear sick leech,ar,str,resist fcr rings for fairly smooth teleporting. Enigma kraken shell for pimp nasty style,gores, a might/perfpride merc,Tele into packs while holding a brand crossbow to Amp mobs,I've got 100%ds/cb. Full suite of warcry charms,bo sticks and x2 isted gull daggers that fit my cube perfectly for when I'm itemfinding. And a flickering flame on the merc for fire res for the golem. All that blood,sweat,and fg for a character that I only feel safe farming with in like act 1/p1 tzs for the fragile golems sake lol. I'm a solo battlenet type dude anyways haha. But I love him and love my obsessive minmaxing so I'd call it a success. And most importantly, he's got style for dayssss. D2 is my refuge in this harsh world,thanks for providing this content ggm.

Thanks for the video, I learned some stuff about WW. Just wanted to share that I simply wear full IK set and with appropriate stuffing into sockets it just does the job for me. I surely kill faster those Gorebellys and other similar mob than you did in this video presentation. This is what this set is made for and its main tool, that is The Stone Crusher, that fits it perfectly. And for physical immunes, I simply switch to berserker and then go back to whirlwind once I am done. It works magic for me and my barb on 88th lvl and I do not need to look elsewhere for any gizmos.. The key is to proper-stuff the helmet, the crusher and additional socket made by Larzuk in the Soul Cage... Also in the full set there is way more elemental resistance and + bonuses to skills, so the above mentioned sockets can be dedicated exactly to making the set more deadly.... I think this set is hugely underrated, or people just do not know how to use it, or they expect from it too much... Edit: also why you did not use Battle cry? It is there for a reason and one of the best things that barb have in his arsenal do decrease enemies' defenses and speed up the killing process.

Grief/Eternity looks so nice in theorie and will end up at the same WW IAS Breakpoint if made in PBs with a little + IAS from High Lords or LoH or whatever... But what If they would not be at the same Speed in the End?

Ya people think it does that because games like PoE have something called Mind over Mana (MoM) and it splits the damage taken between hp and mana so at 50% MoM if you took 1000 damage after res and other reductions 500 hits your health and 500 gets taken from your mana. The way it’s worded in d2r 20% damage taken to mana makes it seem that 20% of damage taken gets taken to mana. Hope that helps you with our confusion

Hello. Thanks for your video. I'd appreciate it you could answer these three questions: 1. Is a Whirlwind AND Leap Attack Barb viable for players who like to utilize more than one main skill? What kind of stat/skill point build would you recommend? 2. Are maces/flails/hammers viable for a Whirlwind and Leap Attack Barb? I just like maces in general. Which weapons or Runewords would you recommend for such a build? 3. Is a 1+ or 2+ in Mana and 3+ or 4+ in Vitality stat point investment formula unwise? I know Vitality is important in Diablo II, but you highlighted the Mana consumption problems of Whirlwind in the long run, so I just wondered. Sorry if this is mathematically ignorant, ha.

Dual wield is better for whirlwind these days with changes. Two Handed is best for Leap Attack as it's a one donk. Runewords, Oath, Doom, Famine If you go with two handed you could do a breath of the dying thunder maul. As a barbarian you have access to shouts so you don't "Need" to stack vitality for HP. However with shouts you should be at 3000 HP

This is because phase blades are -30 base items. So they are incredibly fast from the start. One of the many reasons people choose Grief. The fleshripper I chose for my double swing barb are very similar with -20 base

The old days whirlwind hit more times to a monster when you are frozen, coz you move thru it slower. Nowadays i think that doesn't work... Does it?

That Has definitely changed yes, because IAS never effected your attack speed before, slows wouldn't either but they would elongate the duration of the whirlwind allowing you to hit more per whirlwind. Now that IAS does affect the Attack Speed, so does things like Chill, and Slow cause you to attack slower. So that trick doesn't work anymore.

Classic is... Ki mnda broken in d2r because it includes synergies. Real classic D2 did not have synergies. There are tons of differences, mercs suck, minions don't continue through acts, no charms, no exceptional or elite uniques, no runewords ect

Whirlwind/Berserk barb is my favorite class. Can farm anywhere, no need for sunder charms or other nonsense. I go grief and shield, so almost impossible to die as well.

I feel like you forgot to point out that the IK set combined with Whirlwind is one of the easiest ways for a new player to clear Hell. Very easy to get and play. Almost every item of the set, apart from maybe the chest armor, can be gotten with extreme ease and the whole set leaves you with only your amulet and ring slots to fill, which can be anything you want because the set provides every stat needed.

Lol 😂 exaggerating of course, but it's a lot. I am not only referring to the cost increase, but also the way whirlwind spends mana in excess for short range bursts. So in a way it does increase exponentially. Because we have the raw mana cost going up, but also it increases and decreases depending on the duration of the whirlwind. As I demonstrate during the video short bursts plug high mana cost can burn all the mama in your pool in a matter of seconds.
