Some interesting trivia for Witchwild String: in an Interview with Diabloii-net, Brother Laz, the creator of Median XL - Diablo 2's most popular mod - called Witchwild String "one of the best designed uniques in D2 because it has a consistent theme without giving up usability and is good enough to spawn its own build" and gave it as an example of a well designed "Johnny Item". The term "Johnny", coined by the developers of Magic The Gathering, refers to a player type that does not play to win or to have the most efficient build, etc (that would be the "Spike" Player Type), but rather to set up interesting combos, to play builds that fulfill a certain fantasy (e.g. a Thundergod Barbarian), even if these builds are not the most efficient ones. Witchwild String having a consistent fantasy makes the item very appealing for Jonny Players. I can maybe post a link to the interview if anyone is interested, but it might be caught in the spam filter.

the bow is amazing, especially if you combine it with the G-face and Goblin toe since crushing blow + amp damage is just devastating. And since strafe attacks so fast the Amp damage will be up very often, especially on bosses when you actually need it.

I pretty much only play bowazons and concur with everything he said. I upgraded mine and put 2 shaels in it, perfect for leveling up your bowazon from late nightmare onward. Save your expensive 15/40 jewels for a 3-os helm for late game and use this until you get your windforce or faith. Wonderful bow. Buriza-->WWS-->Windforce.

I'd like to see a comparison video between this, buriza, goldstrike arch and eaglehorn. We all know faith or WF are BIS (perhaps Mist in some builds) but the others mentioned are great budget options that should be analyzed for viability on a hell river of flame and chaos run.

To go from a 50% Physical Resistance to a -50% resist once Amp procs is a 3x damage increase from what was before.

Yesterday i've found this bow and sure enough i upped it and put 2x shael inside, i dont think it could replace my eaglehorn when it comes to dmg output but i loved breaking physical immunes with it (i hate skipping immunes because of my OCD :D ). However the 2 percent proc is quite low so it takes time to proc but then i just switch to eaglehorn and continue. Im running physical bowazon small groups and single target strafe/guided arrow (or magic arrow from WWS for PI) and big groups multishot. I know choosing bowazon as first and main char is stupid for some people but i like her, its quite safe and relaxing build. The only con is that she doesnt have som much single target damage, anyway if i decide to go for boss killer i can always respec to javazon, but without infinity its a bit pain in the ass having to use lower resist wand to break some light immunes, but i remember even without infinity i could kill diablo with 6-7 charged strikes max

Enjoying your videos! I may be mistaken but amp damage has the effect of reducing the target's physical resistance (PR) by 100%. That means, if the monster has 0 PR, this will double your damage against this monster, as you said. If the monster has 50 PR (most of the hell monsters), their PR will become -50, which means you will deal TRIPLE damage against these monsters. To see this, say you deal 100 baseline, without amp you would deal 50 dmg, with amp you deal 150, 3 times the amount. If a monster has 95% PR, say after they got sundered, you will deal 21 TIMES the damage against them. Amp damage is this amazing.

10:38 Yes it is, one of the best strafe bows. I found this calculation on the internet, just to get an idea ho great this bow is. This bow is already fast and you only need 63ias for cap. If you can find a perfect 170%ed WWS or nearly perfect go ahead and up it! Use 20% Ias gloves like Lava Gout or Laying of hands and the runeword armor treachery with 45 ias = 65ias Atmas Scarab for more amp dmg procs. If you're rich use 15max dmg /40ed jewels. I mostly put in some selfound jewels like 13max dmg / 35ed, its okay too. U don't need the gore rider boots because of the DS on WWS. Use instead War Travelers for the + DMG. 2 x Ravenfrost, Vampire Gaze / Tal Rasha helmet You have no problems with PI's, u can clear Hell and its cheap. (btw. Souls in worldstone keep, 40 all res on the bow + fade proc + thundergods vigor) Have a nice day! 35-81 regular bow 89-108 upgraded bow 115-140 upgraded 2x 40ed jewel keep in mind that the total damage is INSANE when calculating also amp and 100% to duble damage. 228-278 damage for an upgraded with 2x 40 ed. Average dmg reduction in hell varies from 0 to 50dr the total damage in hell vs regular monsters will then become 342-556 (449 average) Compare it with windforce: 35 - 547 (average 291 raw damage) + which will then by multiplied by for example 80% crit/ds = 523.8 total, however still resised by dr(sorry, no amp xD) so we get a 449 average with NO IMMUNES and 40 res vs 523 average with the need of secondary attack type vs PI or troubles vs resistant monsters keep in mind i do not take dex into account. With more dex the wf will have more damage when compared to wws, but when taking into account all factors as crit/ds/amp etc the wws is a solid choice for pvm

I'm still rocking this don't have faith or windforce yet. I kill hell cows in about 2 mins or less. With the atmas it's a amp damage machine. I use multishot for cows and they just melt.

got one on hardcore single player and was thinking about using it for a druid summoner a1 merc to level up, throw some shaels in there seems like a cool item, fantastic idea using it for a swap would use it on my Sorc to amplify my a2 Merc for all the caster immune mobs never even thought about that

15:22 this ability is good most of the monsters are not magic resistant in fact just a few of them have magic resistant or inmunitie, that's why an item that can grant you magic damage is good and rare.

I use this on switch for my strafe amazon with 2 shaels. It takes care of physical immunes. When the amp dmg procs it melts monsters. If the proc was higher this bow would be incredibly good instead of just pretty good.

I tried to make it work in a late game because it has funky stats, but even upgraded, with crit and amp, the damage just not there. I am sure it's a nice level 40-75ish bow though. You also have to consider that having 100% crit is not as useful when you already can get 50% some for a stronger bow with a passive.

@@Dead-xk1lk amp damage also increases crushing blow damage. So i made a strafe-zon in old D2 using G-face + Goblin toe. When amp damage procs, you crush everything in 1p difficulty. It was a very good and cheap starter char that could farm a lot of places.

This seems like one of the better bows. Especially with how much physical resistance there is in hell, the 20% magic damage conversion makes this even stronger than it looks. I haven’t played Bow ever since guided arrow was nerfed ages ago. I plan to again when the new patch comes out. That really is not fair that almost every monster gets so much physical resistance, but almost no monsters have even 1% magic resistance. Come on, hammers are so OP, they can’t even give monsters 1% magic res? Nope, 0.

2% Chance to Cast Amp Dmg is an average of just once every 50 hits. To curse mobs consistently, I expect you'd need to use Strafe or MS. While an AOE elemental attack could also trigger it often, Amp Dmg won't help much with that. Then again, maybe you could swap roles and play the merc to your heavy hitter Act 2 mercenary. Mine murdered Hell Countess before I could even run into her room ;P

The magic arrow also comes in handy with physical immunes while you wait for the amp proc. 20% conversion of physical damage to magic damage usually takes care of them. And when the amp procs the physical damage can help out to increase the speed. I find the amp procs often enough, and usually always on the monsters that it is needed for.

In your damage calculation.... when monsters have 50% phys res and you amp them, they go down to -50 that means youre tripling your dmg output to them.

I like to use upped WWS and angelic combo on my smiter when Im not doing ubers. With one shael in it plus fanaticism lvl 20 and additional 15 ias u can reach max 9 frames. Another socket is for nef (knockback is a true lifesaver in a hell difficulty) Believe me or not even bosses dying really fast thanks to LoH, 100% crushing blow and some open wounds. Also u can deal with physical immunities (which are pain for smiter) with this bow. Maybe not the fastest way to kill monsters but definitely fun to play!

@@blech71 Just remember this build not bout efficiency. Any zealot with one point in smite for ubers will do better. In my case Im full smiter build and I like to play paladin with bow. You will also need razortail and fortitude armor for ED or duress as a cheaper option before try it out on hell.

I think bows and crossbows could have been significantly more interesting if they had introduced unique arrows/bolts. Something like Witchwild might be good with a really low stack(~20) of strong arrows due to the Magic Arrows not consuming ammo. Would have been significantly more interesting than just buffing bow and crossbow skills, since other classes might have more of a reason to take bows.

I use this with strafe and it melts anything esp with amp dmg. Strafe removes the issue with attack spd since it can shoot multiple arrows to a single target

Yes I melt cows with multishot. Works great use atmas scarab and amp goes off all the time. I freeze them proc amp then multishot insta melt.

@3:38 : Unique Bow which have default skill ; should work with other skills combined , would be super great and gives Unique Bow Items to be different that Runeword Bows . Example : Witchwild String Bow ( Fires Magic Arrow (lvl 20) ) then it should combine it with Strafe skill , All Strafe arrows should be Magic Arrow (lvl 20) . If using Multi shot then its shot be (Magic Arrow(lvl20) + Multishot (lvl) . This gives uniques a different style where Runeword Items doesnt have .

Depends on your build, kuko tends to be better for a fire bowzon. It also works very well with enchant. Witch wild string is better for a physical bowzon. And Wizendraw is by far the best for a ice Amazon. Due to the - cold resistance effect. As for Buriza, believe it or not it's best for a shapeshifter druid 🤣

@@GGMentor Thanks for the revise, 😃planning to change to physic when act3 nightmare. my druid weapon is using ripcracker, tombreaver and buriza, always change to play, will have more fun with it. So excited and hoping next patch can be easier to use summon druid for hell :) Have enough for my summon druid along these years. Even I love druid so much.

Are you saying sources of double damage cannot stack? So any critical strike skill points are abrogated if you already have 100 percent chance of double damage from another source.

Critical strike and Deadly strike do stack but you can only ever get x2 If for instance you already have 100% Deadly Strike building Critical strike is meaningless because DS will always double the damage. The damage can't be Quadrupled. As long as one succeeds your fine.

Yes which you don't need to waste points on if you use this bow and can spend them elsewhere. This is by no means an end game bis bow, but it is however a very good intermediary bow while leveling.

That bow is trash, u can just run a atmas ammy + max critical strike for the same effect but have a bow that actually does dmg like WF or Faith (added fanta)

Can't wear any of that gear at lvl 39 when you can use this bow. Atmas ammy, wind force, and faith bow are way higher lvl and exceedingly more rare. You are basically trying to compare a Dol rune to several Jah runes.
