Combined tensile strength for 4 grade 8 1-1/4 bolts is well over 200,000 lbs so you should be fine hanging the dozer vertically from the blade I mean fatigue from cyclic loading is a thing but the relatively minor loading you’d be putting on the bolts from back dragging should hardly be an issue unless you were getting seriously hung up on something. There’s always a “right” way in theory for what’s ideal but there is also an appropriate way for what’s practical the machines were made and purchased to get the work done. There is no point coddling the machine at the expense of the work, abusing a machine is different from using it outside its ideal conditions plus I guarantee you that the cost of running your machines around trying to complete your job’s sub-optimally in order to avoid backloading the blade is going to be greater than the cost or repair when that does eventually brake those bolts
@rossgray307010 ай бұрын
Been operating dozers for over 50 yrs and still doing it full-time, done heaps of back blading when the job requires it, seen dozers pulled out of bogs by their blades with excavators, dozers with winches and other dozers pushing on the sides of the blade and never seen trunnion bolts break yet. As U say the combined tensile strength of grade 8 bolts says it all, U could hang the dozer off the ground by its blade and be safe. Its all a myth.

Ya they generally put them on dozers that had winches on the back, I've even seen them on drawbar and bareback machines but mostly on winches machines.

D7Eand F was my favorite Dozer, then a D6 76A next. Those Hyd. lines burned a lot of equipment. That old Dozer isn't hurt. You know what it needs. Couple Batteries, remove Alt. belts, couple jumper wires and fire it up to see what you have, It doesn't appear to have got that hot. mostly smoke damage. I watched Franks box blade repair. Nice Guy Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Tom

Supposedly the tracks wear more in reverse so over 50% of track wear is for doing nothing….? I can believe the tracks wearing more in reverse as in the 90’s a local company used a D7 to push the scraper boxes on big jobs and it wore a set of tracks out every year. They had a spare set in the yard to keep swapping them. Happy thanksgiving! 🙂👍
@Jpaydirt10 ай бұрын
speed is the biggest killer
@rossgray307010 ай бұрын
There is some good videos on how track wear takes place here on U tube, its because in rev the bush rotates a 1/3 of a turn against the tooth while under load as it goes over the top of the sprocket, + the pins rotate 3 times under load inside the bushes as the machine reverses, thats why. Put the tracks on backwards and the bush rotates 1/3 of a turn against the tooth when going forward plus the grousers don't self clean as good so U get less traction if the grousers are wrong way round. Some companies block out 3 gear on their machines to help minimise wear and tear.
@ianwallett743810 ай бұрын
@@rossgray3070 blocking out 3rd gear sounds a good idea. Might do it to mine to help preserve the expensive Berco tracks. 👍
