I think it's about balancing two cultures. It's clever and it's funny. I think this is the best comedy ever written and brilliantly performed. Goodness Gracious Me made me realise how many incredible parallels there are between Indian's and Irish (and probably all immigrants). My parents believed everything virtuous in this world was Irish (and they bestowed on me a passionate pride in Ireland). I think Fr Ted is one of the best comedies written as well. Fortunately my Mother had passed on before any of the catholic church scandal hit the world - she would have been so hurt and distraught! So obviously she'd passed on before Fr Ted hit our screens too so I can't answer the 2nd part of your question. I remember hearing the cast of GGM saying their mantra was "don't explain, don't apologise and be VERY FUNNY". I think Fr Ted's writers had the same mantra!

i remember tis father and son segment !! There was also another part where the son would try to talk to his dad about christianity and tell him the names of the angels.. and its hella funny when the dad translate those names into indian names.. like michael >> muthu
