You are without doubt a very competent pilot. My flying days are over but I’ve watched your skills grow through your videos & you bring my training days back to life. I love the technology in todays aircraft & wish I had the chance to use it in my day. I hope the situation with pilots/airlines due to this virus don’t impact you too much because you have a very promising future. Good luck Ben & thanks for the videos. Mike.

Ben, great coverage of the types of skills you need to become a budding pilot. Perhaps you might want to recap on why you wanted to become an airline pilot, you current status and the journey it took you, including flight-school, costs, hours etc. Also can you do some explaining on VFR, IFR, ILS, NDB, VOR. DME and ADF, beacons and the like and explain to your audience the role of good planning, alternates, WX (Weather charts) and the like? Maybe some coverage comparing and contrasting the old-style methods of navigation, with the new augmented AGPS.? I see the Cirrus you have been flying has the newer form of navigation and that you can register your flight plan via the iPad (?) and then upload and activate that whilst in the aircraft.? Also, I think I saw the flight plan then being transferred to the aircraft via presumably either Bluetooth or WiFi. Will you you be able to demonstrate a auto-landing using the new Garmin system and explain the role of the flightpath bars in the middle of the screen and how you fly using those augmented lanes . Once our twice I've been on EasyJet flights into Belfast on business when the captain announced they planned to use auto-landing. I assume this is best practice, that they tell the passengers the plane is doing the landing. Again, a big thankyou for al the good work you are doing in sharing your flying knowledge. One last question: does any of the home-based flying count in hours towards currency/simulator work? Is this something the CAA are looking to accept; given that all the data can be shared with a CFI.

Plane Old Ben BTW do you ever look out much of the cockpit? I see a lot of work going on in the cockpit what with the flight load. I bet as these cockpits gets more efficient you can look out more and enjoy the views. I used to fly light aircraft and ultralights. The ultralights needed less work to fly them but more visual lookout or talking to ATIS

Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the feedback. It’s very easy to notice points like that when sat watching a video isn’t it - which is why I filmed these to debrief them in the first place. If those are the only things you picked up on in the video then I don’t think I did a bad job, albeit they’re very picky. Having flown for an airline and now watched and debriefed this back the real points for me were the ‘big picture’ bits in regards to how air traffic kept us high and we had to work hard to descend for the approach. There’s always going to be small mistakes on every flight which is why I find being able to debrief them hugely valuable and I’m able to learn from points and keep improving. Good luck finishing off your training.

Most videos I have seen it deviates opposite side you’re banking, which is biggest sham engineers gave us. One of the biggest human-error-prone mistake that’s too big too get rid of. @douglasb5046
@douglasb5046 4 жыл бұрын
What’s V1 on the DA42 haha. You’re a super pilot Ben and will have no trouble finding an alternative to Flybe. On a different note I never understand why most pilots programme the avionics/listen to ATIS AFTER starting engines-waste of money, fuel not to mention bad for environment. Otherwise very nice video and fab avionics. PhD Commercial SMEL/IFR and Citation 5xx type rated.
@PlaneOldBen
@PlaneOldBen 4 жыл бұрын
There’s no ground power available to use to programme the avionics, you also can’t start the engines with the avionics on so I’m not sure what data you’d lose after programming them. The DA42 burns a small amount of Jet A1 and it only took me two minutes to program the route. Hope you’re enjoying your flying 🤙🏼
@douglasb5046
@douglasb5046 4 жыл бұрын
Plane Old Ben good point about the sipping rate of the Da42. As to what info is saved whilst I have no experience with the G1000, I can say that the Garmin 430 through the Garmin 750 and the xponders have allowed me over 23 years of flying (C172/Bonanza/Barons/Arrows/Seminole and a Saratoga) to save the flight plan with units defaulting to the preset frequencies and squawk code. My feeling/cynicism is completing the aforementioned tasks AFTER engine start is a holdover from training days where it is in the financial interest of the CFI to run up the Hobbs time towards separating student from his/her money.
