North to south over the Alps at FL 160 on a beautiful day. Nonetheless, IFR to a vectored arrival and then ILS for 04R at Marco Polo International.

My dad was part of the USAAF's urban renewal efforts at Dresden on February 13 -15,1945. Happy to see it is more beautiful and peaceful now.

Good video as always. Could you name some details during flight like airspeed, groundspeed, vertical speed, heading, altitude, fuel flow, manifold pressure, etc., please?

I don't want do be a backseat pilot, but at rotation speed all that is intended is rotation. The initial climb should come a little after and be slight, transitioning into a normal climb. It's a critical point of flight, and trying to rip the plane off the ground brings you close to a stall. You want that buffer when you leave ground effect.

I am completely sympathetic to your point. The reality is not always so clean as the theory, though. On this day, there was a 70-degree cross wind 15 gusting 25, so leisurely hovering just above the ground after rotation seemed the more risky choice. There is an excess of energy ar Vr in this plane, which allows one to take a quick jump up into ground effect, then level out to gain speed for the climb.

interesting. What would you do if you lost an engine over the alps in terms of your drift down?
@jaunty17
@jaunty17 9 жыл бұрын
+Anthony Bo The DA42-VI has the same service ceiling OEI as with both engines, 18,000 ft. So, just secure the dead engine, trim the rudder, and fly to the nearest appropriate runway. No drift down.

+jaunty17 thats right! i forgot you fly the dash six, all my time is in the NG and the 2.0/1.7l engines. By the way have you flown the da62? just flew it last week and it was marvelous, just a dream to fly!

+Anthony Bo No, Anthony, I haven't flown the 62. Looked at the numbers, though. Seems like it's for the US market, primarily. Doesn't offer that much more than the 42 in MTOW, cruise speed, equipment... Still not pressurized and still the same engines (chipped up about 12 hp). Don't get me wrong; I love the airplanes and I'm sure the 62 would be great. Just not the upgrade I would want to see from the 42. Get me a pressurized cabin with room for six adults (2+4) and two 300hp Austro engines and then I'll get excited.
