Another good one Matt and Molly. It’s very nice that you are really trying to do what the locals do, like taking public transport which is so good because you get to experience the real deal in the Philippines. Waiting for more vlogs 👍❤️

The university is named after Dr. Horace Brinsmade Silliman, a retired businessman and philanthropist from Cohoes, New York who gave the initial sum of $10,000 to start the school. Starting as an elementary school for boys, the school expanded to become a college in 1910, acquiring university status in 1938.

It was founded in 1905 through a grant given by the famous American philanthropist John D. Rockefeller under the auspices of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society. It is the first Baptist and second American university (after Silliman University) in the country and in Asia. Its university hospital - Iloilo Mission Hospital which was founded in 1901 is the first American and Protestant hospital in the Philippines.

That hospital was built in the 70s and a new wing added just a few years back. The old Silliman hospital called mission hospital is now called Katipunan Hall now houses the English and Literature Department. The main campus is at the back. Im sure by now youve explored the campus already. I hope you can do a tour and feature it in your vlog.

You should try the "Manipis" road. I am not sure if it still exist. It's a road that cuts thru the mountains from Talisay to Toledo City or west coast instead of going south or north. Try learning Sud-Sud or Maninghas clam harvesting. They have a popular barangay dance fest called ""Bayle""". You pay as you dance.

The Siliman university was build after the US won the war with Spain. Spain sold the Philippines to US. So at that time 1901 a protestant bussiman n a missionary thought in introducing english education to Filipinos (from spanish language). The first group of pupils were 11 male Filipinos (who accepted to be educated in another language) with 1 american missionary teacher. As many years passes the school expanded and Filipino young teachers were hired. The Siliman university is the first American school in the Philippines during American regime.

Other places to see is the Red Rock falls with a hot spring closeby. And the best snorkling spot in the Philippines I"ve been is in Dauin Marine sanctuary, its a bus ride away and have to walk it from the market or ride a tricyle going to Romana Alar Beach. Where you can rent snorkling gear. Have fun in Dumaguete.
