"My Brother's Keeper" by Marty Smith documents the longtime friendship between former Alabama Crimson Tide teammates Kevin Turner and now Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney. ALS took Turner's life in 2016, but his legacy still lives on through his son, Nolan, who earned a scholarship to play under his "father figure" at Clemson.

Dam. I knew football could cause concussions, other head trauma, and spinal injuries. But it can possibly eventually cause ALS? With every football can take from you, you really need to love it to play it for a long time.

Liquid food. ALS eventually causes loss of almost all movement. That includes chewing and I'd assume even peristaltic contractions of esophagus which help move solid food down throat.

If concussions caused the condition then he had an ALS like condition that isn't actually als itself according to the writers of the study that found the link between the two. Either way, motor neuron diseases are some of the scariest things out there.
