This song reminds me of my first fortress. Necromancers had taken over much of the continent and constantly raided me. I barely fought off a brutal multi-year siege only to see an army of goblins mass outside my shattered walls. They arrayed themselves outside my fortress, countless creatures, armed and armored. I certainly wouldnt be able to stand against them. But then instead of attacking, their general came forward. He was old and scarred, and held an adamantine sword that had been captured in some ancient battle. He had only one request: he wanted a ring. It turned out one of the necromancer's abominations that I had just slain was actually the goblin's son. Somewhere in the mounds of rotting dead was an important family heirloom. My duke gave him the ring, and the Goblin general thanked us . His legion marched away, never to be seen again.

The real genius of this track is the start, the first few notes make it feel like a wild west standoff, and once the strings kick in it's an unsettling chord on purpose to give it an unsettling sense to make you react to it, it plucks at the fight or flight part of your brain. Then it kicks into the war drums in this steady cadence through most of the track, and then you have the dueling guitars towards the end of the track which is to represent both armies. Really good stuff man I can't get enough of this track. My son always comes running to watch because he knows exactly what this music means.

Man, this track was on when I had my first ever goblin invasion. Here's a story: everything was well and chill in my fort. But I made a big mistake, no one was trained. So when the goblins came 14 of my dwarfs were brutally killed their body parts on the ground. But 1 remaining dwarf, unaware of everything was chilling and mining a corridor. When the goblins found him he began running back and forth the long corridor, terrified of the realization of his fate. Moments later he too was murdered and the fortress would fall to ruin...

When I finally got my first goblin siege, it was the kind of thing that I feared from the beginning. I had plenty of lockable doors and safe zones for citizens and two squads of servicedwarves who were either militia or security, depending on the leader. I had about 12 ready to fight dwarves but not a lot of weapons to go around. I had neglected to forge proper equipment for my dwarves, buying piecemeal parts here and there to make up for it. That was why I feared an attack, even with the respectable numbers and training. After planning and issuing my orders out, I finally ordered my dwarves to attack the marauding goblins and when 3:17 dropped, one of my hammerdwarves dashed into the fray, went into a martial stance, and began to hack away at them. In the end, we had no lives lost, though 1 seriously wounded dwarf who will probably spend a long time in our medical ward. We dug a potter's field for the war dead, away from our village, and threw the bodies inside.

The hunter trudged wearily up the rise, trailing her wounded quarry. The kangaroo had taken four bolts already and it was not difficult to track. As she crested the ridge though, it was not a helpless buck she found beyond but a vile force of darkness. Goblins, four abreast in marching order. Taking a moment to steady herself against a cherry tree, she reached into her quiver and retrieved a special bolt. Two strikes on the flint and the oil-soaked rag was burning steadily. She shouldered the bronze crossbow, raised it to the heavens, and pulled the trigger. The mechanism bucked and the flaming bolt arced away, a filament of black smoke following after a glaring point of light. Not a moment later a peal of bells rang out across the valley and the huge stone bridges rumbled to life, sealing the fortress of Skybreaches from the world.

The first time a goblin army marched against my fort, my dwarfs weren't properly trained. I had fortified the outsides of the burrow, but didn't have a proper militia. What I did have though was a good stockpile of armor and weapons, and a bunch of dwarfs that wouldn't go down without a fight. I didn't order them to attack, but the madlads and madgals took up arms, geared up and actually left the fort to face the goblins face on. To this day, the fort stands proudly, with those brave dwarfs being its protectors.
