Of all the soundtracks for this dlcs, and even including the base game, I think it's my favorite for the feeling it carries. It make you realize the situation is indeed almost completely hopeless. You're killing ennemies again and again just for more to show up, and even if you manage to clear a full wave, it doesn't mean you're victorious: You just get to fight another day against the goons of a cosmic abomination for whom humanity is just a pest, and your elite mercenaries are barely a speck of dust in its huge eye, enough to stall it for maybe a moment, but what is a moment in that universe when the laws of time and physics are more a suggestion than the basis of the world they should be? And yet you fight, you keep pushing forward with the futile hope that you will reach the end of this madness and eliminate those aberrations that should not exist by all logic once and for all. And finally, by the end, when you pushed deep enough, the horrible truth hit you: You're not defending the human world against those anomalies. You and your men are the anomaly in this cosmic aberration.

The colors, how they dance. How they sing! A dirge of infinite possibilities! But not for us! No, it was never meant for our kind! This is for *them.* For *them* it is a promise of new experiences and life! A chance to run wild and free across the boundless fabric of existence! But for us? It is naught but the curtain call for our way of life. A keening, falsetto chorus of insanity! There is nothing for us in those blighted stars... ONLY RUIN. WE ARE DOOMED, WE ARE ALL DOOMED.

The stars bestow many things upon this earth. Light. Beauty. The promise of dawn. But here? In this jagged realm seeping through the cracks in the walls separating comfortable mundanity from what ought to remain as naught but a lunatic's feverish delusions? Their sickly emerald refractions bring nothing but despair. Half-shattered monstrosities, alien enough to be unsettling while retaining enough of what they once were to be tragic. And the only promise they bring is of a bloodstained night without end, filled with the tortured shrieks of the damned and the broken cackling of madmen.

@deathpyre426 жыл бұрын
Actually, that kind of explains the choice of adventurers for the art. The Antiquarian's eye for baubles is valuable against enemies of a crystalline disposition. The Occultist has already communed with and discovered things from the Abyss, so who else is better to research this new threat. And who better to smash things than the Bounty Hunter (well, perhaps the Man at Arms?) . Also, can you really make that madman any crazier? Plus, the guy has stress relief to keep everyone sane.

I think this is my favourite OST from Darkest Dungeon. This song has such a... severity. Powerful, yet almost melancholic. It also has this subtle, otherworldly quality - I especially appreciate that it is subtle and not the whole focus of the song. Incidentally, the song is perfect to work on an arduous task.

“When the comet crashed on our world, it brought with it a new tide of horrors each radiating with the sickly colors of madness from the farthest reaches of the cosmos. It’s newfound servants till at our soil and souls, corrupting it with its influence and seeding its malicious intent. Those who were unfortunate enough to be turned had their forms twisted to a horrible parody similar to that of the agent from beyond. From the very sawmill where the fabric of reality is torn at the seams, pours out every vile creature from every nightmarish kin aided by the unholy might of their masters, to face those who dare set foot upon the sleepers ever expanding territory. It seems almost if the abomination from the void is unstoppable, unmatched by any mortal being. But they are no different. They will fall before you like those who had faced you previously. They will perish whether it be from a tip of a sharpened blade, the end of a blunderbuss, the corrosiveness of acidic concoctions, the eldritch incantations of dark deities, whatever weaponry you shall come to bear. Whatever the means may be, you shall extinguish this infestation from the stars.”

i really love how this piece is composed Stuart, to me the main theme is not stress or despair but melancholy and sadness, which in itself is beautiful, but opposed to the military type percussion played it gives it an hopeful feeling of battle. It's like the Miller said "look at all my life, swept away by man time and even space, all things must come to an end" with the strings And we and our heroes put our foot in the sand with the percussion to say "true, we'll all be dust one day, but NOT today" It's honestly so fitting for its title and beautifully expressive to me :)

Amazing soundtrack, you did such a great job with this. I don't know if you knew all about the DLCs story and that made you create such emotionally accurate pieces of music that describe the story perfectly, or maybe they just told you something very plain like "hey it's about time and space being convoluted and teriffying". In any case, you hit the spot 100% on this one. Also I've just realised I've been listening to your music since I was a kid, because I played both prince of persia sands of time and warrior within, the soundtrack in there was outstanding too! thank you for creating masterpieces such as this one

Stuart Chatwood, i think you're not a human, a man can't make a soundtrack like this

Just got back into playing Darkest Dungeon again. God, I forgot how much I love the soundtrack.

5 tracks for one DLC, each one a masterpiece. You've absolutely spoiled us this time!

Simply brilliant. I thought Town in Chaos was the peak of Darkest Dungeon music, but this is the best so far. I love the dramatic/desperate motive and sad-ish choir. And percussion, my goodness. You truly are the master of all things drumming. Absoultely fantastic.

I confused myself as well. I’m not sure which is my favorite anymore either.

Speaking of favorite songs, I want to thank you and Tea Party for Ocean at the End. It keeps me going for almost a year now.

This is exactly the kind of music I would imagine playing if I fought a bunch of crystal things while time and space are being distorted. Perfect job as always Stuart!

I never got a chance to interpret the music during the harvest bc im so focused on the gameplay but this song is so tragic. Just like the name.

So intense yet melancholic, and somewhat relaxing in the core, it's quite amazing really!

Is this how an eargasm feels like? Jesus i don´t even think they pay you enough for all the masterpieces in one game, is even harder now to pick a favorite.

I accepted the idea that all things must end very early on in my first darkest dungeon experience... but I still find myself wishing that it just wasn't true sometimes, like when I played this song for the first time. You nailed it again Chatwood.

Absolutely fantastic as per usual. Keep up the great work man. I honestly do not know how well the game would do if the audio wasn't as stunning as the gameplay

This has to easily be my favorite track in the entire game. It stands apart so much from everything else just how the farmstead stands apart from the rest of the game. Truly amazing work Mr. Chatwood.

And he comes up with a unique, gripping soundtrack yet again. The choir bits really got me. Darkest Dungeon's DLC releases are always the best.... Because of the new music.
