wouldn't it be easier to replace the struts on the cap, rather than building braces, and PVC pieces to hold up the cap window? Seems a new set of struts would be way easier than cobbling something together

Hello iamgriff 🙂 They were brand new struts. I put the brace inserts just for safety because wind or weather can effect them and if my window slammed down and broke, it is impossible to find a replacement. Also if I added weight with a screen, tarp or dac tent. In the past I have had an engine hood crash down on me. Maybe I'm just a little bit over cautious 🤔😃 ☮❤🕉

@@MacgyverSharon it still sounds like A lot of work....You could get 2 cheap pair of vice grips, and clamp them onto the struts. But hey, it's your life, and truck. I'm just offering constructive criticism.

I have a 8' bed F250, with the same truck cap, and DAC Tent. I had a couple of 6" vice grips laying around. I clamped them to the struts on my cap. Problem solved. However, my Leer Cap's window has sharp corners on the glass. I was real concerned with the tent ripping there. I shoved shop towels under the corner before pulling things tight with the bungee cords. Also, with the caps at the tailgate, I took the same shop towels, and rolled them up longways. 5-6 of them fill that gap nicely, and are held with .99 cent spring clamps from the Home depot. I use my tent almost every weekend in the summer here in Michigan, it's 2.5 years old now, and holding up well.

I love how you use whatever you have. And now you have me looking into DAC tents

Did you have any leaks from the water running under the tent off the camper shell??

Hello Wayne 👋 Luckily I did not. I put it far up as possible on the roof, then I lowered the back window holding both sides at a height with my hiking poles ☮❤🕉
nice. It's not hard to find a used tent, great idea.

I did something similar with a mosquito tent during the summer, when I was at a state park. Great air flow!

Good way to extend your space. How did your window seal replacement work out? You seem to currently live in the right environment for rain leak testing.

Hello David J 😁 The window leak is gone...but I haven't been able to test it while driving....dang lockdown still...heavy sigh....
