If you do the maths you could buy the higher trim level Sandero, and then employ someone at £30,000 per year salary to just sit in the back and provide massages, hand you beverages, provide additional navigation help, select songs on spotify etc. You could do that for almost 7 years.

Excellent and very enjoyable review! So I bought Dacia Sandero Stepway Comfort for my grandpa as a gift, because his old car just died one day and I didn't want him to bother with second hand cars anymore. Honestly, I chosen this car not because of the price of the car itself, but because how adequate it is. You get what you need - great fuel economy, low taxes, reliability, cheap parts, this is a breeze to maintain. Also the Stepway version is super nice to drive in the country side where roads are quite bumpy because of its higher clearence. Does it have many extras? Thankfully not! The excessive amount of technologies in modern cars started to get in my way, not to mention how intimidating they could be for an old man who just want to travel from A to B for little money. The car has everything needed though. Superb climate control, all electric windows and mirrors, adjustable steering wheel, and some nice interior and exterior design. For me the design is not only good for its class but even outside of it. Great car, Dacia!

I would like to add 'my 2 cents'. My son brought a Sandero from new in 2017 (obviously a previous model to the one tested by Rory). This had a 75 ps 3 cyl 0.9L petrol engine, with 5 speed manual transmission. When I had a chance to drive and travel in his car, I was impressed. It was roomy, the engine performance was good enough. Also it was a lot of car for the money. When he purchased the car from the Renault showroom, it seemed that a similar sized Renault (Cleo I think) was 30-40% more expensive. From what my son said, it was relatively economical and has proved reliable, it has never let him down. When I needed a car, I didn't want to 'break the bank', so I looked at the Stepway (which is a Sandero body on a slightly taller suspension, with some roof bars and extra outside trim). The model I went for had the 90ps version of the same size engine my son had, with the same 5 speed transmission. It also had parking sensors and speed limit/cruise control as well as inbuilt Sat navigation. All this for approx. £10500 (in 2019). How has it performed in the 3 years I have had the vehicle? It has been excellent. Firstly, reliability has been bombproof. It never let me down. It's a comfortable car to go shopping in and go on longer trips. It's economy has been excellent. Running around town I get high 30's or low 40's (miles per imperial gallon) . For longer trips (on the Motorway/A roads) I try to tease 50 mpg for the whole trip. Though it has to be said, when we switched from E5 (97+ octane) to E10 (95 octane) petrol in the UK, I noticed a slight degradation in economy (I haven't noticed a performance difference). I am not saying the car is perfect, but no car is. Here are some of my (somewhat minor) niggles. The boot lip is quite high, getting heavy objects into the boot can be bit of a struggle. As a consequence, the painted boot lip has got 'bashed around' a bit, with the paint scuffed. Sometimes, in bright sunshine I can't easily see the instruments, so I have to turn the sidelights on to see the speedometer. There are other things I could mention, but they are pretty minor. As an aside, my son discovered something odd about his (I found the same for my car). One day he stopped in the supermarket to do some some shopping. As he stopped, he could hear liquid slopping around. He investigated, with his door open. He found the drain plugs on the underside of the door. Once he took the plugs out, about a litre of water came streaming out. It turns out that when it rains on the side windows, some of that rain gets passed the seals and seeps into the doors. I checked this with my car and sure enough quite a lot of water came out. I now routinely check after rain if there is any fluid in the doors. Would I buy one again? Absolutely, without a moments hesitation. However, I am awaiting to see how the current energy inflation is 'panning out', in terms how much fuel will cost and what the UK governments attitude is to fossil fueled vehicles (there current plan is to 'phase out' fossil fueled vehicles by 2030. However, this strategy was set before the Ukraine crisis and our vulnerability to energy price shocks was exposed.

Rory's car reviews never get boring! He gets down to the most important details you get in a car. I tend to see other car journalists which would be "ashamed" to be reviewing something like the Sandero but Rory makes you feel like a winner if you buy one. Which practically speaking, you'd always be a winner buying a turbo-charged 3 cylinder Dacia than one of these rubbish single-clutch Kia Picanto and Hyundai i10 they sell nowadays. Even on long travels the Sandero is argueably fine, it gets you from one point to another and saves you money on vacations for example for the long run.

Dacia make absolutely decent cars at amazing prices. To me a car is a tool and that's why I bought a Sandero about 8 months back as it was half the price of similar cars I was looking at. Already, I've decided my next car will be a Dacia also. Paying more just doesn't make any sense to me. If you have a lot of money and want the very best on the market it might not be the car for you but for most people they are great.
@oakeru69913 жыл бұрын
As James May sayed in the past: Dacia is the most honest European car manufacturer! Compared to other brands, you get more than what you pay, meaning you get more car, with less money! My first car was a Dacia Logan MCV, for which I paid at that time less than 10,000 euros. Before you say it's an unsafe car, I'll tell you something: it saved my life! After, through my own fault, I hit 4 trees at 120 km / h and stopped in the fifth. Obviously, after that it was just a wreck, but the way it behaved on impact earned me respect ... I'm alive and I'll tell you what I'm telling you today because the engineers, even if they didn't fill it with electronic safety systems, they filled it with reinforcements! Therefore, I always recommend Dacia!
