That should be copied all over the industry (but they wont...:((( )

very strange mistake that he did not acknowledge the wireless AA+CP. this is great feature for such a budget car to have. I left a comment on the UK What Car video as the Stepway has won car of the year by them here in UK. I have owned a Stepway for about 3 years with a Diesel Engine. It has done over 60,000 miles has been faultless and I would say one of the best cars I have owned in 35 years of driving, doing regular runs from Suffolk to Western Ireland up to Covid 19 3 times per year. I was going to replace my Kia crossover with another one, but these are well over £25,000 and honestly no better and the build quality is no better than the Dacia, if a little more glitzy. I had owned a Dacia Denem about 30 years ago and the least said the better. My Stepway costs about £200 a year to insure, is road tax exempt and other than needing a cam belt in 10,000 miles is about £120 for an interim service.

In response to repeating comments: I failed to spot the removable phone holder in the base spec. My mistake. This does not change my opinion about the quality and placement of the holder in Media Display/Media Nav versions. Also the placement of the main USB port makes sense only in the base spec (IMO). As for wireless ACP and AA, I don't have an iPhone, so I only rely on my friends' experience that with the battery drain it generates it's best to use a cable anyway. As for wireless AA, it's available on a handful of phones, so I haven't experienced it first hand. Also in the press release it says "wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto" rather than "wireless Apple Carplay AND WIRELESS Android Auto", and in my experience that's a huge difference. I'm not saying it's not there, I just had no way to verify this during filming.

Good news is some brands are going back to petrol and diesel engines, because they saw slow sales after their initial EV offensive. Just yesterday I found out for example Citroen is offering the Traveller with a 2L diesel again (at least here in Poland, where they tried to sell EV only versions for a couple of years with no success). I imagine Renault will come to its senses too, as their hybrids are inferior to Toyota and even Hyundai.

Hmm, rather a weird review - going for the laughs, I suspect. Also factually incorrect at around 8.10 "If you don't get the screen, you have to get your own phone holder". Lower specs without the screen get a nifty built-in phone holder on the dash that clamps and holds the phone and runs a Dacia app that talks to the car and mimics some of the functions of the higher spec screened model. Overall the review seems to be slightly at odds with other European reviews I have seen (and certainly none I have seen are saying it's comparable to a 20 year old rival car), not least the verdict of What Car 'car of the year' jury. But I guess they weren't going for the laughs and sarcasm?

In the Stepway there's 4 cm higher ground clearance, so it's higher in terms of getting in the car. However inside the seat vs. floor position is normal. Also, as the doors don't cover the sills, you have to stretch your leg further away from the car, which is not ideal for older people. If you really want a car for your grandparents, look at something like a Golf SV (old Golf plus), Ford C-Max, etc. Chair-like sitting position, and not much distance from the ground.

i you need a bigger car this is for sure better than a clio or a yaris but with more options it gets into i20, i30 and elantra teritory and for example the elantra at 16000 and i30 at least in romania get hybrid system and DCT. also their 0-100 is around 8.2 seconds... so its hard to recomand this on higher trims since you better wait few more months and get a hyundai which has even more space, options and almost twice the performance

Seriously Marek, I was gonna ask you to review this car :) But with the CVT transmision! What consumption you got? I do like it, it is VFM indeed. Cars get very expensive with every new generation. I do believe with this car you get all the necessary goodies with reasonable price! I do consider to buy this car. Of course I have to see it live first and see the prices as we dont have it here yet!

That is for the Stepway which is a faux SUV, as opposed to the Sandero which is 2000 euro cheaper in Spain and a closer comparison to a Clio, so he didn't give a fair comparison.

@@gabrielgherasim7902 This is what winds me up with many reviewers, they compare the Stepway to the Clio, compare the normal Sandero to the Clio and the Stepway to the Captur, much fairer comparison.

The 1.0 turbo mated to a CVT is even slower than the manual (same powertrain as found in the Nissan Micra). Dacia should have used the 1.33 turbo unit which is great or a 1.6L of the US spec Nissan Versa.
@MarekDrives3 жыл бұрын
That would make it more expensive and/or desirable, which would put Nissan and Renault at a disadvantage.

You will still get another phone holder if you don't buy that screen. And the usb is there to connect your phone to the cars infotainment system since android auto should be able to connect wireless. I find these features useful on rental cars
@MarekDrives3 жыл бұрын
Don't know about wireless ACP/AA. I'm old school, and still need a cable. Also wireless AA is available on a handful of phones. As for the base spec phone holder, I just found in the specification (let's not get into details how I missed it), but never saw it on any of the photos. My mistake.

Without the screen you get an integrated phone holder and can use a clever app to interface to the car with similar functionality - he had a higher spec car and hadn't checked the brochure for lower spec model details.

Rubbish review!! Marek did not present the exterior of the car the interior properly or the boot, or even mention the engines... If this would be the only review online I would be very confused.. Ps Marek,is KZbin not paying enough to buy new gloves..??
@MarekDrives3 жыл бұрын
These mittens allow to expose fingers and thumb to operate a camera. As for exterior/interior - would you like me to talk about the dynamic creases signifying the emotion that Dacia evokes in people, who being frugal without sacrificing style? Unless you are blind, you can probably see what the car looks like. That's why it's called "video".
@andreipuscalarga99963 жыл бұрын
Dear Marek, This types of review are normally watched by potential customers how are interested in the car and by car enthusiasts like me and we what to know things like interior and boot space, ergonomics( I know u covered them), what is changed vs the old model etc.... I know u do not like Dacia is it maybe out of spite that Poland does not have a national brand anymore after FSO was closed down???
@MarekDrives3 жыл бұрын
As far as I'm concerned Polish national brands were crap, and wouldn't survive on their own. Just like Skoda wouldn't have survived without VW, and Dacia without Renault. How would you like me to cover the interior and the boot? You can see what it looks like, I talk about basic ergonomics, I use cutaway shots of the important bits. I don't do long talking videos, because most of my viewers don't like long videos.

15K euros buys you a Polo Comfortline 1.0 5G (80hp) here in Czech Republic. Its a basic engine, and does not have fancy wheels, or automatic aircon. On the other hand its the category leader and will hold its value (and price) very well. Dacia Sandero is a good buy too, but not for 15K, and definitely not with the tiny french turbo engine. Good thing that they offer LPG version though, all manufacturers should do it. Excellent review, cheers.
